The instrument of claim 1, wherein the power source of the charger base comprises at least one battery. 4. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the at least one chargeable DC power source of the power pack comprises at least one rechargeable battery. 5. The surgical instrument of claim 4, wherein the at least one battery is replaceable. 6. The surgical instrument of claim 5, wherein the at least one rechargeable battery is removable from the power pack. 7. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the at least one chargeable DC power source of the power pack comprises at least one charge-accumulating device. 8. The instrument of claim 7, wherein the at least one charge-accumulating device comprises at least one supercapacitor. 9. The surgical instrument of claim 7, wherein the at least one charge-accumulating device comprises a plurality of series-connected charge-accumulating devices. 10. The surgical instrument of claim 9, wherein the plurality of series-connected charge-accumulating devices comprises a plurality of series-connected supercapacitors. 11. The surgical instrument of claim 9, wherein the power pack comprises a charge management circuit connected to the plurality of series-connected charge-accumulating devices for determining a charge level of the plurality of series-connected charge-accumulating devices. 12. The surgical instrument of claim 1, wherein the power pack memory further is for storing RFID values for components of the instrument, and wherein the power pack further comprises a RFID transponder for reading the RFID values.
