An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern comprises an aerosol assembly and an outlet assembly. The outlet assembly comprises an actuator member, at least one flexible outlet member supported on the actuator member such that at least one pair of edges defined by the at least one flexible outlet member overlap, and a movable member supported on the actuator member to define an actuator assembly. The movable member is displaced such that the movable member acts on the at least one flexible outlet member to deform the at least one flexible outlet member to alter an effective cross-sectional area of at least a portion of a dispensing path to control fluid flow along the dispensing path and thereby cause the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

1. A method of dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising the steps of: providing an aerosol container defining an aerosol chamber adapted to contain sprayable material;mounting a valve assembly on the aerosol container to form an aerosol assembly, where the valve assembly is normally in a closed configuration in which sprayable material is substantially prevented from flowing out of the aerosol assembly through the valve assembly, andwhen the valve assembly is arranged in an open configuration, sprayable material is allowed to flow out of the aerosol assembly through the valve assembly;providing an actuator member;supporting at least one flexible outlet member on the actuator member such that at least one pair of edges defined by the at least one flexible outlet member overlap;supporting a movable member on the actuator member to define an actuator assembly;arranging the sprayable material and propellant material within the aerosol assembly;supporting the actuator assembly on the valve assembly to define a dispensing path extending from an interior of the aerosol chamber to an exterior of the aerosol chamber through the valve assembly, the actuator member, and the flexible outlet member;displacing the movable member such that the movable member acts on the at least one flexible outlet member to deform the at least one flexible outlet member to alter an effective cross-sectional area of at least a portion of a dispensing path to control fluid flow along the dispensing path and thereby cause the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern, anddisplacing the actuator member to place the valve assembly in the open configuration to allow the propellant to force the sprayable material out of the container assembly along the dispensing path. 2. A method as recited in claim 1, further comprising the step of providing a plurality of flexible outlet members, where at least two pairs of overlapping edges of the plurality of outlet members overlap. 3. A method as recited in claim 1, in which: the sprayable material is texture material; andthe desired spray pattern causes the texture material to be deposited on a surface in a desired texture pattern. 4. A method as recited in claim 3, further comprising the step of displacing the movable member such that the desired texture pattern formed by the desired spray pattern substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the surface. 5. A method as recited in claim 1, in which the step of providing the actuator member comprising the step of providing a flexible sheet rolled such that the flexible sheet defines the pair of overlapping edges. 6. A method as recited in claim 5, in which the movable member acts on the flexible sheet to alter an amount by which the pair of overlapping edges overlap. 7. A method as recited in claim 1, in which the step of providing the actuator member comprising the step of providing a plurality of flexible sheets arranged such that each adjacent pair of flexible sheet defines one pair of overlapping edges. 8. A method as recited in claim 7, in which the movable member acts on the plurality of flexible sheets to alter an amount by which the pairs of overlapping edges overlap. 9. A method as recited in claim 1, in which: the step of providing the actuator member further comprises the step of forming a first threaded portion on the actuator member;the step of providing the movable member comprises the step of forming a second threaded portion on the movable member; andthe step of displacing the movable member in the first direction comprises the steps of engaging the first and second threaded portions, androtating the movable member relative to the actuator member. 10. An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising: an aerosol assembly comprising an aerosol container defining an aerosol chamber;a valve assembly, where the valve assembly is mounted on the aerosol container to contain sprayable material within the aerosol chamber when the valve assembly is normally in a closed configuration in which propellant material is substantially prevented from forcing the sprayable material out of the aerosol assembly through the valve assembly, andwhen the valve assembly is arranged in an open configuration, the propellant material forces sprayable material out of the aerosol assembly through the valve assembly;an outlet assembly comprising an actuator member,at least one flexible outlet member supported on the actuator member such that at least one pair of edges defined by the at least one flexible outlet member overlap, anda movable member supported on the actuator member to define an actuator assembly; wherebythe actuator assembly is supported on the valve assembly to define a dispensing path extending from an interior of the aerosol chamber to an exterior of the aerosol chamber through the valve assembly, the actuator member, and the flexible outlet member;the movable member is displaced such that the movable member acts on the at least one flexible outlet member to deform the at least one flexible outlet member to alter an effective cross-sectional area of at least a portion of a dispensing path to control fluid flow along the dispensing path and thereby cause the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern, andthe actuator member is displaced to place the valve assembly in the open configuration to allow the propellant to force the sprayable material out of the container assembly along the dispensing path. 11. An aerosol system as recited in claim 10, comprising a plurality of the flexible outlet members, where at least two pairs of overlapping edges of the plurality of flexible outlet members overlap. 12. An aerosol system as recited in claim 10, in which: the sprayable material is texture material; andthe desired spray pattern causes the texture material to be deposited on a surface in a desired texture pattern. 13. An aerosol system as recited in claim 10, further comprising the step of displacing the movable member such that the desired texture pattern formed by the desired spray pattern substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the surface. 14. An aerosol system as recited in claim 10, in which the at least one flexible outlet member comprises a flexible sheet rolled such that the flexible sheet defines the pair of overlapping edges. 15. An aerosol system as recited in claim 14, in which the movable member acts on the flexible sheet to alter an amount by which the pair of overlapping edges overlap. 16. An aerosol system as recited in claim 10, in which the at least one flexible outlet member comprises a plurality of flexible sheets arranged such that at least one adjacent pair of flexible sheets defines at least one pair of overlapping edges. 17. An aerosol system as recited in claim 16, in which the movable member acts on the plurality of flexible sheets to alter an amount by which the pairs of overlapping edges overlap. 18. An aerosol system as recited in claim 10, in which: the actuator member comprises a first threaded portion;the movable member comprises a second threaded portion; wherebythe first and second threaded portions are engaged such that rotation of the movable member relative to the actuator member displaces the movable member relative to actuator member to deform the at least one flexible outlet member.
