More specifically, methods and apparatuses for cleaning stationary gas turbines and on-wing turbofan engines found on aircraft are disclosed that includes a trailer-mounted, automated low-pressure water delivery system, additive and detergent injection system, nozzle and manifold technology, and active waste water effluent collector system. The system will deliver the liquid cleaning medium at a specific pressure, temperature, and flow rate to optimize the atomization that occurs at the nozzles.

An apparatus for cleaning wing mounted gas turbine engines, comprising: means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium;means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium, wherein said means injects additives and/or detergents into the wash medium after pressurization;a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having a plurality of nozzles mounted on a moveable manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of wash medium, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for delivering the wash medium into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine and connectable to the gas turbine engine; andmeans for actively, through suction of the engine exhaust airflow, collecting the aqueous wash medium after said medium transverses the engine, wherein the means for actively collecting the aqueous wash medium includes a vertically extending front face that is positionable at an outlet of the engine to receive a substantially horizontal airflow. 3. An apparatus for cleaning wing mounted gas turbine engines, comprising: means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium;means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium,a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having a plurality of nozzles mounted on a moveable manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of wash medium, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for delivering the wash medium into the engine and connectable to the gas turbine engine, wherein said nozzles are arranged on a manifold array with each nozzle having unique characteristics as to droplet size, flowrate, and dispersion spray pattern; andmeans for actively, through suction of the engine exhaust airflow, collecting the aqueous wash medium after said medium transverses the engine, wherein the means for actively collecting the aqueous wash medium includes a vertically extending front face that is positionable at an outlet of the engine to receive a substantially horizontal airflow. 4. An apparatus for cleaning wing mounted gas turbine engines, comprising: means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium, wherein said means comprises an automated, low-pressure water delivery system operating from about 200 psi to about 725 psi;means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium by injection of additives and/or detergents into the wash medium after pressurization;a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having a plurality of nozzles mounted on a moveable manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of wash medium, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for delivering the wash medium into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine and connectable to the gas turbine engine, wherein said nozzles are arranged on a manifold array with each nozzle having unique characteristics as to droplet size, flowrate, and dispersion spray pattern; andmeans for actively, through suction of the engine exhaust airflow, collecting the aqueous wash medium after said medium transverses the engine, wherein the means for actively collecting the aqueous wash medium includes a vertically extending front face that is positionable at an outlet of the engine to receive a substantially horizontal airflow. 5. The apparatus of any one of claims 1 to 4 further comprising: means for purging the wash medium from the engine cleaning apparatus. 6. The apparatus of any one of claims 1 to 4 further comprising: means for controlling the engine cleaning apparatus. 7. The apparatus of any one of claims 1 to 4 further comprising: a portable power generator that will power the engine cleaning apparatus. 8. The apparatus of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said aqueous wash medium is water that has a resistivity of near 18 MegaOhms and contains less than 0.1 parts per million total dissolved solids. 9. The apparatus of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said additives and/or detergents are selected from the group consisting of cleaning solutions, foaming agents, detergents, freeze depressant, emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors, and anti-static additives. 10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium comprises: a tank for holding the aqueous wash medium;means for heating and maintaining the temperature of the wash medium;a motor controlled pump;plumbing from the tank to a motor controlled pump;a variable frequency drive motor controller; andplumbing from the pump towards the engine. 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said aqueous wash medium is water that has a resistivity of near 18 MegaOhms and contains less than 0.1 parts per million total dissolved solids. 12. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said means for heating and maintaining the temperature of the wash medium heats and maintains said wash medium to a range from about 150 degrees to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. 13. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the means for heating and maintaining the temperature of the wash medium comprises tank band heaters. 14. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the means for heating and maintaining the temperature of the wash medium comprises immersion heaters or panels. 15. The apparatus of claim 10 further comprising: means for purging the wash medium from the plumbing from the pump towards the engine. 16. