A flexible spinal fixation device for spinal stabilization of a spinal segment comprising at least a first vertebra and a second vertebra, comprising: a first pedicle screw including a first rod-receiving channel;a second pedicle screw including a second rod-receiving channel; anda flexible fixation rod comprising:a first rigid end portion having a first longitudinal channel, the first rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the first rigid end portion is receivable within the first rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the first rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the first rod-receiving channel;a second rigid end portion having a second longitudinal channel, the second rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the second rigid end portion is receivable within the second rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the second rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the second rod-receiving channel;a flexible wire extending through at least a portion of the first and second longitudinal channels and flexibly linking the first and second end portions; the first rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the first end portion being received within the first rod-receiving channel of the first pedicle screw, the spinal fixation device is configured and adapted to permit movement of the first vertebra relative to the second vertebra when in use on the spinal segment; anda central portion located between the first and second rigid end portions and having a central longitudinal channel, wherein the flexible wire extends through the central longitudinal channel,wherein the first and second end portions have the same shape as the central portion; andwherein the central portion is flexible. 2. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 1, wherein the flexible fixation rod is formed in a pre-bent configuration along its longitudinal axis. 3. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 1, wherein a first end of the flexible wire has a stop member coupled thereto for preventing the first rigid end portion from sliding off the first end. 4. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 3, wherein the stop member comprises a clip. 5. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 3, wherein the stop member comprises a tubular cylinder crimped around the flexible member. 6. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 1, wherein the second rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the second rigid end portion being mounted within the second rod-receiving channel of the second pedicle screw. 7. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 1, wherein the first rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire via one of pressing or welding. 8. A flexible spinal fixation device for spinal stabilization of a spinal segment comprising at least a first vertebra and a second vertebra, comprising: a first pedicle screw including a first rod-receiving channel;a second pedicle screw including a second rod-receiving channel; anda flexible fixation rod comprising:a first rigid end portion having a first longitudinal channel, the first rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the first rigid end portion is receivable within the first rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the first rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the first rod-receiving channel;a second rigid end portion having a second longitudinal channel, the second rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the second rigid end portion is receivable within the second rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the second rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the second rod-receiving channel;a flexible wire extending through at least a portion of the first and second longitudinal channels and flexibly linking the first and second end portions; the first rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the first end portion being received within the first rod-receiving channel of the first pedicle screw, the spinal fixation device is configured and adapted to permit movement of the first vertebra relative to the second vertebra when in use on the spinal segment; anda central portion located between the first and second rigid end portions and having a central longitudinal channel, wherein the flexible wire extends through the central longitudinal channel,wherein the central portion is flexible. 9. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 8, wherein the flexible wire comprises a wire having a plurality of metal yarns. 10. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 8, wherein the flexible wire comprises a braided metal wire. 11. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 8, wherein the central portion comprises a metal spacer. 12. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 8, wherein the first and second end portions have the same shape as the central portion. 13. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 8, wherein the central portion comprises a flexible cylindrical body. 14. The flexible spinal fixation device of claim 13, wherein the cylindrical body encases the flexible wire. 15. A flexible spinal fixation device for spinal stabilization of a spinal segment comprising at least a first vertebra and a second vertebra, comprising: a first pedicle screw including a first rod-receiving channel;a second pedicle screw including a second rod-receiving channel; anda flexible fixation rod comprising:a first rigid end portion having a first longitudinal channel, the first rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the first rigid end portion is receivable within the first rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the first rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the first rod-receiving channel;a second rigid end portion having a second longitudinal channel, the second rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the second rigid end portion is receivable within the second rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the second rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the second rod-receiving channel; anda flexible wire extending through at least a portion of the first and second longitudinal channels and flexibly linking the first and second end portions; the first rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the first end portion being received within the first rod-receiving channel of the first pedicle screw, the spinal fixation device is configured and adapted to permit movement of the first vertebra relative to the second vertebra when in use on the spinal segment;wherein the second rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the second rigid end portion being mounted within the second rod-receiving channel of the second pedicle screw, andwherein the flexible spinal fixation device further comprises a plurality of spacers, each spacer located between the first rigid end portion and the second rigid end portion and each spacer circumferentially disposed about the flexible wire, and each spacer comprising a male interlocking member and a female interlocking cavity, the male interlocking member configured to structurally interlock with the female interlocking cavity. 16. A flexible spinal fixation device for spinal stabilization of a spinal segment comprising at least a first vertebra and a second vertebra, comprising: a first pedicle screw including a first rod-receiving channel;a second pedicle screw including a second rod-receiving channel; anda flexible fixation rod comprising:a first rigid end portion having a first longitudinal channel, the first rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the first rigid end portion is receivable within the first rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the first rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the first rod-receiving channel;a second rigid end portion having a second longitudinal channel, the second rigid end portion being circular or cylindrical and having an outer circumference wherein the second rigid end portion is receivable within the second rod-receiving channel, the outer circumference of the second rigid end portion being entirely receivable within the second rod-receiving channel; anda flexible wire extending through at least a portion of the first and second longitudinal channels and flexibly linking the first and second end portions; the first rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the first end portion being received within the first rod-receiving channel of the first pedicle screw, the spinal fixation device is configured and adapted to permit movement of the first vertebra relative to the second vertebra when in use on the spinal segment;wherein the second rigid end portion is permanently affixed to the flexible wire prior to the second rigid end portion being mounted within the second rod-receiving channel of the second pedicle screw;further comprising a central portion located between the first and second end portions and having a central longitudinal channel, wherein the flexible wire extends through the central longitudinal channel and further wherein the central portion is flexible.
