A mobile device and method to utilize the failover mechanism for fault tolerance provided for mobile traffic management are disclosed. One embodiment includes a method, which may be implemented on a system or a mobile device which responsive to detecting a failed attempt to connect to a proxy server, determines whether the proxy server is reachable. In one embodiment, in response to determining that the proxy server is reachable, initiates a failover process by reconfiguring DNS routing rules.

A method for utilizing failover mechanisms for fault tolerance of a mobile traffic management service, the method comprising: responsive to detecting, at a mobile device, a failed attempt to connect to a first redundant machine in a proxy server for providing mobile traffic management service tha
1. A method for utilizing failover mechanisms for fault tolerance of a mobile traffic management service, the method comprising: responsive to detecting, at a mobile device, a failed attempt to connect to a first redundant machine in a proxy server for providing mobile traffic management service that includes optimization of traffic to and from the mobile device, the proxy server is a single entity that resides in a computer and including redundant clustered machines that share a common repository for storing subscription information for mobile devices, determining whether the proxy server is reachable; andin response to determining that the proxy server is reachable, initiating, from a mobile device, a failover process by reconfiguring the mobile device's DNS routing rules to direct the mobile device to connect to a second redundant machine in the proxy server, wherein the second redundant machine uses the subscriber information that was stored in the common repository by the first redundant machine. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein, the failed attempt is detected by a local proxy on the mobile device remotely coupled to the proxy server; wherein, the failed attempt is a failed attempt to connect to the proxy server by the mobile device. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein, the proxy server is determined to be reachable or unreachable by the mobile device which attempts to connect to proxy server, using a status of an active network connection at the mobile device. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein, the status of the active network connection is determined by a mobile operating system of the mobile device. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein, the reconfiguring the DNS routing rules includes de-configuring the DNS routing rules. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein, the reconfiguring the DNS routing rules includes restoring original DNS properties. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein, the reconfiguring the DNS routing rules includes restoring original DNS properties using DNS values determined from a native operating system of the mobile device. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein, the failover process is terminated in response to establishing a connection with the host server. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein, the failover process is terminated at expiration of a timer. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein, the traffic management service includes background and foreground traffic management on the mobile device. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein, the traffic management service includes mobile device resource management and network resource management. 12. A mobile device which utilizes failover mechanisms for fault tolerance of resource management service, the mobile device comprising: a processor coupled to a memory unit;the memory unit having instructions stored thereon, which when executed by the processor, causes the processor to:responsive to detecting, at a mobile device, a failed attempt to connect to a first redundant machine in a proxy server for providing mobile traffic management service that includes optimization of traffic to and from the mobile device, the proxy server is a single entity that resides in a computer and including redundant clustered machines that share a common repository for storing subscription information for mobile devices, determining whether the proxy server is reachable; andin response to determining that the proxy server is reachable, initiating a failover process by reconfiguring the mobile device's DNS routing rules to direct the mobile device to connect to a second redundant machine in the proxy server, wherein the second redundant machine uses the subscriber information that was stored in the common repository by the first redundant machine. 13. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the reconfiguring the DNS routing rules includes de-configuring the DNS routing rules. 14. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the reconfiguring the DNS routing rules includes restoring original DNS properties using valid DNS values determined from a native operating system of the mobile device. 15. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein, the valid DNS values include Android DNS1 and DNS2 properties. 16. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the reconfiguring the DNS routing rules includes restoring original DNS properties. 17. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the failed attempt is detected by a local proxy on a mobile device remotely coupled to the proxy server; wherein, the failed attempt is a failed attempt to connect to the proxy server by the mobile device. 18. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the proxy server is determined to be reachable or unreachable by a mobile device which attempts to connect to the proxy server, using a status of an active network connection at the mobile device. 19. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein, the status of the active network connection is determined by a mobile operating system of the mobile device. 20. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the resource management service includes background and foreground traffic management on the mobile device. 21. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, the resource management service includes battery life management for the mobile device.
