The glide movement controller includes a generally U-shaped controller body configured to move towards the shaft in a first direction such that resistance upon the shaft is increased and away from the shaft in a second direction such that resistance upon the shaft is decreased; a pair of apertures extending through the controller body; and an interior bearing surface defined on the controller body. The interior bearing surface is configured and arranged to face the shaft. In certain embodiments, at least a portion of the interior bearing surface is located between the apertures.

A power saw comprising: a table configured to receive a workpiece;a saw blade and motor assembly operatively connected to said table, said saw blade and motor assembly being configured to rotate a saw blade;a linear guide mechanism attached to said table and being configured to support said saw blade and motor assembly and enable movement of said saw blade and motor assembly along a predetermined linear path in either a forward or a rearward direction;said linear guide mechanism comprising at least two links connected by a hinge connection, wherein said hinge connection includes a shaft that is fixed for rotation with respect to a first one of said links, but wherein said shaft is able to rotate with respect to a second one of said links; anda glide movement controller operatively connected to said hinge connection, wherein said glide movement controller comprises a controller body and a plurality of fastening members configured to move said controller body such that resistance upon said shaft is increased upon movement in a first direction and decreased upon movement in a second direction. 2. The power saw according to claim 1, wherein said controller body includes an interior bearing surface configured and arranged to increase the resistance by more tightly contacting said shaft and to decrease the resistance by less tightly contacting said shaft. 3. The power saw according to claim 1, wherein: said hinge connection includes a spacer surrounding said shaft, whereby said spacer is fixed for rotation with respect to said shaft; andsaid controller body includes an interior bearing surface configured and arranged to increase the resistance by more tightly contacting said spacer and to decrease the resistance by less tightly contacting said spacer. 4. The power saw according to claim 1, wherein said controller body is generally U-shaped and comprises: an interior bearing surface configured and arranged to face said shaft; and a plurality of apertures, whereby each of said apertures is configured and arranged to allow one of said fastening members to pass therethough. 5. The power saw according to claim 1, wherein: said controller body includes an interior bearing surface configured and arranged to face said shaft; andsaid interior bearing surface comprises a plurality of ribs. 6. The power saw according to claim 5, wherein said ribs extend in a direction parallel to said shaft. 7. The power saw according to claim 1, further comprising: an interior bearing surface defined on said controller body, wherein said interior bearing surface is configured and arranged to face said shaft;a plurality of ribs that extend generally parallel to said shaft, wherein said plurality of ribs comprise said interior bearing surface; anda plurality of struts formed between adjacent pairs of said ribs. 8. The power saw according to claim 7, wherein: a plurality of compartments are defined between adjacent pairs of said ribs and adjacent pairs of said struts; anda lubricant is provided within said compartments. 9. The power saw according to claim 1, wherein: said controller body is generally U-shaped;an interior of said generally U-shaped controller body defines an interior bearing surface that is configured and arranged to face said shaft; andan aperture is formed in said controller body for cooperating with each of said fastening members, such that a first aperture is formed on one side of said interior bearing surface and a second aperture is formed on the other side of said interior bearing surface. 10. The power saw according to claim 1, further comprising: a pair of bearings associated with said second link, wherein said shaft is seated within said bearings;a plurality of threaded apertures formed in a wall of said second link, whereby each of said threaded apertures is configured and arranged to receive one of said fastening members; anda plurality of apertures formed in said controller body, whereby one of said fastening members passes through each of said apertures before being received in one of said threaded apertures. 11. The power saw according to claim 1, wherein: said linear guide mechanism has a first pivot axis perpendicular to the plane of said saw blade about which said saw blade and motor assembly is pivotable to move said saw blade vertically into and out of cutting position; andsaid hinge connection defines a second pivot axis, along said shaft, that is parallel to said first pivot axis. 12. A glide movement controller for use with a hinge connection that includes a shaft, said glide movement controller comprising: a generally U-shaped controller body configured to move towards the shaft in a first direction such that resistance upon the shaft is increased and away from the shaft in a second direction such that resistance upon the shaft is decreased;a pair of apertures extending through said controller body; andan interior bearing surface defined on said controller body, wherein said interior bearing surface is configured and arranged to face the shaft, and further wherein at least a portion of said interior bearing surface is located between said apertures. 13. The glide movement controller according to claim 12, wherein said interior bearing surface includes a plurality of ribs extending in a direction generally parallel to the shaft. 14. The glide movement controller according to claim 13, further comprising: a plurality of struts formed between adjacent pairs of said ribs, wherein said struts extend transverse to said ribs; anda plurality of compartments defined between adjacent pairs of said ribs and adjacent pairs of said struts. 15. The glide movement controller according to claim 14, wherein said struts are shorter than said ribs, such that said struts do not form part of said interior bearing surface. 16. The glide movement controller according to claim 12, further comprising a pair of curved interior projections formed around each of said apertures. 17. The glide movement controller according to claim 12, wherein each of said apertures is surrounded by a counterbore recessed into said controller body on an outer peripheral surface thereof, whereby said outer peripheral surface is on an opposite side of said controller body than said interior bearing surface.
