A method of delivering nitric oxide comprising: heating a reservoir assembly including a reservoir including a restrictor, wherein the restrictor is coupled to the reservoir,releasing nitrogen dioxide from the reservoir assembly via the restrictor into a permeation tube,passing the nitrogen dioxide from the permeation tube into a delivery conduit;passing, a gas from a gas supply into the delivery conduit which allows the gas from the gas supply and the nitrogen dioxide to mix in the delivery conduit;passing the gas and nitrogen dioxide mixture through at least one cartridge, wherein the cartridge comprises a surface-active and a reducing agent; anddelivering nitric oxide from an outlet of the delivery conduit. 21. The method of claim 20, wherein the restrictor includes a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the restrictor is coupled to the reservoir and wherein the second end of the restrictor is coupled to the delivery conduit. 22. The method of claim 20, further comprising attaching a disposable module including the reservoir, the restrictor and a first cartridge to a base unit.
