A second individual network component is configured to receive data from a remote component. A second individual network component includes at least one of a display device and an audio output device. Data transmitted may include user identity and performance data and route data.

A data transfer system, comprising: a piece of athletic equipment; andan individual network component engaged with the piece of athletic equipment, wherein the individual network component is configured to transmit data, from the piece of athletic equipment to a remote component in communication with the individual network component;wherein the data includes athletic performance information,wherein the remote component includes a display configured to display information based on the data, andwherein the displayed information includes advertising information that has been selected based on the data. 17. A data transfer system, comprising: a first individual network component engaged with a piece of athletic equipment, wherein the first individual network component comprises a motion sensor, and wherein the first individual network component is configured to wirelessly transmit motion data to a second individual network component; andthe second individual network component, wherein the second individual network component comprises a position sensor and at least one of a display and an audio output, is configured to be worn or carried by a user during the athletic activity of the user, is configured to wirelessly receive the motion data from the first individual network component,and is configured to provide an output based on the motion data and data sensed by the position sensor. 23. The data transfer system of claim 22, wherein the motion data comprises one of speed, pace, and distance data. 24. The data transfer system of claim 22, wherein the motion sensor comprises an acceleration sensor. 25. The data transfer system of claim 22, comprising: a third individual network component configured to wirelessly transmit data to the second individual network component,andwherein the data transmitted by the third individual network component is performance data. 26. The data transfer system of claim 22, wherein the piece of athletic equipment comprises an article of footwear to be worn by the user. 27. The data transfer system of claim 25, wherein the second individual network component is configured to provide an output based on the motion data, the data sensed by the position sensor, and the performance data.
