A system and method for automatically providing content associated with captured information is described. In some examples, the system receives input by a user, and automatically provides content or links to content associated with the input. In some examples, the system receives input via text entry or by capturing text from a rendered document, such as a printed document, an object, an audio stream, and so on.
1. A method comprising: receiving text at a first computing device;selecting, by the first computing device, a portion of the received text absent user interaction with the portion of the received text;forming a query based at least in part upon the selected portion of the received text, wherein the
1. A method comprising: receiving text at a first computing device;selecting, by the first computing device, a portion of the received text absent user interaction with the portion of the received text;forming a query based at least in part upon the selected portion of the received text, wherein the query includes a first portion that is associated with the selected portion of the text;selecting, from among multiple different indexes, at least one index to search based on the query;transmitting, by the first computing device, the query to at least one of one or more second computing devices based at least in part on the selected index;receiving information relevant to the query from at least one of the one or more second computing devices; anddisplaying, by the computing device, the relevant information. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the portion of text comprises text from an image optically captured by the first computing device. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein: selecting a portion of the text comprises optically capturing text printed on a rendered document; andforming the query comprises: identifying the rendered document from the captured text; andforming the query based at least in part on the identified rendered document. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting at least one index comprises selecting one or more dynamic content sources that provide content created during or after the receiving the text, including content within social networks. 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the dynamic content sources include one or more data streams of user-generated content. 6. The method of claim 4, further comprising: receiving an indication of a selected electronic content source; andin response to the received indication of the selected electronic content source, providing content from the selected electronic content source. 7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium whose contents, when executed by a first computing device, cause the first computing device to perform operations comprising: receiving text;selecting a portion of the received text;forming a query based at least in part upon the selected portion of the received text, wherein the query includes a first portion that is associated with the selected portion of the text;selecting, from among multiple different indexes, at least one index to search based on the query;transmitting the query to at least one of one or more second computing devices based at least in part on the selected index;receiving information relevant to the query from at least one of the one or more second computing devices; anddisplaying the relevant information. 8. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein the portion of text comprises text from an image optically captured by the first computing device. 9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein: selecting a portion of the text comprises optically capturing text printed on a rendered document; andforming the query comprises: identifying the rendered document from the captured text; andforming the query based at least in part on the identified rendered document. 10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein selecting at least one index comprises selecting one or more dynamic content sources that provide content created during or after the receiving the text, including content within social networks. 11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the dynamic content sources include one or more data streams of user-generated content. 12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim, 10, wherein execution of the contents further cause the first computing device to perform operations comprising: receiving an indication of a selected electronic content source; andin response to the received indication of the selected electronic content source, providing content from the selected electronic content source. 13. A system comprising: a text analysis component, including one or more processors, that receives text and selects a portion of the received text absent user interaction with the portion of the received text; anda query generation component, including one or more processors, that interacts with the text analysis component and executes instructions that cause the query generation component to perform operations comprising: forming a query based at least in part upon the selected portion of the received text, wherein the query includes a first portion that is associated with the selected portion of the text; andselecting, from among multiple different indexes, at least one index to search based on the query;a communications and routing component that interacts with the query generation component and executes instructions that cause the query generation component to perform operations comprising: transmitting the query to at least one of one or more second computing devices based at least in part on the selected index; andreceiving information relevant to the query from at least one of the one or more second computing devices; anda user interface that interacts with the communications and routing component and displays the relevant information. 14. The system of claim 13, wherein: selecting a portion of the text comprises optically capturing text printed on a rendered document; andforming the query comprises: identifying the rendered document from the captured text; andforming the query based at least in part on the identified rendered document. 15. The system of claim 13, wherein wherein selecting at least one index comprises selecting one or more dynamic content sources that provide content created during or after the portion of text is received, including content within social networks. 16. The system of claim 15, wherein the dynamic content sources include one or more data streams of user-generated content.
