Provided are methods and systems for fabricating multimaterial bodies in a layer-wise fashion, which bodies may be used bone-stabilizing implants. The multimaterial bodies include rigid and flexible portions that are integrally formed with one another. The multimaterial bodies may be softened or stiffened in specific areas to match the biological or anatomical features of a bone.

1. An implant for stabilizing a fracture in an underlying bone, the implant comprising: a first region comprising a first material configured to be attached to the underlying bone; anda second region comprising a second material that is different than the first material, the second region being disposed adjacent the first region, the second region having a flexibility different than that of the first region, the first and second regions being monolithic with one another, the first region comprising at least one aperture configured to receive an anchor configured to secure the implant to the underlying bone, andthe implant being configured for installation across a fracture in the underlying bone so as to provide stability to the underlying bone. 2. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first and second regions are structurally interlocked with one another. 3. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first and second regions are attached to one another by way of a transition region between the two regions, the transition region comprising a mixture of a material of the first region and a material of the second region. 4. The implant of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first region and the second region comprises a biocompatible material. 5. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first region comprises two or more materials. 6. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first region comprises two or more sub-regions. 7. The implant of claim 1, wherein the second region comprises two or more materials. 8. The implant of claim 1, wherein the second region comprises two or more sub-regions. 9. The implant of claim 1, wherein a surface of the implant defines one or more voids. 10. The implant of claim 1, wherein a surface of the implant comprises spikes adapted to secure into a bone. 11. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first region comprises two sub-regions disposed adjacent to the second region. 12. The implant of claim 1, wherein the second region is characterized as being encased within the first region. 13. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first region is characterized as being encased within the second region. 14. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first region and the second region comprise at least two different materials. 15. The implant of claim 14, wherein the first region at least partially comprises at least one of titanium, stainless steel, or aluminum, and the second region at least partially comprises at least one of a plastic and PEEK. 16. The implant of claim 1, wherein each of the first and second regions define a plurality of discrete layers. 17. The implant of claim 16, wherein each of the layers are individually laser-processed. 18. The implant of claim 16, wherein each of the layers are individually solidified powder layers. 19. The implant of claim 16, wherein the second region has a flexibility greater than that of the first region. 20. The implant of claim 1, wherein the implant is configured so as to extend along a surface of the bone in which the fracture is present. 21. The implant of claim 1, wherein the implant is configured such that the second region lies adjacent to the fracture when the implant is installed. 22. The implant of claim 1, wherein the first region comprises a metal and wherein the second region comprises a polymer. 23. The implant of claim 22, wherein the metal comprises steel, titanium, aluminum, or any combination thereof. 24. The implant of claim 22, wherein the polymer comprises PEEK, polyethylene, or any combination thereof. 25. An implant for stabilizing a fracture in an underlying bone, the implant comprising: a first region comprising a metal and the first region configured to be attached to the underlying bone; anda second region disposed adjacent the first region, the second region comprising a polymer and having a flexibility different than that of the first region, the first and second regions being monolithic with one another, the implant comprising a transition region between the two regions, the transition region comprising a mixture of the metal of the first region and the polymer of the second region, the first region comprising at least one aperture configured to receive an anchor configured to secure the implant to the underlying bone, andthe implant being configured for installation across a fracture in the underlying bone so as to provide stability to the underlying bone. 26. The implant of claim 25, wherein the implant is configured such that the second region lies adjacent to the fracture when installed. 27. The implant of claim 25, wherein the metal comprises steel, titanium, aluminum, or any combination thereof. 28. The implant of claim 25, wherein the polymer comprises PEEK, polyethylene, or any combination thereof. 29. The implant of claim 25, wherein the implant is configured so as to extend along a surface of the bone in which the fracture is present.
