An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the preform comprises a cross piece arrangement. 3. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the surface of the air cleaner seal molded to the preform configured to form a radially directed seal with an air cleaner housing comprises an outwardly directed surface to form an outwardly directed radial seal. 4. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack includes an outer periphery extending from the media pack inlet end to the opposite outlet end, and no portion of the preform extends around the outer periphery of the media pack. 5. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises a coiled media pack comprising alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet and defining a set of inlet flutes and a set of outlet flutes. 6. An air filter cartridge according to claim 5 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet, and a portion of the material molded to the preform and the media pack enters flutes formed by the alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet. 7. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises a stacked media pack comprising alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet and defining a set of inlet flutes and a set of outlet flutes. 8. An air filter cartridge according to claim 7 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet, and a portion of the material molded to the preform and the media pack enters flutes formed by the alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet. 9. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack includes an outer periphery extending between the media pack inlet end and the opposite outlet end, and the material molded to the preform and the media pack extends along the outer periphery of the media pack over a distance of at least 5 mm. 10. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack has an oval shaped cross-section. 11. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises a racetrack shaped cross-section having two opposite curved ends and two, opposite, generally straight sides. 12. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack has a circular cross-section. 13. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack opposite inlet and outlet ends are substantially parallel with one another. 14. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the air cleaner seal and the material molded to the preform and the media pack form an integral molded seal component. 15. An air filter cartridge according to claim 14 wherein: (a) the integral molded seal component is molded over a joint where the preform engages the media pack. 16. An air filter cartridge according to claim 14 wherein: (a) the integral molded seal component comprises a polyurethane foam. 17. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the preform includes a ridge that projects into the media pack. 18. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises sheet filter media formed of cellulose fibers, synthetic fibers, or a mixture of cellulose fibers and synthetic fibers. 19. An air filter cartridge according to claim 18 wherein: (a) the sheet filter media further comprises a fine fiber layer applied to one or more surface of the sheet filter media. 20. An air filter cartridge according to claim 18 wherein: (a) the sheet filter media further comprises a fine fiber layer applied to an upstream side of the sheet filter media. 21. An air filter cartridge comprising: (a) a media pack having an inlet end and an opposite outlet end, wherein the media pack is constructed to provide a straight through flow configuration, and the media pack is closed to flow of unfiltered air into the inlet end and then outwardly from the outlet end without filtering; (b) a preform arranged at one of the media pack ends and including a housing seal support section having an interior surface and an opposite exterior surface, and forming a joint between the preform and the media pack; (c) an air cleaner seal molded to the preform and supported by the housing seal support section, and having a surface configured to form a radially directed seal with an air cleaner housing; and (d) a material molded to the preform and the media pack and over the joint between the preform and the media pack thereby adhering the preform to the media pack. 22. A method of manufacturing an air filter cartridge, the method comprising: (a) molding an air cleaner seal onto a preform to form a radially directed seal with an air cleaner housing, and molding a material onto the preform and a media pack for adhering the preform to the media pack, wherein: (i) the media pack comprises an inlet end and an opposite outlet end, wherein the media pack is constructed to provide a straight through flow configuration, and the media pack is closed to flow of unfiltered air into the inlet end and then outwardly from the outlet end without filtering; (ii) the preform is arranged at one of the media pack ends and includes a housing seal support section having an interior surface and an opposite exterior surface, and wherein the air cleaner seal is molded to the housing seal support section. 23. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet forming flutes, and further comprising allowing the material to enter into an outer periphery of the flutes of the media pack. 24. A method according to claim 22 wherein: (a) the air cleaner seal and the material for adhering the preform to the media pack are formed from a single pool of polymer. 25. An air filter cartridge comprising: (a) a media pack having an inlet end and an opposite outlet end, wherein the media pack comprises alternating fluted sheet and facing sheet defining flutes, and the media pack is closed to flow of unfiltered air into the inlet end and then outwardly from the outlet end without filtering;(b) a preform arranged at one of the media pack inlet end or the media pack outlet end, and including a housing seal support section;(c) an air cleaner seal on the preform and supported by the housing seal support section; and(d) a material adhering the preform to the media pack, wherein a portion of the material enters into the flutes of the media pack. 26. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the air cleaner seal has a surface configured to form a radially directed seal with an air cleaner housing. 27. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the air cleaner seal and the material adhering the preform to the media pack form an integral molded seal component. 28. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the preform comprises an arrangement extending over a face of the media pack. 29. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the media pack includes an outer periphery extending from the media pack inlet end to the opposite outlet end, and no portion of the preform extends around the outer periphery of the media pack. 30. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the portion of material that enters into the flutes of the media pack enters into the flutes located along a periphery of the media pack. 31. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the air cleaner seal comprises a polyurethane foam. 32. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the preform includes a ridge that projects into the media pack. 33. An air filter cartridge according to claim 25 wherein: (a) the media pack comprises sheet filter media formed of cellulose fibers, synthetic fibers, or a mixture of cellulose fibers and synthetic fibers. 34. An air filter cartridge according to claim 33 wherein: (a) the sheet filter media further comprises a fine fiber layer applied to one or more surface of the sheet filter media. 35. An air filter cartridge according to claim 33 wherein: (a) the sheet filter media further comprises a fine fiber layer applied to an upstream side of the sheet filter media.
