The control interface of claim 2, wherein each of the first menu list and the second menu list comprises one of a plurality of main screens including a home screen, an information screen, and a setup screen. 5. The control interface of claim 4, wherein each screen displays at least one adjustable parameter. 6. The control interface of claim 5, wherein the controller is configured to sequentially select each adjustable parameter in response to rotation of the control dial when the main screen displays more than one adjustable parameter. 7. The control interface of claim 6, wherein when one of the adjustable parameters is selected and the control dial is depressed, the controller is configured to instruct the display to display adjustment of said adjustable parameter in response to subsequent rotation of the control dial, and wherein the controller is further configured to confirm adjustments to the selected adjustable parameter in response to subsequent depression of the control dial. 8. The control interface of claim 4, wherein the home screen displays information about a current patient treatment session. 9. The control interface of claim 2, wherein the controller is configured to navigate through the second menu list in the first direction of navigation when the controller determines rotation of the control dial in the initial direction of rotation. 10. The control interface of claim 2, wherein the controller is further configured to: determine the initial direction of rotation of the control dial from among the first direction of rotation and the second direction of rotation when the control dial is rotated while the second menu list is displayed,re-assign the initial direction of rotation to the first direction of navigation within the second menu list while the second menu list is displayed, andnavigate through the plurality of menu items of the second menu list in the first direction of navigation when the controller determines rotation of the control dial in the initial direction while the second menu list is displayed. 11. The control interface of claim 2, further comprising a button, wherein the controller is configured to instruct the display to display the first menu list in response to pressing the button, or in response to pressing the button and depressing the control dial. 12. The control interface of claim 1, wherein the plurality of menu items are displayed in a linear orientation in the respective menu list, and wherein the first direction of navigation comprises a linear direction of navigation through the plurality of menu items. 13. The control interface of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to assign a second direction of navigation to a direction of rotation opposite the initial direction of rotation when the controller determines the initial direction of rotation of the control dial, the second direction of navigation being opposite the first direction of navigation. 14. An apparatus for treating sleep disordered breathing, the apparatus comprising: a flow generator configured to deliver a supply of breathable gas at positive pressure to a patient; anda control interface configured to control the apparatus, the control interface comprising: a display configured to display a control menu for the apparatus, the control menu including at least one menu list, each menu list including a plurality of menu items, and the at least one menu list comprising a first menu list;a control dial configured to be rotated in a first direction of rotation and a second direction of rotation to navigate within the control menu; anda controller configured to: instruct the display to display the first menu list such that a predetermined one of the plurality of menu items is selected,determine an initial direction of rotation of the control dial from among the first direction of rotation and the second direction of rotation when the control dial is rotated while the first menu list is displayed,assign the initial direction of rotation to a first direction of navigation within the first menu list while the first menu list is displayed, andnavigate through the plurality of menu items of the first menu list in the first direction of navigation then the controller determines rotation of the control dial in the initial direction of rotation. 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the control dial is depressible and the at least one menu list further comprises a second menu list, and wherein the controller is further configured to instruct the display to display the second menu list in response to depression of the control dial. 16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the initial direction of rotation remains assigned to the first direction of navigation during an entire duration of a user session of the apparatus. 17. A method for controlling an apparatus for treating sleep disordered breathing, the apparatus including a flow generator configured to deliver a supply of breathable gas at positive pressure to a patient and a control interface configured to control the apparatus the method comprising: displaying a control menu for the apparatus with a display, the control menu including at least one menu list, each menu list including a plurality of menu items, and the at least one menu list comprising a first menu list;rotating a control dial in a first direction of rotation or a second direction of rotation to navigate within the control menu;instructing the display to display the first menu list with a controller such that a predetermined one of the plurality of menu items is selected;determining an initial direction of rotation of the control dial with the controller from among the first direction of rotation and the second direction of rotation when the control dial is rotated while the first menu list is displayed;assigning the initial direction of rotation with the controller to a first direction of navigation within the first menu list while the first menu list is displayed; andnavigating through the plurality of menu items of the first menu list in the first direction of navigation with the controller when the controller determines rotation of the control dial in the initial direction of rotation. 30. The method of claim 29, further comprising displaying the plurality of menu items in a linear orientation in the respective menu list, and wherein the first direction of navigation comprises a linear direction of navigation through the plurality of menu items. 31. The method of claim 29, wherein the control dial is depressible and the at least one menu list further comprises a second menu list, and wherein the method further comprises depressing the control dial and instructing the display to display the second menu list with the controller in response to depression of the control dial. 32. The method of claim 31, wherein the initial direction of rotation remains assigned to the first direction of navigation during an entire duration of a user session of the apparatus. 33. The method of claim 31, wherein each of the first menu list and the second menu list comprises one of a plurality of main screens including a home screen, an information screen, and a setup screen. 34. The method of claim 33, wherein each screen displays at least one adjustable parameter. 35. The method of claim 34, further comprising sequentially selecting each adjustable parameter with the controller in response to rotation of the control dial when the main screen displays more than one adjustable parameter. 36. The method of claim 34, further comprising: depressing the control dial;instructing the display to display adjustment of said adjustable parameter with the controller in response to subsequent rotation of the control dial when one of the adjustable parameters is selected and the control dial is depressed; andconfirming adjustments to the selected adjustable parameter with the controller in response to subsequent depression of the control dial. 37. The method of claim 33, wherein the home screen displays information about a current patient treatment session. 38. The method of claim 31, further comprising navigating through the second menu list in the first direction of navigation when the controller determines rotation of the control dial in the initial direction of rotation. 39. The method of claim 31, further comprising: determining the initial direction of rotation of the control dial from among the first direction of rotation and the second direction of rotation with the controller when the control dial is rotated while the second menu list is displayed,re-assigning the initial direction of rotation to the first direction of navigation within the second menu list with the controller while the second menu list is displayed, andnavigating through the plurality of menu items of the second menu list in the first direction of navigation when the controller determines rotation of the control dial in the initial direction while the second menu list is displayed. 40. The method of claim 31, wherein the control interface further comprises a button, and wherein the method further comprises instructing the display to display the first menu list with the controller in response to pressing the button, or in response to pressing the button and depressing the control dial. 41. The method of claim 29, further comprising assigning a second direction of navigation to a direction of rotation opposite the initial direction of rotation when the controller determines the initial direction of rotation of the control dial, the second direction of navigation being opposite the first direction of navigation.