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said means for actively, through suction of the engine exhaust airflow, collecting the aqueous wash medium comprises: a wheeled frame having the following components mounted thereon a collection pan;an air mist eliminator mounted on the collection pan;a suction fan mounted behind the air mist eliminator that actively pulls the engine exhaust with entrained effluent through the eliminator;a trough that is connected to the collection pan and extends forward beyond the front of the engine;a pump mounted on the collection pan; andplumbing to connect the pump to a holding tank that stores the collected effluent for later processing. 17. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein said means further comprises a duct that extends vertically to connects the engine exhaust port of an elevated or tail-mounted engine to the front of the air mist eliminator. 18. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium comprises: one or more tanks for holding the additives and/or detergents;a motor controlled pump for each tank;plumbing from each tank to its corresponding motor controlled pump; andplumbing from each pump into the pressurized aqueous wash medium plumbing. 19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said additives and/or detergents are selected from the group consisting of cleaning solutions, foaming agents, detergents, freeze depressant, emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors, and anti-static additives. 20. The apparatus of claim 3 further comprising: means for purging the aqueous wash medium from the manifold array and nozzles. 21. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said means for purging comprises: a compressed air source which is activated at the end of the wash cycle to flush the wash medium from the wash delivery pump and plumbing. 22. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein said means for purging comprises: a compressed air source which is activated at the end of the wash cycle to flush the wash medium from the manifold array and nozzles. 23. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein the compressed air source is instrument-grade compressed air. 24. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein said control means is an electronic microprocessor control, feedback, data storage, and application programming system. 25. The apparatus of claim 22 wherein the compressed air source is instrument-grade compressed air. 26. An apparatus for cleaning gas turbine engines, comprising: means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium, wherein said means comprises an automated, low-pressure water delivery system operating from about 200 psi to about 725 psi;means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium by injection of additives and/or detergents into the wash medium;a plurality of nozzles that are positionable with respect to the an air inlet of a wing mounted gas turbine engine and connectable to the engine for delivering the wash medium into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine wherein said nozzles are arranged on a manifold array each nozzle having unique characteristics as to droplet size, flowrate, and dispersion spray pattern and the manifold is positionable directly in front of the air inlet of the engine;a collection device with a vertically extending front face, mounted on a wheeled frame, said collection device being adapted for actively collecting the aqueous wash medium after said medium transverses the engine;means for purging the wash medium from the engine cleaning apparatus; means for controlling the apparatus for cleaning gas turbine engines;a portable power generator that will power the engine cleaning apparatus; andmeans for controlling at least one of the means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium, means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium, nozzles for delivering the wash medium, means for actively collecting the aqueous wash medium, means for purging the wash medium or powering of the cleaning apparatus. 27. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein said apparatus is trailer mounted. 28. An apparatus for cleaning gas turbine engines, comprising: means for storing an aqueous wash medium;means for pressurizing an aqueous wash medium;means for transmitting fluid from the storage means to the pressurizing means;means for incorporating additives and/or detergents into the wash medium, wherein said means comprises injection of additives and/or detergents into the fluid transmission means;a collection device, mounted on a wheeled frame, said collection device having a vertically extending front face that is positionable at an outlet of a gas turbine engine and being adapted for actively collecting the aqueous wash medium after said medium transverses the engine and exits the engine in a substantially horizontal airflow; anda manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having a plurality of nozzles mounted on a moveable manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of wash medium, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of the gas turbine engine for delivering the wash medium into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine and directly connectable to the engine. 29. The apparatus of claim 28 wherein said additives and/or detergents are selected from the group consisting of cleaning solutions, foaming agents, detergents, freeze depressant, emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors, and anti-static additives. 30. A mobile collection system for collecting waste liquid from washing of wing mounted gas turbines, wherein washing liquid is delivered to an engine inlet and waste liquid exits an outlet of the engine with the engine exhaust airflow, the system comprising: a mobile air mist eliminator mounted on wheels for rolling engagement with a supporting surface, the air mist eliminator adapted for separating waste liquid that exits the outlet of the gas turbine engine from the engine exhaust airflow;a duct with a vertically extending front face, the duct positionable in front of and at a distance from the exhaust outlet of a wing mounted gas turbine engine and connecting to the air mist eliminator, wherein the waste liquid exiting the engine outlet in a substantially horizontal airflow is transported by the duct to be captured by the air mist eliminator; anda container for receiving and retaining the captured waste liquid from the air mist eliminator. 