An apparatus for applying sealant to a target tissue of a surgical site is provided. The apparatus includes a handle, conduit and an end effector. The handle has means configured and adapted for operating the end effector and dispensing biological sealant to the surgical site via the end effector. The conduit stores and/or carries sealant towards the end effector. The end effector is configured to clamp around a body organ or tissue and apply and confine biological sealant in a substantially uniform manner thereto.

1. An apparatus for applying sealant to a target tissue site, the apparatus comprising: a handle member including an operating mechanism and a first reservoir having a first sealant therein;a shaft extending distally from the handle member and defining a longitudinal axis; andan end effector positioned at a distal end of the shaft, the end effector including a first jaw and a second jaw, the end effector having an open position, where a distal end of the first jaw is spaced apart from a distal end of the second jaw, and a closed position, where the distal end of the first jaw is engaged with the distal end of the second jaw;wherein the operating mechanism of the handle member has a neutral position and an actuated position, when the operating mechanism moves from the neutral position to the actuated position, the first sealant is pushed from the first reservoir through the shaft and dispensed from a channel extending around at least one of the first jaw and the second jaw. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the operating mechanism is one of a group consisting of a trigger, a slider, a button, and a switch. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the shaft includes a first conduit in fluid communication with the first reservoir and the channel. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the handle member includes a second reservoir having a second sealant therein, the shaft including a second conduit in fluid communication with the second reservoir and the channel. 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the first sealant is a first part and the second sealant is a second part of a two-part sealant. 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the two-part sealant is configured to cure in the channel. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first jaw and the second jaw each have an arcuate shape with respect to the longitudinal axis. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the arcuate shape of the first jaw and the second jaw define the opening therebetween, the opening being a transverse opening having a center for receiving target tissue. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each of the first jaw member and the second jaw member is planar with respect to the longitudinal axis. 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second jaws are rigid. 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second jaws are deformable. 12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first jaw is rigid and the second jaw is deformable. 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first jaw and the second jaw comprises a side wall for confining sealant. 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the side wall includes elements for increasing friction between the side wall and tissue. 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the elements for increasing friction are pins. 16. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein at least one of the side walls is rigid. 17. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein at least one of the side walls is flexible.
