Methods of joining members, forming molded portions with members, securing inserts with members, and joined members, such as for a frame or a frame for a fenestration unit, formed thereby, are disclosed. One embodiment of the method includes placing a first member with a first cavity in a joining position, placing a second member proximate the first cavity of the first member in the joining position, injecting a resin into the first cavity, allowing the resin to solidify at least partially to join the first member and second member to form a joined member, and removing the joined member from the joining position. Optionally, the joined member can be formed in a fixture, can include molded portions formed by the resin, and/or can include inserts held in place by the resin. Further, members without cavities can form a cavity that can receive the resin.

A method of joining a first member and a second member; the first member having a first cavity, the method comprising: placing the first member in a joining position;inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the first member to limit the volume of resin injected;placing the second member proximate the first cavity of the first member in the joining position;injecting a resin into the first cavity of the first member;allowing the resin to solidify at least partially to join the first member and the second member to form a joined member;removing the joined member from the joining position. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the second member includes a first cavity and wherein, prior to injecting the resin, the method further comprises: inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the second member to limit the volume of resin injected. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the first cavity of the first member extends the length of the first member. 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the first cavity of the second member extends the length of the second member. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein the first member and the second member are lineal members. 11. The method of claim 1 wherein the first cavity is at a first end of the first member. 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the second member includes a first cavity at a first end. 13. The method of claim 12 wherein the first end of the first member is placed in the joining position and the first end of the second member is placed in the joining position to form a joint cavity that includes the first cavity of the first member and the first cavity of the second member. 14. The method of claim 12 wherein a flow barrier is inserted in the first cavity of the first member proximate the first end of the first member and a flow barrier is inserted in the first cavity of the second member proximate the first end of the second member. 15. The method of claim 1 wherein prior to injecting the resin, the method further comprises: inserting a first leg of an L-shaped insert into the first cavity of the first member; and,inserting a second leg of the L-shaped insert into the first cavity of the second member. 16. A method of joining a first member and a second member; the first member having a first cavity, the method comprising: placing the first member in a joining position;placing the second member proximate the first cavity of the first member in the joining position;injecting a resin into the first cavity of the first member;allowing the resin to solidify at least partially to join the first member and the second member to form a joined member;removing the joined member from the joining position;wherein the second member includes a tenon that extends at least partially into the first cavity of the first member. 17. The method of claim 1, wherein the second member does not extend into the first cavity of the first member. 18. The method of claim 1 wherein the method forms a polygonal frame structure that includes more than two members. 19. The method of claim 18 wherein the polygonal structure is a rectangle. 20. The method of claim 18 wherein the polygonal structure is a window sash, door panel, window frame, door frame, insect screen, trim, or mulling elements or systems. 21. The method of claim 1 wherein the resin comprises a curable material. 22. The method of claim 21 wherein the curable material includes a filler. 23. The method of claim 22 wherein the filler is fumed silica, potter's beads, walnut shells, talc, fly ash, boiler ash, rice hulls, milled glass, wollastonite, or calcium carbonate. 24. The method of claim 1 wherein the resin comprises a thermoset. 25. The method of claim 1 wherein the resin comprises a two-part polyurethane. 26. The method of claim 1 wherein the resin comprises a non-curable material. 27. The method of claim 26 wherein the non-curable material includes a filler. 28. The method of claim 27 wherein the filler is fumed silica, potter's beads, walnut shells, talc, fly ash, boiler ash, rice hulls, milled glass, wollastonite, or calcium carbonate. 29. The method of claim 1 wherein the resin comprises a thermoplastic. 30. The method of claim 1 wherein prior to injecting the resin, the method comprises: orienting a belt clamp around an outer periphery defined by the joined member and at least a third member; andtightening the belt clamp to apply a compressive force upon the outer periphery to hold the joined member and the at least third member securely while the resin solidifies. 31. A method of joining a first member and a second member of a fenestration unit; the first member having a first cavity; the method comprising: placing the first member in a fixture;placing the second member proximate the first cavity of the first member in the fixture;injecting a resin into the first cavity of the first member;allowing the resin to solidify at least partially to join the first member and the second member to form a joined member;wherein the first member is a rail and the second member is a stile of the fenestration unit. 32. The method of claim 31 wherein the second member includes a first cavity. 