Example air ducts comprising pliable tubular sidewalls are provided with example internal frameworks that hold the duct in a generally expanded shape even when the duct is depressurized. The framework tensions the pliable sidewall material along the length of the ducts to keep the material taut. In some examples, the framework is restrained within the duct such that the duct's sidewall, being in tension, holds the framework in compression longitudinally. Thus, in the longitudinal direction, the duct is in tension and the framework is in compression. To prevent the framework from buckling under the compressive force, some example frameworks comprise a central longitudinal shaft with a plurality of radial spokes and rings that help hold the shaft straight. In some examples, the rings also help hold the duct radially expanded.

1. An air duct system that includes a tubular pliable sidewall and an end cap that when connected define an interior volume of the air duct system, the end cap comprising: an end piece defining a central point and an outer periphery that is substantially fixed relative to the central point;a pliable sheet spanning the end piece and having an outer peripheral portion overlying the outer periphery of the end piece;a fastener attached to the pliable sheet and being connectable to the tubular pliable sidewall;an extension extending from the outer peripheral portion of the pliable sheet; anda constricting member connected to the extension, the constricting member having a tight state and a loose state, the pliable sheet being more taut when the constricting member is in the tight state than when the constricting member is in the loose state, and the extension being closer to the central point of the end piece when the constricting member is in the tight state than when the constricting member is in the loose state. 2. The air duct system of claim 1, further comprising a framework, the tubular pliable sidewall comprises an air duct, the framework is disposed inside and coupled to the air duct, the framework comprising a material of less flexibility than that of the air duct, the framework being in compression along a length of the air duct, and the air duct being in tension along the length of the air duct. 3. The air duct system of claim 1, further comprising a framework disposed inside and coupled to the tubular pliable sidewall, the tubular pliable sidewall defines a longitudinal direction, andthe tubular pliable sidewall being held in tension in the longitudinal direction by virtue of the framework being held in compression in the longitudinal direction. 4. The air duct system of claim 3, wherein the pliable sidewall is more flexible than the framework. 5. The air duct system of claim 3, wherein the tubular pliable sidewall is at a first magnitude of tension in the longitudinal direction when air inside the tubular pliable sidewall is at an inactive ambient air pressure, the tubular pliable sidewall is at a second magnitude of tension in the longitudinal direction when the air inside the tubular pliable sidewall is at an active positive air pressure, and the first magnitude of tension being less than the second magnitude of tension. 6. The air duct system of claim 3, wherein the framework is at a first magnitude of compression in the longitudinal direction when air inside the tubular pliable sidewall is at an inactive ambient air pressure, the framework is at a second magnitude of compression in the longitudinal direction when the air inside the tubular pliable sidewall is at an active positive air pressure, and the first magnitude of compression being greater than the second magnitude of compression. 7. The air duct system of claim 3, wherein the framework is supported by the tubular pliable sidewall. 8. The air duct system of claim 3, further comprising an overhead support structure from which the tubular pliable sidewall is suspended independent of the framework. 9. The air duct system of claim 3, further comprising an overhead support structure to which both the tubular pliable sidewall and the framework are independently connected. 10. The air duct system of claim 3, wherein the framework has a longitudinally adjustable length. 11. The air duct system of claim 1, wherein the end piece includes a ring that defines the central point and provides the outer periphery of the end piece. 12. The air duct system of claim 1, further comprising a hem disposed along the outer peripheral portion of the pliable sheet, the fastener being attached to the pliable sheet via the hem. 13. The air duct system of claim 1, wherein the constricting member is a drawstring. 14. The air duct system of claim 1, wherein the extension and the constricting member are disposed within the interior volume of the air duct system when the end cap is attached to the tubular pliable sidewall. 15. The air duct system of claim 1, wherein the fastener is a zipper. 16. The air duct system of claim 1, wherein the end piece is captured between the pliable sheet and the extension. 17. The air duct system of claim 1, further comprising: a ring disposed within the tubular pliable sidewall and lying substantially perpendicular to a flow direction, the tubular pliable sidewall defines the flow direction along which the air duct system conveys a current of air;a hub disposed substantially at a center point of the ring, the hub extending lengthwise in the flow direction; anda plurality of spokes extending between the ring and the hub, the plurality of spokes being attached to the hub at a plurality of points that are distributed lengthwise along the hub. 18. A method of installing the air duct system of claim 1, the method comprising: accessing an interior volume of the tubular pliable sidewall;installing a framework within the interior volume of the tubular pliable sidewall;coupling the framework to the tubular pliable sidewall; andcompressing the framework and tensioning the tubular pliable sidewall in a longitudinal direction by virtue of the framework being installed within the interior volume of the tubular pliable sidewall. 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the framework has a total weight that is supported by the tubular pliable sidewall. 20. The method of claim 18, further comprising suspending the tubular pliable sidewall without load-carrying assistance from the framework. 21. The air duct system of claim 2, wherein the framework comprises a shaft extending along the length of the air duct, the shaft being in compression to hold the air duct in tension. 22. The air duct system of claim 2, wherein the air duct includes an elbow. 23.
