Systems and methods for optimization of mobile traffic directed to private networks and operator configurability thereof are disclosed. One embodiment includes a method, which may be implemented on a system, for identifying a network accessed by mobile traffic at a mobile device, identifying an operator of the network, and/or determining whether the mobile traffic is directed towards a private or public network. In response to determining that the mobile traffic is directed towards a private network, determining whether the private network is owned by or operated by the operator. Optimization of the mobile traffic is performed based on policies set by the operator. In general, the system maintains and/or enforces different sets of policies regarding mobile traffic optimization set by different and multiple operators.

A method of optimizing mobile traffic, the method, comprising: identifying a public and a private network accessed by mobile traffic at a mobile device;identifying an operator of the public network;determining whether the mobile traffic is directed towards the private or the public network;in response to determining that the mobile traffic is directed towards a private network, determining whether the private network is owned by or operated by the operator of the public network, and in response to determining that the private network is owned by or operated by the operator, optimizing the mobile traffic over the private network;in response to determining that the mobile traffic is directed towards a public network, optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network,wherein the optimization of the mobile traffic on the public and the private network is based on the same policies set by the operator for the public and private network. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the private network comprises applying optimization policies of the public network operator. 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes intercepting the mobile traffic in order to optimize the mobile traffic. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein, the traffic is intercepted by a local proxy on the mobile device. 5. The method of claim 3, wherein, the optimization is performed by the local proxy and/or a proxy server coupled to the local proxy remote from the mobile device. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes batching requests originated from the mobile device. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes categorization based on foreground or background traffic. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes prioritization of the traffic based on time criticality. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes alignment or delay of polling requests from the mobile device. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes monitoring of application behavior on the mobile device. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes optimizing the traffic based on user behavior at the mobile device. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein optimizing the mobile traffic over the public network and the private network includes content caching at the mobile device to decrease future traffic requests from network access. 13. The method of claim 1, wherein, the network accessed by the mobile traffic is a cellular network. 14. The method of claim 1, wherein, the network accessed by the mobile traffic is a WIFI network. 15. A system for optimizing mobile traffic over a network, the method, comprising: means for identifying a public and a private network accessed by mobile traffic;means for identifying an operator of the public and private network;means for determining whether the mobile traffic is directed towards a private or public network and for determining whether the private network is owned or operated by the operator of the public network;means for optimizing the mobile traffic that is directed towards the private network that is owned or operated by the operator of the public network,wherein, optimization of the mobile traffic on the public network and the private network is performed based on policies set by the operator. 16. The system of claim 15, wherein the optimization of the mobile traffic on the public and the private network is based on the same policies set by the operator. 17. The system of claim 16, further comprising, means for, determining that the private network is not owned or operated by the operator of the private network, wherein the traffic is not optimized when the private network is not owned or operated by the operator of the private network. 18. The system of claim 15, wherein, the policies set by the operator include policies for mobile traffic directed towards the private network. 19. The system of claim 15, wherein, the policies set by the operator include policies for mobile traffic directed towards the public network. 20. The system of claim 15, wherein, the policies set by the operator are configurable and reconfigurable. 21. The system of claim 15, wherein, the network is a 3G network. 22. The system of claim 15, wherein, the network is a 4G network. 23. The system of claim 15, wherein, the network is a WiMax network. 24. A method for optimizing mobile traffic sent from a mobile device connected to a WIFI network, the method, comprising: optimizing outbound mobile traffic directed to public networks from the mobile device;wherein, the outbound mobile traffic directed to the public networks is sent via the WIFI network;optimizing outbound mobile traffic directed to a private network;wherein, the outbound mobile traffic directed to the private network is sent via the WIFI network;wherein, the private network is also owned or operated by an operator of the WIFI network via which the mobile traffic is sent,wherein the optimization of the mobile traffic on the public and the private network is based on the same policies set by the operator. 25. The method of claim 24, wherein, the optimizing is performed by the local proxy and/or a proxy server coupled to the local proxy remote from the mobile device. 26. The method of claim 24, further comprising, determining an operator of the WIFI network. 27. The method of claim 24, further comprising, maintaining and enforcing different sets of policies regarding mobile traffic optimization set by different and multiple operators.
