A method for manufacturing floor panels, said panels comprising a top side, an underside, a first pair of opposite edges formed by a first edge and a second edge, and a second pair of opposite edges formed by a third edge and a fourth edge, wherein such panel at the first edge is provided with a first retaining profile having a first hook directed to the top side;wherein said panel at the second edge is provided with a second retaining profile with a second hook directed to the underside, said first and second retaining profiles being configured such that two of such panels can be connected to each other by a relative downward movement of one panel with its second edge in regard to the first edge of the other panel, and such that the first and second hooks in the connected state of the retaining profiles provide for a positive fit in a direction parallel to a plane of laying;wherein the panel at the respective first edge is provided with a separate clip, said clip being capable to provide a positive fit in the connected state of two of such panels in a direction perpendicular to said plane of laying;wherein the panel at the second edge is provided with a locking groove, for receiving a portion of such clip when coupling two of such panels;wherein the first edge is provided with a groove for receiving said separate clip;wherein the clip is inserted into said groove via a translational substantially rectilinear movement according to a direction that is inclined with respect to the top side of the panel; andwherein said rectilinear movement extends from a position wherein said clip is located outside of said panel to a position wherein said clip is positioned in said groove, wherein during the rectilinear movement an outer contour of the clip is spaced apart from the first hook. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said translational movement is carried out under an angle with the top side of the concerned panel, said angle assuming a value between approximately 20° and 50°. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said groove is provided in the first edge in an inclined position, with an inclination in respect to the top side of the panel that substantially corresponds to the inclination by which the clip is inserted in the panel. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the clip as a result of the insertion is clamped into the groove. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the clip is moved from said position wherein said clip is located outside of said panel to a said position wherein said clip is positioned in said groove in such a manner that the clip maintains the same orientation during its movement. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the clip is inserted into the groove to bring it in an intermediate position. 7. A method for manufacturing floor panels, said panels comprising a top side, an underside, a first pair of opposite edges formed by a first edge and a second edge, and a second pair of opposite edges formed by a third edge and a fourth edge, wherein such panel at the first edge is provided with a first retaining profile having a first hook directed to the top side;wherein said panel at the second edge is provided with a second retaining profile with a second hook directed to the underside, said first and second retaining profiles being configured such that two of such panels can be connected to each other by a relative downward movement of one panel with its second edge in regard to the the first edge of the other panel, and such that the first and second hooks in the connected state of the retaining profiles provide for a positive fit in a direction parallel to a plane of laying;wherein the panel at the respective first edge is provided with a separate clip, said clip being capable to provide a positive fit in the connected state of two of such panels in a direction perpendicular to said plane of laying;wherein the panel at the second edge is provided with a locking groove, for receiving a portion of such clip when coupling two of such panels;wherein the first edge is provided with a groove for receiving said separate clip, said groove being applied in an inclined manner with respect to the plane defined by the top side;wherein the clip is inserted into said groove by a movement which over the majority of its course is a rectilinear translational movement; andwherein said rectilinear movement extends from a position wherein said clip is located outside of said panel to a position wherein said clip is positioned in said groove, wherein during the rectilinear movement an outer contour of the clip is spaced apart from the first hook. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the clip as a result of the insertion is clamped into the groove.
