1. A forehead sensor for monitoring the depth of consciousness of a patient comprising: a first brain oxygenation sensor including: a first light source package configured to transmit optical radiation towards a cerebral cavity of a patient,a first detector located on the forehead sensor at a first distance from the first light source package, anda second detector located on the forehead sensor at a second distance from the first light source package, wherein the first distance is closer to the first light source package than the second distance;an EEG sensor including electrodes configured to detect electrical signals proximate skin of the forehead of the patient;a reusable portion configured to house the first brain oxygenation sensor; anda disposable portion configured to house the EEG sensor and is configured to be removably connectable to the reusable portion. 2. The forehead sensor of claim 1 comprising: circuitry and processing components for the EEG sensor and the first brain oxygenation sensor; anda connector configured to connect the disposable portion and the reusable portion, the connector also configured to house a larger portion of the circuitry and processing components. 3. The forehead sensor of claim 2 comprising an interface between the connector and the disposable portion, the interface configured to removably attach the disposable portion to the connector. 4. The forehead sensor of claim 1 wherein the first light source package includes a barrier configured to retain light. 5. The forehead sensor of claim 1 wherein at least one of the first detector or the second detector includes a barrier configured to retain light. 6. The forehead sensor of claim 1 wherein the reusable portion is directly connected to the disposable portion. 7. The forehead sensor of claim 1, comprising a second brain oxygenation sensor including: a second light source package configured to transmit optical radiation towards the cerebral cavity of the patient;a third detector located on the forehead sensor at a third distance from the second light source package; anda fourth detector located on forehead sensor at a fourth distance from the second light source package, wherein the third distance is closer to the second light source package than the fourth distance. 8. The forehead sensor of claim 7, wherein the first brain oxygenation sensor is located at a first end of the forehead sensor and the second brain oxygenation sensor is located at a second end of the forehead sensor. 9. A light source for a brain oxygenation sensor, the brain oxygenation sensor comprising: a substrate;a plurality of emitters, attached to the substrate, configured to emit light with at least two different wavelengths towards a tissue site of a patient;a first detector configured to detect emitted light before it is attenuated by the tissue site of the patient to monitor the intensity of the emitted light;a cap configured to integrate the emitted light within the light source;an aperture for at least some of the emitted light to exit the light source towards the tissue site of the patient;a second detector configured to detect light attenuated by the tissue site of the patient; anda positioning element configured to position the light source proximate to the tissue site of the patient. 10. The light source of claim 9 wherein the emitters comprise LEDs. 11. The light source of claim 9 wherein the emitters comprise incandescent lights. 12. The light source of claim 9 comprising a light diffusing material positioned within an optical path between the emitters and the tissue site, the light diffusing material configured to scatters light. 13. The light source of claim 12 wherein the light diffusing material comprises a glass or an epoxy, said material positioned proximate the emitters and the first detector. 14. The light source of claim 9 comprising a light diffusing material positioned within an optical path between the emitters and the first detector, the light diffusing material configured to scatter light. 15. The light source of claim 9 wherein the cap comprises a reflective material. 16. The light source of claim 9 wherein the cap comprises a non-reflective material. 17. The light source of claim 9 comprising a splitting mirror configured to directs light to the first detector and the aperture. 18. The light source of claim 9 comprising a temperature sensor operably connected to the substrate.
