A pre-chamber spark plug that includes a shell, and an end cap attached to the shell. Additionally, the pre-chamber spark plug includes an insulator disposed within the shell. In a particular embodiment, a center electrode has a first portion surrounded by the insulator, and a second portion that extends from the insulator into a pre-chamber. The pre-chamber defined by the shell and end cap. In a further embodiment, a ground electrode is attached to the shell. In particular embodiments, the ground electrode is tubular in shape and includes an inner spark surface ring spaced in surrounding relation to the center electrode to create a spark gap, an outer ring attached to the shell, and a plurality of rounded spokes connecting the inner and outer rings. In a particular embodiment, the ground and center electrodes accommodate attachment of precious metal alloys to increase electrode surface life.

The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein part of the tubular portion adjacent the center electrode comprises a layer comprising one of a platinum alloy, a rhodium alloy, or an iridium-rhodium alloy. 3. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein part of the tubular portion adjacent the center electrode comprises a layer comprising one of a tungsten alloy, an iridium alloy, or a nickel alloy. 4. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein a portion of the center electrode adjacent the tubular portion comprises a layer comprising one of a platinum alloy, a rhodium alloy, or an iridium-rhodium alloy. 5. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein a portion of the center electrode adjacent the tubular portion comprises a layer comprising one of a tungsten alloy, an iridium alloy, or a nickel alloy. 6. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein the ground electrode comprises: a plurality of spokes extending from the tubular portion and supporting the tubular portion relative to the pre-chamber housing, each of the plurality of spokes comprising a curved contour configured to facilitate a flow of gas through spaces between the spokes. 7. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein an end of the pre-chamber housing comprises a center port configured to direct a flow of air-fuel mixture into the tubular portion. 8. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 7, wherein the pre-chamber housing comprises a plurality of peripheral ports configured to cause a second flow of air-fuel mixture into the pre-chamber to swirl about the pre-chamber. 9. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 8, wherein the plurality of peripheral ports are angled such that each port has a longitudinal axis that is neither perpendicular nor parallel to a center longitudinal axis of the pre-chamber spark plug and does not intersect the center longitudinal axis of the pre-chamber spark plug. 10. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 7, where, upon ignition, a flame kernel is formed in the spark gap and the flow into the tubular portion transports the flame kernel backwards. 11. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 7, where the center electrode comprises an aerodynamic shape that directs a flow stream line from the center port through the spark gap. 12. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 8, where the tubular portion is configured to protect flow in the spark gap from disturbances from flow from the peripheral ports. 13. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein the ground electrode comprises: a plurality of spokes extending outward from the tubular portion, the spokes separating a front chamber of the pre-chamber from a back chamber of the pre-chamber; anda second tubular portion extending axially from a tip of the center electrode into the back chamber of the pre-chamber. 14. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 13, where the first mentioned tubular portion of the tubular ring extends into the front chamber of the pre-chamber. 15. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 13, where the ground electrode comprises an outer ring attached to the pre-chamber housing, and where the plurality of spokes connect the outer ring and the tubular portions. 16. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, wherein the pre-chamber housing comprises: a shell; andan end cap attached to the shell. 17. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, where the tubular portion is spaced from the pre-chamber housing to allow flow past the outside of the tubular portion. 18. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, where the electrode portion of the ground electrode comprises a solid tube. 19. The pre-chamber spark plug of claim 1, where the tubular portion is cylindrical. 20. A method of manufacturing a pre-chamber spark plug, the method comprising: inserting a center electrode partially within an insulator;attaching a ground electrode to a pre-chamber housing, the ground electrode disposed in surrounding relation to the center electrode, having a central opening therethrough with both ends of the central opening being open to the interior of the pre-chamber housing and having a tubular portion extending axially forward, beyond the ground electrode when the insulator is inserted inside of the pre-chamber housing; andassembling the pre-chamber housing to the insulator. 21. The method of claim 20, wherein attaching a ground electrode to the pre-chamber housing comprises either brazing or welding the ground electrode to the pre-chamber housing. 22. The method of claim 21, wherein attaching a ground electrode to the pre-chamber housing comprises attaching a ground electrode having a first electrode surface ring attached to an interior surface of a tubular inner ring, the first electrode surface ring having a plurality of spokes directed radially inward, the plurality of spokes terminating at a second electrode surface ring configured for attachment to the center electrode, wherein the plurality of spokes is removed after attachment of the second electrode surface ring to the center electrode. 23. The method of claim 20, wherein inserting a center electrode comprises inserting a center electrode made of a first metal which has a surface layer made of a second metal, the surface layer located on a portion of the center electrode proximate the ground electrode. 24. The method of claim 23, wherein the second metal comprises one of platinum, iridium, rhodium, and tungsten, or alloys thereof. 25. The method of claim 20, wherein attaching a ground electrode comprises attaching a ground electrode made of a first metal which has a surface layer made of a second metal, the surface layer located in the tubular portion proximate the center electrode. 26. The method of claim 25, wherein the second metal comprises one of platinum, iridium, rhodium, and tungsten, or alloys thereof. 27. The method of claim 25, wherein the second metal is constructed in the shape of an annulus, and the ground electrode is cast around the annulus. 28. The method of claim 25, wherein the second metal is constructed in the shape of an annulus, and then tack welded to an interior surface of the tubular inner ring. 29. The method of claim 28, further comprising fabricating the annulus by depositing the second metal onto an annular substrate of powdered metal. 30. The method of claim 21, wherein the pre-chamber housing comprises a cylindrical portion, and wherein inserting a center electrode comprises inserting a cylindrical center electrode. 31. A pre-chamber spark plug comprising: a pre-chamber housing defining an enclosed pre-chamber;an insulator at the back of the pre-chamber;a center electrode in the pre-chamber housing, the center electrode comprising a first portion surrounded by the insulator and a second portion that extends forward from the insulator into the pre-chamber; anda ground electrode in the pre-chamber housing, the ground electrode comprising: an electrode portion spaced in surrounding relation to the center electrode to define a spark gap between the ground electrode and the center electrode, a tubular portion extending axially forward, beyond the center electrode,a plurality of spokes extending outward from the tubular portion, the spokes separating a front chamber of the pre-chamber from a back chamber of the pre-chamber; anda second tubular portion of the tubular ring extends extending axially from a tip of the center electrode into the back chamber of the pre-chamber, andwhere the first mentioned tubular portion of the tubular ring extends into the front chamber of the pre-chamber, andwhere the first mentioned tubular portion comprises a velocity control shroud.
