A welding apparatus, comprising a welding unit for welding a closing film to an edge zone of at least one containing cavity surrounded by said edge zone and being formed from a thermoformable sheet by a forming apparatus upstream of said welding unit;a control unit connected with said welding unit for selectively processing a continuous strip of said containing cavities or discrete groups of said containing cavities;a selecting device connected with said control unit for selecting a first operating condition of said welding unit for processing said continuous strip of containing cavities and a second operating condition of said welding unit for processing discrete groups of said containing cavities;a connecting device for connecting said control unit with a control unit of said forming apparatus and/or with a control unit of a separating apparatus arranged downstream of said welding unit; anda cutting unit connected with said welding unit for removing a portion of said closing film, whereby after said closing film has been welded along said edge zone to a sheet material in which said container cavity is formed, a zone of said sheet material remains uncovered by said closing film. 2. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said cutting unit comprises at least a shearing member for removing said portion from said closing film by shearing. 3. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said cutting unit is positioned upstream of said welding unit. 4. Apparatus according to claim 1, and further comprising a supply device for supplying said closing film in a supply direction via said cutting unit. 5. Apparatus according to claim 4, and further comprising an adjusting device for regulating the position of said cutting unit along said supply direction. 6. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said connecting device is selected from a group comprising: an Ethernet network, a LAN network, a wireless connection. 7. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said control unit comprises a synchronising device that is activated when said apparatus processes said continuous strip, for synchronising said welding unit with at least one of said forming apparatus and with said separating apparatus. 8. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said control unit is programmed to exchange with at least one of the control unit of said forming apparatus and with the control unit of said separating apparatus diagnostic information relating to possible fault conditions that occur in the corresponding apparatus, when said apparatus processes said continuous strip. 9. Apparatus according to claim 1, and further comprising a reporting device to report information on the operating status of said welding apparatus. 10. Apparatus according to claim 9, wherein said reporting device comprises a screen, said control unit being programmed to display messages on said screen relating to possible fault conditions that occur in said welding unit, in said forming apparatus and in said separating apparatus, when said welding apparatus processes said continuous strip. 11. Apparatus according to claim 1, and further comprising at least one control pushbutton that activated by an operator to stop or start said apparatus. 12. Apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said control unit is programmed so that, when said welding apparatus processes said continuous strip, activating said control pushbutton stops or starts at least one of said forming apparatus and said separating apparatus. 13. Apparatus according to claim 11, and further comprising a reporting device to report information on the operating status of said welding apparatus and wherein said reporting device comprises at least a pilot lamp included in said at least one control pushbutton. 14. Apparatus according to claim 1, and further comprising a sensor element that is activated when said welding unit is operated to process a discrete group of containing cavities in order to check whether a subsequent discrete group of containing cavities is present in a preset position upstream of said welding unit. 15. Apparatus according to claim 14, wherein said sensor element is arranged upstream of said welding unit along a path of a conveying arrangement suitable for conveying said discrete groups to said welding unit. 16. Apparatus according to claim 15, wherein said path includes a first portion that reaches said welding unit and extends along a conveying direction and a second portion that extends along an inlet direction transversely to said conveying direction. 17. Apparatus according to claim 16, wherein said second portion is substantially perpendicular to said first portion. 18. Apparatus according to claim 16, wherein said sensor element is positioned in an intersecting zone wherein said second portion intersects said first portion. 19. Apparatus according to claim 16, wherein said conveying arrangement comprises an inlet conveyor for conveying said discrete groups along said path second portion. 20. Apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said inlet conveyor has a dimension, measured perpendicularly to said inlet direction, that is substantially equal to a larger dimension of said discrete groups. 21. Apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said inlet conveyor is externally provided with a plurality of dividing elements and a housing between two consecutive dividing elements for receiving a single discrete group. 22. Apparatus according to claim 21, wherein said housing has a main dimension arranged perpendicularly to said inlet direction and a secondary dimension arranged parallel to said inlet direction, said secondary dimension being less than said main dimension.