33. The method of claim 32 wherein the step of placing the second member proximate the first cavity of the first member in the joining position includes: placing the first cavity of the second member proximate the first cavity of the first member to form a joint cavity. 34. The method of claim 33 wherein the resin from the first cavity of the first member flows into the first cavity of the second member during the step of injecting. 35. The method of claim 33 wherein the resin is inserted into an injection port that is formed either in the first member or the second member, in both the first member and the second member, or at an intersection of the first member and the second member. 36. A method of joining a first member and a second member; the first member having a first cavity; the method comprising: placing the first member in a fixture;inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the first member to limit the volume of the resin injected;placing the second member proximate the first cavity of the first member in the fixture;injecting a resin into the first cavity of the first member;allowing the resin to solidify at least partially to join the first member and the second member to form a joined member;removing the joined member from the fixture. 37. The method of claim 36 wherein the second member includes a first cavity and wherein, prior to injecting the resin, the method comprises: inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the second member to limit the volume of the resin injected. 38. The method of claim 62 wherein a second member with a first cavity is provided and wherein the first cavity of the second member is placed proximate the first cavity of the first member prior to placing the mold proximate the first cavity of the first member; the first cavity of the first member and the first cavity of the second member forming a joint cavity. 64. The method of claim 63 wherein an injection port is formed either in the first member or the second member, in both the first member and the second member, or at an intersection of the first member and the second member. 65. The method of claim 63 wherein, prior to injecting the resin, the method further comprises: inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the first member to limit the volume of resin injected. 66. A method of joining a first member of a fenestration unit and an insert; the first member having a first cavity; the method comprising: placing the first member in a joining position;placing the insert at least partially in the first cavity of the first member;injecting a resin into the first cavity of the first member;allowing the resin to solidify at least partially to join the first member and the insert to form a member with attached insert;removing the member with attached insert from the joining position. 74. The method of claim 73 wherein a second member with a first cavity is provided and wherein the first cavity of the second member is placed proximate the first cavity of the first member prior to placing the insert at least partially in the first cavity of the first member; the first cavity of the first member and the first cavity of the second member forming a joint cavity. 75. The method of claim 74 wherein an injection port is formed either in the first member or the second member, in both the first member and the second member, or at an intersection of the first member and the second member. 76. The method of claim 74 wherein, prior to injecting the resin, the method further comprises: inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the first member to limit the volume of resin injected. 77. The method of claim 74 wherein, prior to injecting the resin, the method further comprises: inserting a flow barrier in the first cavity of the second member to limit the volume of resin injected. 78. A method of joining a first member to a second member comprising the steps of: providing a first member, wherein the first member comprises a first contact surface, and wherein the first contact surface defines a first internal profile and a first external profile, wherein the first internal profile defines an opening to a first cavity and wherein the first external profile defines at least a portion of an external shape of the first member;providing a second member, wherein the second member comprises a second contact surface, wherein the second contact surface defines a second internal profile and a second external profile, wherein the second internal profile defines an opening to a second cavity and wherein the second external profile defines at least a portion of the external shape of the second member;placing the first contact surface in contact with the second contact surface in such a way that the first external profile aligns with the second external profile to provide a predetermined appearance to the joined members and such that the first cavity and the second cavity form a combined cavity;filling the combined cavity with a resin; and,allowing the resin to cure to a solid state;wherein the first member and the second member are integrated into the fenestration unit. 89. The method of claim 88 wherein at least one of the first member and the second member is a lineal member. 90. The method of claim 88 comprising the further step of providing a fixture for aligning the first member with the second member. 91. The method of claim 88 wherein the resin is a curable fluid. 92. The method of claim 91 wherein the curable fluid is a thermoset material. 93. The method of claim 88 wherein the combined cavity is filled by an injection process. 94. The method of claim 88 wherein the first external profile matches the second external profile. 95.
