초록

A hybrid vehicle system facilitates operator control over electric power generation and use. The system features a motor/generator that can be mounted to an output of a transmission of the vehicle.

1. A control actuator for a vehicle hybrid system, the control actuator comprising a control knob, the control knob comprising a grip and a body that is positioned within at least a portion of the grip, the body comprising a cavity, the cavity being substantially closed by a base, a potentiometer being positioned within the cavity and being secured to the base, a shaft of the potentiometer extending upward relative to the base, and the shaft of the potentiometer being rotatable about an axis of movement. 2. The control actuator of claim 1, wherein a lower portion of the body comprises a laterally extending opening, the laterally extending opening being at least partially threaded, the laterally extending opening intersecting a generally vertically extending opening and a threaded member being received within the laterally extending opening and having a length that is longer than a length of the laterally extending opening. 3. The control actuator of claim 2, wherein the threaded member comprises a head and the grip comprises a passageway in which the head is positioned, the passageway extending in a limited sweep about the axis of movement of the shaft of the potentiometer such that the head and the passageway cooperate to limit a sweep of the grip about the axis. 4. The control actuator of claim 3, wherein the grip comprises an opening generally diametrically opposed from a center point of the passageway in the rotational direction and wherein a biased detent member is positioned within a bore formed in the base such that the detent member and the opening cooperate to provide tactile feedback of a rotational orientation of the grip relative to the base. 5. The control actuator of claim 4, wherein the grip comprises a throughbore that receives a portion of a pin, the pin being secured to the shaft of the potentiometer for rotation with the shaft of the potentiometer. 6. A control actuator for a vehicle hybrid system, the control actuator comprising a control knob, the control knob comprising a housing and a handle that can pivot relative to a body about an axis, the body defining at least a portion of a cavity within the control knob, a potentiometer being positioned within the cavity and being coupled to the control actuator to provide an output signal dependent upon a position of the handle, wherein the body and the handle have a rotation limiting structure, the rotation limiting structure comprising a channel formed in the handle and a post secured to the body, the rotation limiting structure limiting a range of relative movement between the body and the handle. 7. The control actuator of claim 6, wherein the control knob is installed on a gear shift lever. 8. The control actuator of claim 7, wherein the body of the control knob is connected to the gear shift lever such that the body does not substantially rotate relative to the gear shift lever. 9. The control actuator of claim 7, wherein the body of the control knob and the gear shift lever are connected by a threaded connection. 10. The control actuator of claim 7, wherein the gear shift lever is movable in a first and second direction and the control knob is movable in a third and fourth direction. 11. The control actuator of claim 6, wherein the control knob is movable from a neutral position and spring biased to return to the neutral position. 12. The control actuator of claim 11, wherein a torsion spring is used to bias the control knob to the neutral position. 13. The control actuator of claim 12, wherein a first portion of the torsion spring is connected to the control knob and a second portion of the torsion spring is connected to the body. 14. The control actuator of claim 6, wherein the cavity is generally cylindrical with an axis that generally aligns with the axis about which the housing and handle rotates. 15. The control actuator of claim 6, wherein a detent assembly is positioned between the body and the handle. 16. The control actuator of claim 15, wherein the detent assembly comprises a bore defined in the body, the handle comprises at least one recess or hole and a ball can be positioned between the bore and the at least one recess or hole.
