A system for monitoring ingestion of medicine (21) comprises forming a digestible radio frequency identification (RFID) tag (10). The RFID tag is attached to the medicine. The RFID tag and medicine are ingested. A signal from the RFID tag is monitored.

The method of claim 1, further comprising: transmitting a first signal from the monitoring device to a server indicative of the continued-existence or non-existence of the medicinal material;detecting a permanent RFID tag embedded under the skin of the animal;transmitting a second signal to the server indicative of the detection of the permanent RFID tag; andassociating the first and second signals.