31. A collection system according to claim 30 further comprising a suction fan positioned behind the air mist eliminator that actively pulls the waste liquid and the engine exhaust airflow, from the turbine, through the mist eliminator. 32. A collection system according to claim 30 further comprising a trough, located between the engine and the ground, and connected to the container and extending forward to be positioned underneath the engine to capture any waste liquid that may exit the engine. 33. A collection system according to claim 32, wherein the trough is flexible and mounted on a roller for being rolled up when not in use and unrolled when in use. 34. A collection system according to claim 30, wherein the duct is flexible. 35. A collection system according to claim 30, wherein the duct is height adjustable to accommodate being used for washing gas turbines on-wing, and with different types of aircraft and different types of engines where the position of the engine may vary. 36. A collection system according to claim 30, wherein the duct has a channel through its longitudinal axis and a diameter of the channel at least at its end adjacent the engine is sized larger than the diameter of the engine outlet. 37. A mobile collection system for collecting waste liquid from washing of gas turbines, wherein washing liquid is delivered to an engine inlet and waste liquid exits an outlet of the engine, during cranking operation of the turbine, the system comprises: a wheeled frame adapted for rolling engagement with a supporting surface and with a vertically extending front face positionable directly in front of but not connected to an aircraft engine outlet, the wheeled frame having an air mist eliminator for capturing waste liquid expelled from the turbine outlet mounted thereon;a suction fan positioned on the wheeled frame behind the air mist eliminator that actively pulls the waste liquid through the air mist eliminator; anda container for receiving and retaining the waste liquid from the air mist eliminator. 38. A collection system according to claim 37, further comprising a duct connecting to the air mist eliminator, wherein the waste liquid exiting the engine outlet is transported by the duct to be captured by the air mist eliminator. 39. A collection system according to claim 38, wherein the duct is flexible. 40. A collection system according to claim 38, wherein the duct is height adjustable to accommodate being used for washing gas turbines on-wing, and with different types of aircraft and different types of engines where the position of the engine may vary. 41. A collection system according to claim 38, wherein the duct has a channel through its longitudinal axis and a diameter of the channel at least at its end adjacent the engine is sized larger than the diameter of the engine outlet. 42. A collection system according to claim 38 further comprising a trough positioned underneath the engine to capture any waste liquid that may exit the engine and delivering the captured waste liquid to the container. 43. A system for on-wing engine washing and for collection of waste liquid exiting the engine, the system comprising: a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having a plurality of nozzles mounted on a manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of washing liquid, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for introducing a washing liquid into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine while said engine is being operated in order to create an air stream through the engine, thereby entraining the washing liquid into the airflow as said washing liquid passes through said engine; anda collector positionable adjacent an engine exhaust outlet for collecting said used washing liquid from the engine exhaust airflow as the engine is being operated, the collector having a vertically extending front face adapted for being positioned directly downstream of the engine exhaust outlet and receiving the engine exhaust airflow flowing substantially horizontally that exits the engine exhaust outlet and the collector being connected to a container for receiving washing liquid that exits the engine. 44. A system according to claim 43, wherein the collector is connected exclusively to an exhaust exit end of the engine. 45. A system of claim 43, further comprising an effluent trough beneath said engine, located between the engine and the ground, and for capturing any washing liquid exiting or dripping down from underneath said engine into said effluent trough. 46. A system according to claim 43, wherein the collector further comprises a liquid separator for separating the entrained washing liquid from said airflow. 47. A system for on-wing washing of gas turbines and for collecting waste liquid exiting from the engine, the system comprising: a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, a plurality of nozzles mounted on a manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of washing liquid, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for introducing a washing liquid into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine while said engine is being operated; anda collection duct having a receiving end, a discharge end and an elongated passageway extending between the receiving end and the discharge end, the receiving end having a vertically extending front face sized to receive at least a portion of an exhaust exit end of the engine for collecting used washing liquid suspended in the substantially horizontal exhaust airflow emitted therefrom, and the receiving end of the collection duct having an adjustable height, such that the receiving end can be placed directly downstream from but not connected to engines of varying height. 