The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said wall comprises relatively structurally weakened areas disposed in said wall in a preselected pattern. 4. The pyrotechnic device of claim 3, wherein said weakened areas comprise at least one of slits, perforations, indentations, and a different material than said wall, said weakened areas extending at least partially through said wall. 5. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said combustible powder comprises potassium nitrate (KNO3), carbon and sulfur. 6. The pyrotechnic device of claim 5, wherein said carbon comprises charcoal. 7. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said combustible powder comprises black powder. 8. The pyrotechnic device of claim 7, wherein said combustible powder has a particle size of about 0.1 mm to about 8 mm. 9. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said predetermined pressure is between about 100 psi and about 800 psi. 10. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said predetermined pressure is between about 250 psi and about 550 psi. 11. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said predetermined amount of the free space volume has a volume ratio with respect to the combustion chamber of about 1:1 to about 20:1. 12. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, further comprising a combustible material proximate an exterior surface of said combustion chamber. 13. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said combustible material comprises at least one of nitrocellulose and smokeless powder. 14. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said combustion chamber comprises one or more materials selected from the group consisting of paper, fiberboard, plastic, resin, fiber-filled resin, steel, stainless steel, brass, iron, cast iron, and aluminum. 15. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said projectile is supported by a support structure extending above said combustion chamber. 16. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said combustion chamber is at least partially filled with said combustible powder. 17. The pyrotechnic device of claim 16, wherein said combustion chamber is partially filled with said combustible powder from about zero up to about 80 percent of a total volume of said combustion chamber. 18. The pyrotechnic device of claim 3, wherein said preselected pattern comprises a petal leaf pattern. 19. The pyrotechnic device of claim 3, wherein at least a portion of said preselected pattern extends longitudinally with respect a longitudinal axis of said combustion chamber. 20. The pyrotechnic device of claim 1, wherein said combustible powder comprises grains having a particle size of from about 0.1 mm to about 8 mm. 21. A pyrotechnic device comprising: a combustion chamber comprising a wall, said combustion chamber encapsulating a combustible powder having a grain size of about 0.1 mm to about 8 mm;an ignition source adapted to ignite said combustible powder within said combustion chamber;wherein said wall of said combustion chamber is configured to burst at a predetermined pressure caused by combustion of said combustible powder;wherein said combustion chamber is disposed beneath a projectile within a launch structure to provide a predetermined amount of free space volume disposed below said projectile and immediately adjacently surrounding a full length of said combustion chamber, said free space volume configured to receive hot gases radially emanating from said bursting combustion chamber, said free space volume defined by walls and a closed bottom of the launch structure, said free space volume greater than or equal to a volume of said combustion chamber. 22. The pyrotechnic device of claim 21, further comprising said combustion chamber and said firework projectile disposed within and surrounded by a launch structure. 23. The pyrotechnic device of claim 21, wherein said wall comprises relatively structurally weakened areas disposed in said wall in a preselected pattern. 24. A pyrotechnic device comprising: a combustion chamber comprising a wall, said combustion chamber encapsulating a combustible powder having a preselected grain size;an ignition source adapted to ignite said combustible powder within said combustion chamber;wherein said wall of said combustion chamber is configured to burst at a predetermined pressure caused by combustion of said combustible powder, said combustion chamber comprising relatively structurally weakened areas disposed in said wall in a preselected pattern;wherein said combustion chamber is disposed beneath a projectile within a launch structure to provide a predetermined amount of free space volume disposed below said projectile, said free space volume comprising a volume below and immediately adjacently surrounding a full length of said combustion chamber, said free space volume configured to receive hot gases radially emanating from said bursting combustion chamber, said free space volume defined by walls and a closed bottom of the launch structure, said free space volume greater than or equal to a volume of said combustion chamber.
