Various systems, methods, and programs embodied in computer-readable mediums are provided for determining optimum sizes of packaging in a packaging suite employed in a materials handling facility. The packaging may be used, for example, in the shipping of items from the materials handling facility to various destinations. The sizes of the packaging in the packaging suite are determined based upon the shipping volumes associated with packages or shipments shipped from the materials handling facility.

1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying a program executable in at least one computing device, comprising: code that obtains a specification of a period of time;code that obtains data describing a plurality of past shipments, each of the plurality of past shipments corresponding to a product collection that has been shipped in a single respective package from a materials handling facility to a respective customer during the period of time that has been specified;code that determines, for each of the plurality of past shipments, a three-dimensional bounding box that encloses the corresponding product collection, at least some of the three-dimensional bounding boxes differing from one another; andcode that generates a packaging suite from the three-dimensional bounding boxes determined for the plurality of past shipments, the packaging suite specifying a plurality of different sizes of packaging that are to be employed in the materials handling facility for future shipments originating from the materials handling facility. 2. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1, further comprising code that generates an order for the packaging in the packaging suite in response to the packaging suite being generated. 3. A system, comprising: at least one computing device; anda packaging suite manager executable in the at least one computing device, the packaging suite manager comprising: logic that obtains data describing a plurality of shipments, each of the plurality of shipments corresponding to an item collection that has been shipped or will be shipped from a materials handling facility to a respective customer;logic that determines, for each of the plurality of shipments, a shipping volume that encloses the corresponding item collection, at least some of the shipping volumes differing from one another; andlogic that generates a packaging suite from the shipping volumes determined for the plurality of shipments, the packaging suite specifying a plurality of different sizes of packaging that are to be employed in the materials handling facility for future shipments originating from the materials handling facility. 4. The system of claim 3, wherein the data describing the plurality of shipments includes data indicating a plurality of dimensions for each item in the item collections. 5. The system of claim 3, wherein the plurality of shipments have previously been shipped. 6. The system of claim 3, wherein the plurality of shipments are scheduled for future shipment. 7. The system of claim 3, wherein a first one of the plurality of shipments corresponds to a first item collection, a second one of the plurality of shipments corresponds to a second item collection, and the first and second item collections include different quantities of a same item. 8. The system of claim 3, wherein a first one of the plurality of shipments corresponds to a first item collection, a second one of the plurality of shipments corresponds to a second item collection, and the first and second item collections include a different item. 9. The system of claim 3, wherein a first one of the plurality of shipments corresponds to a first item collection, a second one of the plurality of shipments corresponds to a second item collection, and the first and second item collections correspond to different three-dimensional bounding boxes. 10. The system of claim 3, wherein the different sizes of packaging in the packaging suite are generated without regard to predetermined sizes of packaging. 11. The system of claim 3, wherein the logic that determines the shipping volume is configured to determine the shipping volume by calculating a plurality of dimensions of a three-dimensional bounding box around the corresponding item collection. 12. The system of claim 3, wherein the logic that generates the packaging suite is configured to generate the packaging suite based at least in part on a predetermined maximum number of sizes of packaging for the packaging suite, and the predetermined maximum number is greater than one. 13. The system of claim 3, wherein the logic that generates the packaging suite is configured to generate the packaging suite based at least in part on a corresponding three-dimensional buffering space determined for each of the different sizes of packaging. 14. The system of claim 3, wherein the logic that generates the packaging suite is configured to minimize a wasted volume in the different sizes of packaging for the future shipments. 15. The system of claim 3, wherein the packaging suite manager further comprises logic that generates an order for the packaging in the packaging suite. 16. The system of claim 3, wherein the packaging suite manager is configured to regenerate the packaging suite periodically at predefined time intervals, and a packaging suite generated at a first time from a first plurality of shipments differs from a packaging suite generated at a second time from a second plurality of shipments. 17. A method, comprising: obtaining, in at least one computing device, data describing a plurality of shipments, each of the plurality of shipments corresponding to an item collection that has been shipped or will be shipped from a materials handling facility to a respective customer;determining, in the at least one computing device, for each of the plurality of shipments, a three-dimensional bounding box that encloses the corresponding item collection, at least some of the three-dimensional bounding boxes differing from one another; andgenerating, in the at least one computing device, a plurality of different sizes of packaging that are to be employed in the materials handling facility for future shipments originating from the materials handling facility, the plurality of different sizes of packaging being generated based at least in part on the three-dimensional bounding boxes and a corresponding three-dimensional buffering space determined for each of the plurality of different sizes of packaging. 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the plurality of different sizes of packaging are generated without regard to predetermined sizes of packaging. 19. The method of claim 17, further comprising obtaining, in the at least one computing device, a desired number of different packaging sizes, the plurality of different sizes of packaging being generated based at least in part on the desired number of different packaging sizes. 20. The method of claim 17, further comprising generating, in the at least one computing device, an order for the plurality of different sizes of packaging.
