The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein in the first fold region, second fold region, third region and reinforced region are covered with granules. 3. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the three layered stack is positioned at one end of the shingle blank. 4. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the upper surface of the second fold region contacts the upper surface of the third region when in the three layered stack configuration. 5. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the reinforcement material is positioned on an upper surface of the shingle blank. 6. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the reinforcement material extends substantially across the length of the shingle blank. 7. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the reinforcement material is formed from a polymeric material. 8. The shingle blank of claim 7, wherein the reinforcement material is a polymeric film material. 9. The shingle blank of claim 8, wherein the reinforcement material is a polyester. 10. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the apertures in the reinforcement material have a circular shape and a diameter in a range of from about 400 microns to about 500 microns. 11. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the apertures in the reinforcement material are arranged in columns and rows. 12. The shingle blank of claim 1, further comprising a release tape positioned over the second perforation line and configured to span a portion of the first fold region and the second fold region, the release tape configured to reinforce the second perforation line. 13. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the first fold region, second fold region and the third region of the shingle blank have leading edges that are generally coplanar with one another when the first fold region, second fold region and the third region are in the three layered stack configuration. 14. The shingle blank of claim 1, wherein the plurality of apertures of the reinforcement material have a concentration of approximately 330 per square inch of reinforcement material. 15. A shingle blank comprising: a substrate coated with an asphalt coating and including a first fold region, a second fold region, a third region, a lower edge and an upper edge, the shingle blank having a height defined between the lower edge and upper edge and a length, the first fold region, second fold region and the third region each having an upper surface, the first fold region extending substantially across the length of the shingle blank, the second fold region extending substantially across the length of the shingle blank and positioned between the first fold region and the third region;a first perforation line positioned between the second fold region and the third region;a second perforation line positioned between the first fold region and the second fold region;a reinforcement material positioned over the first perforation line and configured to reinforce the first perforation line and to facilitate folding of the shingle blank at the first perforation line, the reinforcement material including a plurality of apertures that allow the asphalt coating to bleed through the reinforcement material and further comprising a plurality of granules located on the portion of the shingle blank where the asphalt coating has bled through the reinforcement material;a release tape positioned over the second perforation line and configured to span a portion of the first fold region and the second fold region, the release tape configured to reinforce the second perforation line;wherein each of the first fold region, second fold region and the third region have a height defined between a lower edge and upper edge and wherein the height of the third region is greater than each of the heights of the first fold region and second fold region;wherein the upper surface of the first fold region, second fold region and third region are covered with granules;wherein the first and second perforation lines are configured to facilitate folding of the first fold region and the second fold region on top of the third region to form a three layered stack configuration to be applied across a ridge or hip; andwherein the granule covered upper surface of the second fold region contacts the granule covered upper surface of the third region when in the three layered stack configuration. 16. The shingle blank of claim 15, wherein the shingle blank has a lower surface, wherein the release tape is positioned on the lower surface. 17. The shingle blank of claim 15, wherein the reinforcement material is formed from a polymeric material. 18. The shingle blank of claim 17, wherein the reinforcement material is a polymeric film material. 19. The shingle blank of claim 18, wherein the reinforcement material is a polyester. 20. The shingle blank of claim 15, wherein the first fold region, second fold region and the third region of the shingle blank having leading edges that are generally coplanar with one another when the first fold region, second fold region and the third region are in the three layered stack configuration. 21. A method of installing an asphalt-based roofing material, comprising the steps of: providing an asphalt-based shingle blank having a substrate coated with an asphalt coating and including a first fold region, a second fold region, a third region, a lower edge and an upper edge, the shingle blank having a height defined between the lower edge and upper edge and length, the first fold region, second fold region and the third region each having an upper surface, the first fold region extending substantially across the length of the shingle blank, the second fold region extending substantially across the length of the shingle blank and positioned between the first fold region and the third region, a first perforation line positioned between the second fold region and the third region, a second perforation line positioned between the first fold region and the second fold region, wherein at least one additional perforation line extends across the shingle blank in a direction substantially perpendicular to the lower edge of the shingle blank, a reinforcement material positioned over the first perforation line and configured to reinforce the first perforation line and to facilitate folding of the shingle blank at the first perforation line, the reinforcement material including a plurality of apertures that allow the asphalt coating to bleed through the reinforcement material, wherein a plurality of granules are located on the portion of the shingle blank where the asphalt coating has bled through the reinforcement material;separating the shingle blank along the at least one additional perforation line to form separated shingle blanks, each separated shingle blank having a first fold region, a second fold region and a third region, wherein the first fold region, second fold region and the third region each having a height defined between a lower edge and upper edge, and wherein the height of the third region is greater than each of the heights of the first fold region and second fold region;folding the separated shingle blanks along the first and second perforation lines to form a three layered stack configuration with the first fold region and the second fold region of the separated shingle blank on top of the third region and the upper surface of the second fold region contacting the upper surface of the third region when in the three layered stack configuration; andinstalling the hip and ridge shingles across a hip or ridge. 22. The method of claim 21, wherein the shingle blank has a lower surface, wherein a release tape is applied to a portion of the lower surface and positioned to cover the second perforation line and portions of the first and second fold regions. 23. The method of claim 21, wherein each of the first fold region, second fold region and the third region of the separated shingle blanks have a leading edge when in the three layered stack configuration and the leading edges are generally coplanar with one another when in the three layered stack configuration. 24. The method of claim 21, wherein the reinforcement material is a polymeric material. 25. The method of claim 24, wherein the reinforcement material is a polymeric film material. 26. The method of claim 25, wherein the reinforcement material is a polyester. 27. The method of claim 21, wherein the plurality of apertures of the reinforcement material have a concentration of approximately 330 per square inch of reinforcement material.
