We have disclosed a system for sharing information about a first individual who has engaged or is engaging in a first physical activity. The system may include a first portable performance monitoring system that is capable of being carried with the first individual during the first physical activity. The first portable performance monitoring system may include a first processor configured to determine first performance information for the first individual and a transmitter configured to transmit the first performance information. The system may also include a second portable performance monitoring system that is capable of being carried with a second individual during a second physical activity. The second portable performance monitoring system may include a receiver configured to receive the first performance information and a second processor configured to generate display data based on the first performance information.

The method of claim 1, wherein determining the first performance information further comprises obtaining performance data from, a sensor of the first portable performance monitoring system. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein wirelessly transmitting the first performance information farther comprises wirelessly transmitting directly to the computing device, and wherein the computing device is part of a second portable performance monitoring system that is capable of being carried with a second individual during a second physical activity. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein wirelessly transmitting the first performance information further comprises wirelessly transmitting to the computing device via wide area network infrastructure, and wherein the computing device comprises a server computer system. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual display is generated further based on other performance information obtained for the first individual during another physical activity that was conducted at a different time than the first physical activity. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual display is further generated based on second performance information obtained for a second individual who is different than the first individual. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving second performance information using the computing device from a second individual, and displaying comparative performance data based on the first performance information and the second performance information. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the comparative performance data comprises an indication of the comparative positions of the first individual and the second individual on a simulated course. 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the simulated course corresponds to a route for an upcoming competition. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual display comprises the results of a physical activity competition between the first individual and a second individual. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual display comprises information about the identity of the first individual and information about the first individual's performance during the first physical activity. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual display comprises information about, the identity of the first individual and information about a location of the first individual during the first physical activity. 13. The method of claim 1, further comprising associating annotation data with the first performance information, wherein the visual display comprises information related to the annotation data. 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the annotation data comprises one of a text annotation, a voice annotation, a photographic annotation, and a video annotation. 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting the first physical activity to engage in from a plurality of physical activities stored in a competition database. 16. The method of claim 3, wherein the visual display is generated at a display screen of the second portable performance monitoring system, wherein the second portable performance monitoring system further comprises a mount coupled to the display screen, wherein the mount and the display screen are configured such that the second individual may manually change the orientation of the display screen with respect to the mount. 17. A method for a first individual using a portable performance monitoring system to engage in a physical activity competition, the method comprising: determining first performance information for the first individual using a processor during a first physical activity conducted by the first individual;receiving second performance information associated with a second individual from a remote computing device;determining comparative performance information using the processor based on the first performance information and the second performance information: andoutputting the comparative performance information. 18. The method of claim 17, further comprising transmitting the first performance information to the remote computing device during the first physical activity. 19. The method of claim 17, further comprising transmitting, the first performance information to the remote computing device after the first physical activity has been completed. 20. The method of claim 17, wherein receiving the second performance information from the remote computing device occurs during the first physical activity. 21. The method of claim 17, wherein receiving the second performance information from the remote computing device occurs after the first physical activity has been completed. 22. The method of claim 17, wherein the second performance information is recorded for the second individual during a second physical activity conducted by the second individual. 23. The, method of claim 17, wherein the first physical activity and the second physical activity occur substantially simultaneously. 24. The method of claim 17, wherein the first physical activity and the second physical activity do not occur substantially simultaneously. 25. The method of claim 17, further comprising selecting the physical activity to engage in from a plurality of physical activities stored, in a competition database. 26. The method of claim 25, wherein the selected physical activity stored in the competition database is stored in the database in association with performance information results from other individuals who have engaged or are engaging in the selected physical activity. 27. The method of claim 17, wherein the comparative performance information comprises an indication of the comparative positions of the first individual and the second individual on a simulated course. 28. The method of claim 27, wherein the simulated course corresponds to a route for an upcoming competition.
