A driver assistance system for a vehicle includes a display screen disposed within an interior cabin of the vehicle and a camera disposed at the vehicle and having a rearward field of view. The display screen displays video information captured by the camera for assisting the driver during a reversing maneuver. When the vehicle is not executing a reversing maneuver, the information display screen is operable to display information wirelessly communicated to the vehicle from a remote communication system. The information from the remote communication system may include traffic information or traffic related information, such as traffic flow, congestion, stalled vehicle or accident information, alternate routes for the vehicle, and/or traffic information derived from sensors or signs positioned along the road that the vehicle is traveling or on other roads near or associated with that road. The remote communication system may include a highway/road management monitoring system.

A driver assistance system for a vehicle, said driver assistance system comprising: a display screen disposed within an interior cabin of a vehicle equipped with said driver assistance system at a location viewable by a driver of the equipped vehicle;a camera disposed at the equipped vehicle having a field of view rearward of the equipped vehicle;said camera comprising an imaging array sensor;wherein said display screen displays video information captured by said camera for assisting the driver during a reversing maneuver of the equipped vehicle;wherein, when the equipped vehicle is not executing a reversing maneuver, said display screen is operable to display information that is wirelessly communicated from a remote communication system to the equipped vehicle;wherein information communicated from the remote communication system to the equipped vehicle comprises at least one of (i) traffic flow information, (ii) traffic information, (iii) alternate routes for the equipped vehicle, (iv) traffic congestion information, (v) traffic accident information, (vi) stalled vehicle information, (vii) traffic information derived from sensors positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, (viii) traffic information derived from cameras positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, (ix) traffic information derived from signs positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, and (x) traffic information derived from signs along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road that communicate traffic information data to a remote communication system; andan in-vehicle communication control and a human-machine interface located at an interior rearview mirror assembly of the equipped vehicle, wherein said human-machine interface is connected to said in-vehicle communication control via a connective link to communicate at least one human-machine interface signal between said human-machine interface and said in-vehicle communication control, and wherein a global positioning system communicates at least one GPS-derived signal to one of said interior rearview mirror assembly and said in-vehicle communication control via said connective link, said at least one human-machine interface signal and said at least one GPS-derived signal sharing said connective link such that said connective link comprises a shared common connective link between said in-vehicle communication control and said interior rearview mirror assembly. 2. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein information communicated from the remote communication system to the equipped vehicle comprises traffic information derived from sensors positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, and wherein the sensors communicate traffic information data to a remote communication system. 3. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to display on said display screen information communicated from the remote communication system only when the equipped vehicle is one of (a) shifted into park, (b) traveling at a speed below a threshold speed and (c) stationary. 4. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to access electronically stored instructions. 5. The driver assistance system of claim 4, wherein said electronically stored instructions pertain to at least one of (i) an accessory of the equipped vehicle and (ii) operation of the equipped vehicle. 6. The driver assistance system of claim 5, wherein said driver assistance system is operable so that the driver of the equipped vehicle can scroll through and access said electronically stored instructions. 7. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said driver assistance system receives data via a telematics system of the equipped vehicle. 8. The driver assistance system of claim 7, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to display on said display screen information at least partially derived from said received data. 9. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to provide traffic information along a preferred route to a selected destination. 10. The driver assistance system of claim 9, wherein an alternate route is provided when the traffic information is indicative of unfavorable traffic conditions. 11. The driver assistance system of claim 9, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to provide at least one of (i) weather information and (ii) weather forecast information. 12. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein the remote communication system comprises a highway/road management monitoring system. 