A method of dispensing adhesive onto a stretched elastic strand includes applying a first volume of adhesive onto a first portion of the elastic strand, applying a second volume of adhesive onto a second portion of the elastic strand, and applying a third volume of adhesive onto a third portion of the elastic strand. The second volume is less than the first and third volumes. When the elastic strand is adhered to a substrate to form a personal disposable hygiene product, the first and third portions of the elastic strand define opposing ends of the elastic strand, which are adhered with a larger amount of adhesive to resist creep at the opposing ends. The reduction of adhesive in the second or central portion between the opposing ends significantly reduces the adhesive add on in the personal disposable hygiene product.

A method of dispensing adhesive onto a stretched elastic strand during the manufacturing of personal disposable hygiene products, the method comprising: moving the stretched elastic strand in a machine direction;applying a first volume of adhesive onto a first portion of the elastic strand;applying a second volume of adhesive onto a second portion of the elastic strand located downstream from the first portion of the elastic strand relative to the machine direction;applying a third volume of adhesive onto a third portion of the elastic strand located downstream from the second portion of the elastic strand relative to the machine direction, wherein the second volume of adhesive is less than each of the first volume of adhesive and the third volume of adhesive;contacting the stretched elastic strand having the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive thereon with first and second substrate layers to adhesively secure the stretched elastic strand between the first and second substrate layers and to form a bond therebetween; andreleasing the stretched elastic strand to allow the elastic strand to retract from its stretched condition, thereby collectively defining an elasticized portion of the hygiene product with the first and second substrate layers;wherein the first and third portions of the elastic strand defining opposing ends of the elastic strand when secured between the first and second substrate layers, and the second portion of the elastic strand defining a central portion of the elastic strand extending between the opposing ends when secured between the first and second substrate layers; andwherein the first and third portions of the elastic strand collectively define a first length and the second portion of the elastic strand defines a second length larger than the first length such that the second volume of adhesive is applied over a majority of the elastic strand, which results in the first and third volumes of adhesive being sufficient to limit movement of the opposing ends of the elastic strand while maintaining the bond and the second volume of adhesive being sufficiently low to allow the elastic strand to retract from its stretched condition. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the elastic strand further comprises: dispensing a first quantity of adhesive onto the first and third portions of the elastic strand; anddispensing a second quantity of adhesive onto the second portion of the elastic strand,wherein the first quantity of adhesive defines the first volume of adhesive on the first portion of the elastic strand and the third volume of adhesive on the third portion of the elastic strand, and the second quantity of adhesive defines the second volume of adhesive on the second portion of the elastic strand. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first quantity of adhesive is dispensed by a first dispensing nozzle, the second quantity of adhesive is dispensed by a second dispensing nozzle, and the method further comprises: pumping adhesive at an adjustable first flow rate to the first dispensing nozzle; andpumping adhesive at an adjustable second flow rate to the second dispensing nozzle. 4. The method of claim 2, wherein the first quantity of adhesive is dispensed by a first dispensing nozzle, the second quantity of adhesive is dispensed by a second dispensing nozzle, and the method further comprises: pumping adhesive at a predetermined flow rate to each of the first and second dispensing nozzles. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the elastic strand further comprises: dispensing a first quantity of adhesive onto the first and third portions of the elastic strand; anddispensing a second quantity of adhesive onto the first, second, and third portions of the elastic strand,wherein the second quantity of adhesive defines the second volume of adhesive on the second portion of the elastic strand, the first and second quantities of adhesive collectively define the first volume of adhesive on the first portion of the elastic strand, and the first and second quantities of adhesive collectively define the third volume of adhesive on the third portion of the elastic strand. 6. The method of claim 5, wherein dispensing the first and second quantities of adhesive further comprises: dispensing the first and second quantities of adhesive simultaneously onto the first portion of the elastic strand, then dispensing the second quantity of adhesive onto the second portion of the elastic strand, and then dispensing the first and second quantities of adhesive simultaneously onto the third portion of the elastic strand. 