The invention pertains to a novel scraper assembly having a plurality of interchangeable scraper heads and handles and corresponding method for use. The scraper assembly further comprises a plurality of abrasive mechanisms, namely spring bristles, coiled springs, chainmail abraders and wire cloth abraders capable of effectively cleaning a surface without scoring or otherwise damaging the surface. The invention may be particularly useful for cleaning grills and ovens. Additionally, the invention may also be useful for shaping, adding texture to, stripping materials from or otherwise preparing a surface, including wood, metal or ceramic surfaces.

1. An grill cleaning apparatus comprising: a handle and a scraper head attached to the handle, wherein the scraper head comprises a frame;a plurality of coiled springs, each coiled spring having first and second ends attached to the frame, wherein a longitudinal body of each coiled spring defined between its first and second ends is arranged for abrading a grill surface to be abraded, wherein each coiled spring is constructed from wire rope, wherein the wire rope comprises one or more strands and wherein at least, one strand comprises about nineteen or more wires and wherein the coiled spring has a spring constant of about 15 N/m to about 90 N/m. 2. the apparatus of claim 1, wherein the wire rope comprises at least two strands. 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein at least one of the two strands comprises at least three wires. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein, the spring constant is about 15 N/m to about 60 N/m. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the spring constant is about 30 N/m to about 35 N/m. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the wire rope further comprises abrasive elements. 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the abrasive elements are selected from the group consisting of teeth, serrations, ridges, barbs, spikes, dimples, threads, hooks, rasps, graters and combinations thereof. 8. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a support structure that is capable of applying pressure against a surface of the coiled springs enabling the coiled springs to conform to contours of the grill surface to be abraded. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each coiled spring has a central aperture, and the plurality of coiled springs comprises at least two coiled springs arranged in parallel with one another with their central apertures facing a frontal region of the scraper head. 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the plurality of coiled springs further comprises at least one coiled spring arranged perpendicular to the at least two coiled springs with its central aperture facing side regions of the scraper head, whereby the at least one coiled spring is adapted to clean an upper portion of a grill gate and the at least two coiled springs with their central apertures facing the frontal region of the scraper head are adapted to clean side portions of grill bars of the grill grate. 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each coiled spring has a central aperture, and the plurality of coiled springs comprises at least two coiled springs arranged in parallel with one another with their central apertures facing side regions of the scraper head. 12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least two of the plurality of coiled springs are disposed at different elevations. 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each coiled spring has a central aperture, and the plurality of coiled springs are arranged in parallel with one another with their central apertures facing a frontal region of the scraper head, wherein a first group of coiled springs from the plurality of coiled springs is disposed at a different elevation than a second group of coiled springs from the plurality of coiled springs. 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein coils from the first group of coiled springs are disposed between each adjacent pair of coils from the second group of coiled springs. 15. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a scraper blade disposed proximate a frontal region of the scraper head. 16. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising a plow shield including a plow surface positioned adjacent to the scraper blade to facilitate removal of debris loosed by the scraper blade. 17. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the coiled springs are attached to the frame through suspension springs. 18. The apparatus of claim 17, further comprising a support structure that is capable of applying pressure against a surface of the coiled springs to enable the coiled springs to conform to contours of the grill surface to be abraded. 19. A grill cleaning apparatus comprising: a handle; anda scraper head attached to said handle, wherein the scraper head comprises: a frame;a bristle attached to the frame, wherein the bristle is constructed from wire rope and adapted to abrade a surface; anda coiled spring having first and second ends attached to the frame so that a longitudinal body of the coiled spring defined between the first and second ends is arranged for abrading a surface of a grill grate, wherein the coiled spring is constructed from wire rope and adapted to abrade the surface of the grill grate, wherein the wire rope of the coiled spring, comprises one or more strands and wherein each strand comprises one or more wires. 20. A cleaning apparatus comprising: a handle; anda scraper head attached to said handle, wherein the scraper head comprises: a frame;a coiled spring having first and second ends attached to the frame so that a longitudinal body of the coiled spring defined between the first and second ends is arranged for abrading a surface to be cleaned, wherein the coiled spring is constructed from wire rope and adapted to abrade the surface to be cleaned, wherein the wire rope comprises one or more strands and wherein each strand is comprised from one or more wires.
