The nasal cushion according to claim 1, wherein the length of each flap or extending portion is about 15-25 mm. 5. The nasal cushion according to claim 1, wherein the length of each flap or extending portion is about 18-23 mm. 6. The nasal cushion according to claim 1, wherein the length of each flap or extending portion is about 20 mm. 7. The nasal cushion according to claim 12, wherein the sickle-shaped cross-section is provided in the upper lip, side of nose, and corner of nose regions of the cushion. 14. The nasal cushion according to claim 12, wherein the sickle-shaped cross-section includes a base portion and an upper portion that is radially offset towards the outside of the base portion. 15. The nasal cushion according to claim 1, wherein the cushion includes no undercushion above each flap or extending portion to the apex of the cushion. 16. The nasal cushion according to claim 1, wherein the membrane and the undercushion include a gap therebetween that varies in different regions of the cushion. 17. The nasal cushion according to claim 1, wherein the side wall, the undercushion and the membrane provide a face-contacting portion of the cushion, and the cushion further comprises a non-face contacting portion providing a breathing chamber forming portion defining the breathing chamber. 18. The nasal cushion according to claim 17, wherein the breathing chamber forming portion defines at least a portion of a front side of the mask system and the face-contacting portion defines at least a portion of a rear side of the mask system, the breathing chamber forming portion, when provided to a frame, forms an exterior surface exposed at the front side of the mask system. 19. The nasal cushion according to claim 17, wherein face-contacting portion and the non-face contacting portion are formed as a single component. 20. The nasal cushion according to claim 22, wherein the gap at its narrowest point is about 15-25 mm. 24. The nasal cushion according to claim 22, wherein the gap at its narrowest point is about 18-20 mm. 25.