7. The method of claim 5, wherein dispensing the first and second quantities of adhesive further comprises: dispensing the first quantity of adhesive onto the elastic strand before or after dispensing the second quantity of adhesive onto the elastic strand. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive are dispensed by a single dispensing nozzle including first and second valves controlling flow from corresponding first and second adhesive supplies, and wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the elastic strand further comprises: opening the first and second valves to apply the first volume of adhesive to the first portion of the elastic strand;closing the second valve while leaving the first valve open to apply the second volume of adhesive to the second portion of the elastic strand; andopening the first and second valves to apply the third volume of adhesive to the third portion of the elastic strand. 9. The method of claim 8, wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the elastic strand further comprises: pumping adhesive at an adjustable first flow rate to the first valve; andpumping adhesive at an adjustable second flow rate to the second valve. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive are dispensed by a single dispensing nozzle including a dispensing outlet and first and second valves controlling the adhesive flow, and the first and second valves are located within the single dispensing nozzle such that when one or both of the first and second valves is closed, adhesive flow is stopped at a location proximate to the dispensing outlet. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and third volumes produce a coating of adhesive on the elastic strands of about 0.2 grams per meter, and wherein the second volume produces a coating of adhesive on the elastic strands of about 0.1 gram per meter. 12. A method of dispensing adhesive onto a plurality of stretched elastic strands during the manufacturing of personal disposable hygiene products, the method comprising: moving each of the plurality of stretched elastic strands in a machine direction;applying a first volume of adhesive onto a first portion of each of the elastic strands;applying a second volume of adhesive onto a second portion of each of the elastic strands located downstream from the first portion of the elastic strands relative to the machine direction;applying a third volume of adhesive onto a third portion of each of the elastic strands located downstream from the second portion of the elastic strands relative to the machine direction, wherein the second volume of adhesive is less than each of the first volume of adhesive and the third volume of adhesive;contacting the stretched elastic strands having the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive thereon with first and second substrate layers to adhesively secure the stretched elastic strands between the first and second substrate layers and to form a bond therebetween; andreleasing the stretched elastic strands to allow the elastic strands to retract from their stretched condition, thereby collectively defining an elasticized portion of the hygiene product with the first and second substrate layers;wherein the first and third portions of the elastic strands defining opposing ends of the elastic strands when secured between the first and second substrate layers, and the second portion of the elastic strands defining a central portion of the elastic strands extending between the opposing ends when secured between the first and second substrate layers; andwherein the first and third portions of the elastic strands collectively define a first length and the second portion of the elastic strands defines a second length larger than the first length such that the second volume of adhesive is applied over a majority of the elastic strands, which results in the first and third volumes of adhesive being sufficient to limit movement of the opposing ends of the elastic strands while maintaining the bond and the second volume of adhesive being sufficiently low to allow the elastic strands to retract from its stretched condition. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the plurality of elastic strands further comprises: dispensing at least one quantity of adhesive individually onto each of the plurality of elastic strands. 14. The method of claim 12, wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the plurality of elastic strands further comprises: dispensing at least one quantity of adhesive collectively onto all of the plurality of elastic strands. 15. The method of claim 14, wherein applying the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive to the plurality of elastic strands further comprises: dispensing at least one quantity of adhesive individually onto each of the plurality of elastic strands. 16. The method of claim 12, wherein the first and third volumes produce a coating of adhesive on the elastic strands of about 0.2 grams per meter, and wherein the second volume produces a coating of adhesive on the elastic strands of about 0.1 gram per meter. 17. The method of claim 12, wherein the first, second, and third volumes of adhesive are dispensed onto each of the plurality of stretched elastic strands by a single dispensing nozzle including a dispensing outlet and first and second valves controlling the adhesive flow, and the first and second valves are located within the single dispensing nozzle such that when one or both of the first and second valves is closed, adhesive flow is stopped at a location proximate to the dispensing outlet.
