A deer attracting device and/or a kit incorporating the same facilitates luring deer to a specific location. The device includes a base that is supported from below by an underlying ground surface and a lock that holds a visual lure in an upright position, extending away from the base, so that deer can easily see the visual lure. A scent carrier may be applied to the visual lure and is configured to entice deer to apply their own scent(s) to the visual lure by scent marking or licking the lure. This encourages other deer to do the same after being visually drawn close enough to the visual lure to detect the scent. Correspondingly, the deer maintain or replenish the scent of the lure mitigating the need for a human to artificially do the same. The visual lure is maintained in position on the base be a column within which a lower end of the visual lure is received, and a lock that maintains the visual lure within the column.

1. A kit for attracting deer comprising: a device that includes a base adapted to be supported from below by a ground surface and a flexible column having an opening extending in a longitudinal direction and an upper end connected to a lock defining a passage aligned and communicating with the opening of the flexible column;a visual lure extending upwardly from the base and including an end that extends through the passage of the lock and at least partially into the opening of the flexible column so as to maintain the visual lure in a substantially upright position; anda scent carrier emitting a deer attracting scent and adapted to be applied to the visual lure. 2. The kit for attracting deer of claim 1, wherein a tree defines the visual lure, and a stake extends downwardly from the base and into the ground so as to maintain the base in a constant location. 3. The kit of claim 1, wherein the flexible column extends continuously between the base and the lock. 4. A deer attracting device comprising: a base adapted to be supported from below by a ground surface;a flexible column extending upwardly from the base, wherein the flexible column defines a lower end secured to the base and an upper end spaced upwardly therefrom, wherein the flexible column defines an axial passage and is configured to flex laterally relative to the base;a lock carried by the upper end of the flexible column and defining a locked position and an unlocked position and defining a passage therethrough in communication with the passage of the flexible column; anda visual lure extending upwardly from the base for viewing by deer, wherein the visual lure includes a lower portion that extends through the passage of the lock and at least partially into the passage of the flexible column, wherein the lower portion of the visual lure is removably held by the lock such that (i) in the locked position, the lock retains the lower portion of the visual lure within the lock passage and at least partially within the passage of the flexible column, and (ii) in the unlocked position, the lock permits withdrawal of the visual lure therefrom. 5. The deer attracting device of claim 4, wherein the visual lure is at least one of a tree, a portion of a tree, a replica of a tree, and a replica of a portion of a tree. 6. The deer attracting device of claim 4, wherein the visual lure is capable of receiving a scent carrier emitting a deer attracting scent and maintaining the scent carrier thereon. 7. The deer attracting device of claim 4, wherein the visual lure is capable of receiving a scent carrier emitting a deer attracting scent that resembles or is made from at least one of a glandular secretion, a pheromone, and a foodstuff, so as to entice deer to scent mark upon the visual lure or lick the visual lure. 8. The deer attracting device of claim 4, wherein the flexible column extends continuously between the base and the lock. 9. The deer attracting device of claim 4, wherein the flexible column is transversely flexible so as to allow the visual lure to bend toward the ground and resiliently restore to an upright position. 10. The deer attracting device of claim 9, wherein the flexible column is a coil spring. 11. The deer attracting device of claim 4, wherein the lock includes a collar having a setscrew extending through the collar and being radially movable into and out of the lock passage such that (i) the locked position of the lock is defined when the setscrew is moved inwardly into the lock passage, and (ii) the unlocked position of the lock is defined when the setscrew is moved outwardly from the lock passage. 12. The deer attracting device of claim 11, wherein the setscrew has at least one of a thumbscrew configuration and a knob configuration that allows for tool-less moving of the setscrew between the locked and unlocked positions. 13. The deer attracting device of claim 11, wherein the lock passage has a width of about 3-inches or less. 14. The deer attracting device of claim 4, further comprising a stake extending from the base and adapted to be inserted into the ground so as to hold the base in a fixed location with respect to the ground. 15. The deer attracting device of claim 14, wherein a length of the stake is at least two-times a length of the flexible column. 16. The deer attracting device of claim 15, wherein the stake defines at least one-half of an overall length of the device. 17. The deer attracting device of claim 14, wherein the stake has an irregular outer surface that interlocks with the ground when the stake is inserted in the ground. 18. The deer attracting device of claim 17, wherein the irregular outer surface of the stake is defined by ribs that extend outwardly from a shaft portion of the stake and are spaced from each other along a length of the stake. 19. The deer attracting device of claim 18, wherein the stake is made from a piece of rebar. 20. A deer attracting device comprising: a base adapted to be supported from below by a ground surface, wherein the base defines an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface configured for engagement with the ground surface;a flexible column extending upwardly from the upwardly facing surface of the base, wherein the flexible column has an upper end and defines an axial passage extending axially into the flexible column from the upper end, and wherein the base defines ground engaging portions located laterally outwardly of the flexible column, wherein the flexible column is configured to flex laterally over the ground engaging portions of the base;a ground securement arrangement associated with the ground engaging portions of the base and configured to secure the base to the ground surface; anda lock arranged at the upper end of the flexible column and defining a passage therethrough in communication with the passage of the flexible column;wherein the passages of the lock and the flexible column are adapted to receive a visual lure having a lower end portion that can extend through the passage of the lock and at least partially into the passage of the flexible column and an upper portion extending upwardly from the upper end of the flexible column, wherein the flexible column and the lock are arranged with respect to each other to selectively hold the lower end portion of the visual lure within the passage of the lock and within the axial passage of the flexible column. 21. The deer attracting device of claim 20, wherein the lock and the upper end of the flexible column are arranged for unrestricted movement with respect to the base. 22. The deer attracting device of claim 20, wherein the flexible column extends continuously between the base and the lock. 23. The deer attracting device of claim 20, wherein the flexible column and lock are arranged with respect to each other to selectively hold the lower end portion of the visual lure at a variable position within the axial passage of the flexible column for varying flexibility characteristics of the flexible column, wherein the flexible column flexes relatively less when the lower end portion of the visual lure extends relatively further into the passage of the flexible column and is relatively closer to the base, and flexes relatively more when the lower end portion of the visual lure extends relatively less far into the passage of the flexible column and is relatively farther from the base.