13. A driver assistance system for a vehicle, said driver assistance system comprising: a display screen disposed within an interior cabin of a vehicle equipped with said driver assistance system at a location viewable by a driver of the equipped vehicle;a camera disposed at the equipped vehicle having a field of view rearward of the equipped vehicle;said camera comprising an imaging array sensor;wherein said display screen displays video information captured by said camera for assisting the driver during a reversing maneuver of the equipped vehicle;wherein, when the equipped vehicle is not executing a reversing maneuver, said display screen is operable to display information that is wirelessly communicated from a remote communication system to the equipped vehicle;wherein said driver assistance system is operable to display on said display screen information communicated from the remote communication system only when the equipped vehicle is one of (a) shifted into park, (b) traveling at a speed below a threshold speed and (c) stationary;wherein information communicated from the remote communication system to the equipped vehicle comprises at least one of (i) traffic flow information, (ii) traffic information, (iii) alternate routes for the equipped vehicle, (iv) traffic congestion information, (v) traffic accident information, (vi) stalled vehicle information, (vii) traffic information derived from sensors positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, (viii) traffic information derived from cameras positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, (ix) traffic information derived from signs positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, and (x) traffic information derived from signs along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road that communicate traffic information to a remote communication system;wherein at least one of (a) said driver assistance system receives data via a telematics system of the equipped vehicle and (b) the remote communication system comprises a highway/road management monitoring system; andan in-vehicle communication control and a human-machine interface located at an interior rearview mirror assembly of the equipped vehicle, wherein said human-machine interface is connected to said in-vehicle communication control via a connective link to communicate at least one human-machine interface signal between said human-machine interface and said in-vehicle communication control, and wherein a global positioning system communicates at least one GPS-derived signal to one of said interior rearview mirror assembly and said in-vehicle communication control via said connective link, said at least one human-machine interface signal and said at least one GPS-derived signal sharing said connective link such that said connective link comprises a shared common connective link between said in-vehicle communication control and said interior rearview mirror assembly. 14. The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein said driver assistance system receives data via a telematics system of the equipped vehicle and wherein said driver assistance system is operable to display on said display screen information at least partially derived from said received data. 15. The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to provide traffic information along a preferred route to a selected destination, and wherein an alternate route is provided when the traffic information is indicative of unfavorable traffic conditions. 16. The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein information communicated from the remote communication system to the equipped vehicle comprises traffic information derived from sensors positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, and wherein the sensors communicate traffic information data to a remote communication system. 17. A driver assistance system for a vehicle, said driver assistance system comprising: a display screen disposed within an interior cabin of a vehicle equipped with said driver assistance system at a location viewable by a driver of the equipped vehicle;a camera disposed at the equipped vehicle having a field of view rearward of the equipped vehicle;said camera comprising an imaging array sensor;wherein said display screen displays video information captured by said camera for assisting the driver during a reversing maneuver of the equipped vehicle;wherein, when the equipped vehicle is not executing a reversing maneuver, said display screen is operable to display information that is wirelessly communicated from a remote communication system to the equipped vehicle;wherein the remote communication system comprises a highway/road management monitoring system;wherein the information received from the remote communication system comprises information pertaining to a preferred route to a selected destination;wherein information communicated from the remote communication system to the equipped vehicle comprises at least one of (i) traffic flow information, (ii) traffic information, (iii) alternate routes for the equipped vehicle, (iv) traffic congestion information, (v) traffic accident information, (vi) stalled vehicle information, (vii) traffic information derived from sensors positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, (viii) traffic information derived from cameras positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, (ix) traffic information derived from signs positioned along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road, and (x) traffic information derived from signs along the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling or along other roads near or associated with that road that communicate traffic information to a remote communication system; andan in-vehicle communication control and a human-machine interface located at an interior rearview mirror assembly of the equipped vehicle, wherein said human-machine interface is connected to said in-vehicle communication control via a connective link to communicate at least one human-machine interface signal between said human-machine interface and said in-vehicle communication control, and wherein a global positioning system communicates at least one GPS-derived signal to one of said interior rearview mirror assembly and said in-vehicle communication control via said connective link, said at least one human-machine interface signal and said at least one GPS-derived signal sharing said connective link such that said connective link comprises a shared common connective link between said in-vehicle communication control and said interior rearview mirror assembly. 18. The driver assistance system of claim 17, wherein an alternate route is provided when the traffic information is indicative of unfavorable traffic conditions. 19. The driver assistance system of claim 17, wherein said driver assistance system is operable to display on said display screen information communicated from the remote communication system only when the equipped vehicle is one of (a) shifted into park, (b) traveling at a speed below a threshold speed and (c) stationary.
