A three-dimensional micro-truss structure includes: a plurality of first struts extending along a first direction; a plurality of second struts extending along a second direction; a plurality of third struts extending along a third direction; and a plurality of fourth struts extending along a fourth direction, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth struts interpenetrate one another at a plurality of nodes and wherein at least one of the first, second, and third directions extends at a non-perpendicular angle with respect to a plane, the plane being substantially perpendicular to the fourth direction.

A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional micro-truss structure, the method comprising: exposing a volume of photo-monomer to collimated light through a mask, the collimated light passing through a plurality of first apertures of the mask at a non-perpendicular angle with respect to the mask;forming a plurality of angled polymer waveguides into the photo-monomer at the non-perpendicular angle to form the three-dimensional micro-truss structure;exposing the volume of photo-monomer to collimated light through the mask, the collimated light passing through a plurality of second apertures of the mask in a direction perpendicular to the mask; andforming a plurality of vertical polymer waveguides into the photo-monomer in the direction perpendicular to the mask to further foam the three-dimensional micro-truss structure, at least one of the plurality of vertical polymer waveguides interpenetrating at least one of the plurality of angled polymer waveguides. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the forming the plurality of vertical polymer waveguides occurs concurrently with the forming the plurality of angled polymer waveguides. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the forming the plurality of vertical polymer waveguides occurs after the forming the plurality of angled polymer waveguides. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the forming the plurality of vertical polymer waveguides occurs before the forming the plurality of angled polymer waveguides. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the size and shape of each of the first apertures is the same as the size and shape of each of the second apertures. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the size and shape of each of the first apertures is different from and independent of the size and shape of each of the second apertures. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second apertures are significantly larger than the first apertures. 8. A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional micro-truss structure, the method comprising: exposing a volume of photo-monomer to collimated light through a mask, the collimated light passing through a plurality of first apertures of the mask at a non-perpendicular angle with respect to the mask;forming a plurality of angled polymer waveguides into the photo-monomer at the non-perpendicular angle to form the three-dimensional micro-truss structure, each of the angled polymer waveguides having a first cross-sectional area;exposing the volume of photo-monomer to collimated light through the mask, the collimated light passing through a plurality of second apertures of the mask in a direction perpendicular to the mask; andforming a plurality of vertical polymer waveguides into the photo-monomer in the direction perpendicular to the mask to further form the three-dimensional micro-truss structure, each of the plurality of vertical polymer waveguides having a second cross-sectional area different from the first cross-sectional area. 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the second cross-sectional is larger than the first cross-sectional area. 10. A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional micro-truss structure, the method comprising: exposing a volume of photo-monomer to collimated light through a mask, the collimated light passing through a plurality of first apertures of the mask at a non-perpendicular angle with respect to the mask;forming a plurality of angled polymer waveguide trusses into the photo-monomer at the non-perpendicular angle to foam the three-dimensional micro-truss structure;exposing the volume of photo-monomer to collimated light through the mask, the collimated light passing through a plurality of second apertures of the mask in a direction perpendicular to the mask; andforming a plurality of vertical polymer waveguide trusses into the photo-monomer in the direction perpendicular to the mask to further form the three-dimensional micro-truss structure, each of the vertical polymer waveguides trusses having a substantially symmetrical cross section. 11. The method of claim 10, wherein each of the angled polymer waveguide trusses has a circular cross section. 12. The method of claim 10, wherein each of the angled polymer waveguide trusses has an n-petal cross section, wherein n is greater than 2. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein n is 4 and each of the angled polymer waveguide trusses has a cross-shaped cross section.
