The cart system of claim 1, wherein the housing of the second cart is a work platform having a work surface positioned above the at least one compartment of the second cart in a vertical direction. 3. The cart system of claim 1, wherein the at least one compartment of the first cart includes a plurality of compartments; and wherein the at least one compartment of the second cart includes a plurality of compartments. 4. The cart system of claim 1, wherein the first and second carts have a same height, and wherein the first footprint is the same as the second footprint. 5. The cart system of claim 1, wherein the two rolling members of the first cart entirely fit within the second area when the first and second carts are connected to each other. 6. The cart system of claim 1, wherein the linking structure further contains an actuator configured to rotate the cover plates so as to expose the cavities to the posts during joining of the first and second carts. 7. The cart system of claim 6, wherein the actuator comprises a foot pedal and a pivot rod, wherein the first locking mechanism comprises beams connected to the pivot rod and cover plates, and wherein when the foot pedal is depressed, the pivot rod is configured to rotate such that the beams are pulled toward a center of the base of the first cart, which causes the cover plates to rotate toward the center of the base of the first cart, thus exposing the cavities in the catches. 8. The cart system of claim 7, wherein, when the foot pedal is released, the pivot rod is configured to rotate back to a resting position, thereby pushing the beams away from the center of the base of the first cart, which rotates the cover plates to enclose the cavities. 9. The cart system of claim 1, further comprising a third cart; wherein the third cart includes a housing, at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the third cart, and a base having rolling members to permit movement of the third cart;wherein another linking structure that permits the first and third carts to be connected together for, joint movement is partially disposed on each of the first and third carts; andwherein the first cart is configured to nest with the third cart when the first and third carts are connected to each other such that the housing of the first cart runs alongside and parallel to the housing of the third cart. 10. The cart system of claim 9, wherein the first, second, and third carts have a same height, wherein the base of the third cart has a third footprint, and wherein the first, second, and third footprints are the same. 11. A cart system comprising: a first cart including: a housing,at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the first cart, anda base having rolling members to permit movement of the first cart; anda second cart including: a housing,at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the second cart, anda base having rolling members to permit movement of the second cart, wherein a linking structure that permits the first and second carts to be connected together for joint movement is partially disposed on each of the first and second carts, wherein the first cart is configured to nest with the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other such that a footprint of the connected first and second carts covers an area that is less than a sum of areas for the footprints for the bases of the first and second carts, wherein two rolling members of the first cart overlap with the footprint of the base of the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other, wherein two rolling members of the first cart and a portion of the base of the first cart fit under the base of the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other, wherein the linking structure comprises a first locking mechanism on the first cart having cover plates and catches forming cavities, and a second locking mechanism on the second cart having posts configured to be contained within the cavities. 12. The cart system of claim 11, wherein the two rolling members of the first cart entirely fit within the footprint of the base of the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other. 13. The cart system of claim 11, wherein the linking structure further contains an actuator configured to rotate the cover plates so as to expose the cavities to the posts during joining of the first and second carts. 14. The cart system of claim 11, further comprising a third cart; wherein the third cart includes a housing, at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the third cart, and a base having rolling members to permit movement of the third cart;wherein another linking structure that permits the first and third carts to be connected together for joint movement is partially disposed on each of the first and third carts; andwherein the first, second, and third carts have the same height, and the same footprint for their respective bases. 15. A cart system comprising: a first cart including: a housing,at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the first cart, anda base having rolling members to permit movement of the first cart; anda second cart including: a housing,at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the second cart, anda base having rolling members to permit movement of the second cart, wherein a linking structure that permits the first and second carts to be connected together for, joint movement is partially disposed on each of the first and second bases, wherein the first cart is configured to nest with the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other such that the bases of the first and second carts overlap each other in a nested configuration, wherein the first and second carts have a same footprint for their respective bases, andwherein two of the rolling members of the first cart fit under the base of the second can when the first and second carts are connected to each other, wherein the rolling members of the first cart are placed at corners of the base of the first cart which are outside of a footprint of the housing of the first cart, and wherein the rolling members of the second cart are placed at corners of the base of the second cart which are outside of a footprint of the housing of the second cart. 16. The cart system of claim 15, wherein the two rolling members of the first cart are disposed between two rolling members of the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other. 17. The cart system of claim 15, wherein the linking structure comprises a first locking mechanism on the base of the first cart having cover plates and catches forming cavities, and a second locking mechanism on the base of the second cart having posts configured to be contained within the cavities. 18. The cart system of claim 17, wherein the linking structure further contains an actuator configured to rotate the cover plates so as to expose the cavities to the posts during joining of the first and second carts. 19. A cart system comprising: a first cart including: a housing,at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the first cart, anda base having rolling members to permit movement of the first cart; anda second cart including: a housing,at least one compartment located between two side walls of the housing of the second cart, anda base having rolling members to permit movement of the second cart, wherein a linking structure that permits the first and second carts to be connected together for joint movement is partially disposed on each of the first and second carts, wherein the first cart is configured to nest with the second cart when the first and second carts are connected to each other such that the housing of the first cart runs alongside and parallel to the housing of the second cart, wherein the linking structure comprises a first locking mechanism on the first cart having cover plates and catches forming cavities, and a second locking mechanism on the second cart having posts configured to be contained within the cavities, wherein the linking structure further contains an actuator configured to rotate the cover plates so as to expose the cavities to the posts during joining of the first and second carts, wherein the actuator comprises a foot pedal and a pivot rod, wherein the first locking mechanism comprises beams connected to the pivot rod and cover plates, andwherein, when the foot pedal is depressed, the pivot rod is configured to rotate such that the beams are pulled toward a center of the base of the first cart, which causes the cover plates to rotate toward the center of the base of the first cart, thus exposing the cavities in the catches. 20. The cart system of claim 19, wherein, when the foot pedal is released, the pivot rod is configured to rotate back to a resting position, thereby pushing the beams away from the center of the base of the first cart, which rotates the cover plates to enclose the cavities.
