A device for applying compression treatment to a part of a wearer's body includes at least one inflatable bladder formed from opposed layers of bladder material. The bladder is constructed so that when worn on the part of the wearer's body inflation of the bladder applies a compressive force to the part of the wearer's body to move blood within the wearer's body part. The at least one bladder has a generally S shape compression region with first, second and third spaced apart sections in fluid communication. At least one opening is formed between the first and second sections. The at least one opening extends through both layers of bladder material to provide communication from an area under the layers of bladder material to a location above the layers of bladder material.

1. A device for applying compression treatment to a part of a wearer's body, the device comprising at least one inflatable bladder formed from opposed layers of bladder material, the bladder being constructed so that when worn on the part of the wearer's body inflation of the bladder applies a compressive force to the part of the wearer's body to move blood within the wearer's body part, the at least one bladder having a generally S shape compression region with first, second and third spaced apart sections in fluid communication, at least one opening being formed between the first and second sections, the at least one opening extending through both layers of bladder material to provide communication from an area under the layers of bladder material to a location above the layers of bladder material. 2. The device as set forth in claim 1 further comprising first and second connecting portions of the bladder, the first connecting portion connecting the first and second sections in fluid communication with each other, the second connecting portion connecting the second and third sections in fluid communication with each other, the first section, second section and first connecting portion defining a ventilating region outside the compression region and bounded on three sides by the first section, first connecting portion and second section and not bounded by the compression region of the bladder on a fourth side, said at least one opening being formed between the first and second sections in the ventilating region. 3. The device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the second section, third section and second connecting portion define a second ventilating region outside the compression region and bounded on three sides by the second section, second connecting portion and third section and not bounded by the compression region of the bladder on a fourth side, further comprising another opening extending through both layers of bladder material between the second and third sections in the second ventilating region. 4. The device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the first, second and third sections and the first and second connecting portions are spaced apart along their entire lengths so that there is no overlap between adjacent sections. 5. The device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the pair of opposing layers of bladder material are secured together along a seamline to define the S-shaped compression region. 6. The device as set forth in claim 1 comprising plural openings extending through both layers of bladder material defining the at least one inflatable bladder and located between the first and second sections of the S-shaped compression region. 7. The device as set forth in claim 6 wherein the layers defining the at least one bladder have plural openings extending through both layers between the second and third sections, the openings between the second and third sections being outside of the S-shaped compression region. 8. The device as set forth in claim 1 comprising a single opening in the layers of bladder material defining the at least one bladder located between the first and second sections of the compression region. 9. The device as set forth in claim 8 wherein the single opening located between the first and second sections extends along substantially an entire length of the first and second sections. 10. The device as set forth in claim 9 further comprising a single opening in the layers of bladder material defining the at least one bladder between the second and third sections, the single opening between the second and third sections extending through both layers of bladder material and along substantially an entire length of the second and third sections. 11. The device as set forth in claim 9 wherein the single opening has spaced apart sides extending along a width of the single opening, the spaced apart sides being spaced a dimension that is greater than or equal to one half a spacing between the first and second sections. 12. The device as set forth in claim 11 wherein the dimension of the space between the spaced apart sides is substantially uniform along a width of the first and second sections. 13. The device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the S-shaped compression region constitutes a first S-shaped compression region, the device further comprising a second S-shaped compression region with at least first and second spaced apart sections, and at least one opening being formed between the first and second sections of the second S-shaped compression region, the at least one opening between the first and second sections of the second S-shaped compression region extending through both layers of bladder material. 14. The device as set forth in claim 13 further comprising an opening between the first and second S-shaped compression regions. 15. The device as set forth in claim 13 further comprising a third S-shaped compression region. 16. The device as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a layer of wicking material attached to the device and located on a side of the at least one bladder that engages the wearer's body part in use, the wicking layer being exposed to atmosphere through the at least one opening. 17. The device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the first and second sections are substantially uniformly spaced apart from each other along their entire widths. 18. The device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the at least one opening is formed between the first and second sections and outside of the S shape compression region. 19. A device for applying compression treatment to a part of a wearer's body, the device comprising opposed layers of bladder material, inflatable bladders formed from the opposed layers of bladder material, the inflatable bladders being constructed so that when worn on the part of the wearer's body inflation of the bladders applies a compressive force to the part of the wearer's body to move blood within the wearer's body part, each of the inflatable bladders having a generally S shape compression region with first, second and third spaced apart sections in fluid communication, a first opening being formed between the first and second sections, a second opening being formed between the second and third sections, the first and second openings each extending through both layers of bladder material to provide communication from an area under the layers of bladder material to a location above the layers of bladder material, and a layer of wicking material underlying the opposed layers of bladder material and being exposed through the bladder material at said first and second openings. 20. The device as set forth in claim 19 wherein the inflatable bladders are arranged to be spaced along the length of the body part from each other when the device is worn on the body part. 21. The device as set forth in claim 19 comprising three inflatable bladders, the three inflatable bladders being arranged to be spaced along a length of the body part from each other when the device is worn on the body part. 22.