48. A system for on-wing washing of gas turbines and for collecting waste liquid existing from the engine, the system comprising: a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having at least one nozzle mounted on a manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of washing liquid, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for introducing a washing liquid into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine while said engine is being operated; anda flexible collection conduit having a receiving end, a discharge end and an elongated passageway extending between the receiving end and the discharge end, the receiving end positioned a distance directly in front of at least a portion of an exhaust exit end of the engine for collecting used washing liquid suspended in the substantially horizontal exhaust airflow emitted therefrom, and said flexible collection conduit having a vertically extending front face and being sized to receive at least a majority of the exhaust airflow emitted from the engine. 49. A system for on-wing engine washing and for collection of waste liquid exiting the engine, the system comprising: a manifold and injection nozzle assembly, having a plurality of nozzles mounted on a manifold that is fluidly connected to a source of washing liquid, the manifold positionable directly in front of an air inlet of a gas turbine engine for introducing a washing liquid into the air inlet of the gas turbine engine while said engine is being operated in order to create an air stream through the engine, thereby entraining the washing liquid into the air stream as said washing liquid passes through said engine;a collection duct receiving end, a discharge end and an elongated passageway extending between the receiving end and the discharge end, wherein the receiving end is vertically positionable in contact with at least an exit end of the engine for receiving the entrained washing liquid; anda liquid separator mounted on a frame and including an elongated portion defining a vertically extending front face, said front face being positioned adjacent the discharge end of the collection duct. 50. A system for on-wing engine washing and for collection of waste liquid exiting the engine, the system comprising: a plurality of nozzles mounted on a movable nozzle assembly that is positionable directly in front of an inlet for a gas turbine engine for injecting a washing medium into at least a portion of the gas flow path of a gas turbine engine while the engine is operatively cranked in order to create airflow through the engine, thereby entraining the washing liquid into the airflow as said washing liquid passes through said engine; anda collector having a vertically extending front face, an air mist eliminator and collection trough and positionable adjacent an engine exhaust outlet so that the front face is located directly downstream from the engine exhaust outlet for collecting said used washing liquid that exits the engine with the airflow leaving the exhaust exit of the engine as the engine is operatively cranked. 51. A collector for collection of waste liquid exiting an engine resulting from an on-wing engine washing procedure, the collector comprising: a liquid separator mounted on a frame and including an elongated portion defining a vertically extending front face, wherein the liquid separator front face is positionable directly downstream from and at a distance from an engine exhaust outlet, so that waste liquid entrained in an air stream exiting the engine exhaust outlet in an substantially horizontal airflow will contact the front face and the liquid separator will separate waste liquid entrained in the air stream from the air stream; anda container in communication with the liquid separator, such that waste liquid separated from the air stream by the liquid separator is provided to and retained by the container for storage. 52. The collector according to claim 51, further comprising a trough, elongated in a longitudinal direction and also in communication with the container, with the trough being positionable beneath the engine to capture any waste liquid that may drip from the engine, and with the captured wasted liquid being provided to and retained in the container for storage. 53. The collector according to claim 52, wherein the trough comprises a bottom surface adapted to channel water to at least one drain port, wherein said drain port is fluidly connected to the container. 54. The collector according to claim 51, further comprising a collection duct defining front and rear ends and an elongated channel extending therethrough, wherein the front end is positionable adjacent the engine exhaust outlet such that air stream and entrained waste liquid exiting the engine will enter the duct and travel through the elongated channel and wherein the rear end is positionable adjacent the front face area of the liquid separator, such that the air stream and entrained waste liquid travelling through he elongated channel will exit from the channel through the rear end of the duct and contact the front face area of the liquid separator. 55. The collector according to claim 54, wherein the front end of the duct contacts the engine when the duct is positioned adjacent the engine exhaust outlet. 56. The collector according to claim 54, wherein the engine is received within at least a portion of the elongated channel when the duct is positioned adjacent the engine exhaust outlet. 57. The collector according to claim 54, wherein the front end of the duct is spaced from the engine when the duct is positioned adjacent the engine exhaust outlet. 58. The collector according to claim 54, wherein the duct is flexible. 59. The collector according to claim 54, wherein the height of the front end of the duct is adjustable to accommodate engine exhaust outlets at varying heights. 60. The collector according to claim 54, wherein the rear end of the duct contacts the liquid separator. 61. The collector according to claim 51, further comprising a fan positioned adjacent the liquid separator and adapted to pull airflow exiting the engine exhaust outlet, and waste liquid entrained therein, into the liquid separator. 62. The collector according to claim 51, wherein the liquid separator comprises an air mist eliminator. 63. The collector according to claim 51, wherein the collector is mounted on wheels for rolling engagement with a supporting surface. 64. The collector according to claim 51, wherein the collector is part of a system for performing an on-wing engine washing procedure, the system comprising a manifold and nozzle assembly for injecting washing liquid into the air intake of a wing-mounted gas turbine engine.
