A surgical access device that includes a seal assembly. The seal assembly includes an upper housing portion having a first seal and a lower housing portion including a second seal. The upper housing portion is rotatably connectable to the lower housing portion. The surgical access device also includes a rotation prevention mechanism configured to prevent inadvertent relative rotation of, and disconnection of, the upper housing portion and the lower housing portion. The rotation prevention mechanism is further configured to be selectively actuated by a user, such that, when actuated, the upper housing portion is selectively rotatable relative to, and disconnectable from, the lower housing portion.

1. A surgical access device comprising: a sleeve defining a longitudinal axis and having an internal longitudinal passage, and proximal and distal ends, the sleeve dimensioned for passage through tissue;a seal assembly mountable adjacent the proximal end of the sleeve, the seal assembly including an upper housing having a seal and a lower housing distal of the upper housing and having a valve, the upper housing being releasably connectable to the lower housing;a first lock component depending radially outwardly from an outer peripheral surface of the lower housing, the first lock component configured to move in at least a longitudinal direction between a first position and a second position; anda second lock component depending radially outwardly from an outer peripheral surface of the upper housing, the second lock component dimensioned to be engageable with the first lock component when in the first position of the first lock component to prevent rotational movement of the upper housing in a first rotational direction relative to the lower housing, and dimensioned to release the first lock component when in the second position to permit rotational movement of the upper housing in the first rotational direction relative to the lower housing to thereby permit removal of the upper housing relative to the lower housing. 2. The surgical access device of claim 1, wherein the first component is integrally formed with the lower housing and the second component is integrally formed with the upper housing. 3. The surgical access device of claim 2, wherein the first component includes a finger mounted in pivotal relation with respect to the outer peripheral surface of the lower housing, the finger configured to distally pivot from the first position to the second position. 4. The surgical access device of claim 3, wherein the finger is integrally formed with the outer peripheral surface of the lower housing. 5. The surgical access device of claim 4, wherein the finger includes a ramp located on an upper surface thereof. 6. The surgical access device of claim 5, wherein the second component includes a lock shelf, the lock shelf being engageable with the ramp of the finger when in the first position of the first lock component and being released relative to the ramp of the finger when in the second position of the first lock component. 7. The surgical access device of claim 6, wherein the lock shelf is integrally formed with the outer peripheral surface of the upper housing. 8. The surgical access device of claim 7, wherein the first lock component is normally biased toward the first position. 9. The surgical access device of claim 8, wherein, as the upper housing of the seal assembly is rotated in a second rotational direction, the lock shelf traverses the ramp of the finger and exerts a force on the finger sufficient to cause the finger to move toward the second position of the first lock component whereby, upon clearing the ramp, the first lock component returns to the first position, thereby preventing the upper housing from rotating in the first direction. 10. The surgical access device of claim 3, wherein the finger of the first lock component is dimensioned to be manually engaged by the user. 11. The surgical access device of claim 3, wherein the finger is monolithically formed with the outer peripheral surface of the lower housing. 12. The surgical access device of claim 3, wherein the upper and lower housing components include a bayonet coupling dimensioned to permit mounting and release of the upper housing to the lower housing when in a first relative rotational orientation, and to secure the upper and lower housing components when in a second relative rotational orientation. 13. A surgical access device, which comprises: an access member defining a longitudinal axis and having an internal longitudinal passage, and proximal and distal ends, the access member dimensioned for passage through tissue;a lower housing mounted adjacent the access member; an upper housing releasably mountable to the lower housing and having a seal dimensioned to establish a seal about an object introduced within the longitudinal passage, the upper housing and the lower housing configured for relative rotational movement between a first relative rotational position to permit mounting and release of the upper housing relative to the lower housing and a second relative rotational orientation to facilitate securing of the upper housing relative to the lower housing;a manually actuable first lock component depending radially outwardly from one of the lower housing and the upper housing, the first lock component adapted to move in at least a longitudinal direction between a lock position and an unlocked position; anda second lock component associated with the other of the lower housing and the upper housing, the second lock component dimensioned to be engaged by the first lock component when in the lock position of the first lock component to retain the lower housing and the upper housing in the second relative rotational orientation, and dimensioned to release the first lock component when in the unlocked position to permit the lower housing and the upper housing to move to the first relative rotational position. 14. The surgical access device according to claim 13, wherein the first lock component is configured and dimensioned to extend from an outer peripheral surface of the lower housing, and is configured to distally pivot from the lock position to the unlocked position. 15. The surgical access device according to claim 14, wherein the first lock component is monolithically formed with the outer peripheral surface of the lower housing. 16. The surgical access device according to claim 15, wherein the first lock component is normally biased toward the lock position. 17. The surgical access device according to claim 16, wherein the second lock component is configured and dimensioned to extend from an outer peripheral surface of the upper housing. 18. The surgical access device according to claim 17, wherein the second lock component is monolithically formed with the outer peripheral surface of the upper housing. 19. The surgical access device according to claim 18, wherein the first lock component includes a ramp and the second lock component includes a lock shelf, the lock shelf being engageable with the ramp when in the lock position of the first lock component and being released relative to the ramp when in the unlocked position of the first lock component. 20. The surgical access device according to claim 19, wherein one of the lower housing and the upper housing including at least one mounting tongue and the other of the lower housing and the upper housing including a mounting recess, the at least one mounting tongue and the at least one mounting recess being aligned when in the first relative rotational orientation and being misaligned when in the second relative rotational orientation. 21. The surgical access device according to claim 12, wherein the lower housing includes a zero closure valve.
