The architectural covering includes: shade material; the shade material operatively connected to a motor unit such that movement of the motor unit causes movement of the shade material; the motor unit comprising a DC motor and a shaft connected to the DC motor; a power supply unit electrically connected to the motor unit; a controller unit electrically connected to the motor unit, the controller unit having a microprocessor; and a rotation detector configured to detect rotation of the motor unit and upon detection of rotation of the motor unit transmit a signal to the microprocessor, wherein the microprocessor of the controller unit is configured to power an encoder unit in response to determination of manual movement of the shade material. The architectural covering of claim 1, further comprising a bottom bar connected to the shade material wherein displacement on the bottom bar causes an electrical disturbance in the DC motor which is transmitted to the rotation detector. 4. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein rotation detector includes a sensor. 5. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the rotation detector includes an accelerometer. 6. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the encoder unit is a Hall Effect detector that comprises a Hall Effect magnet wheel and at least one Hall Effect sensor. 7. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein DC motor includes a Hall Effect magnet wheel coupled to the shaft connected to the DC motor. 8. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein DC motor includes a Hall Effect magnet wheel coupled to the shaft connected to the DC motor wherein the Hall Effect magnet wheel is a multi-pole magnetic wheel. 9. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the encoder unit includes at least one Hall Effect sensor mounted on a printed circuit board adjacent to a Hall Effect magnet wheel connected to the shaft of the DC motor. 10. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the rotation detector includes one or more transistors that are connected to a positive lead and/or a negative lead of the DC motor to detect rotation of the DC motor. 11. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the rotation detector is formed of a transistor connected to a positive lead of the DC motor and a transistor connected to a negative lead of the DC motor to detect rotation and direction of the DC motor. 12. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the power supply unit is powered by at least one battery. 13. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the DC motor has a rated voltage and the power supply unit supplies power at approximately half or less than the rated voltage of the DC motor. 14. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the microprocessor is configured to: transmit a first command to the motor unit in response to one tug; andtransmit a second command to the motor unit in response to determination of two tugs within the predetermined time period, the second command being different from the first command. 15. The architectural covering of claim 1, wherein the encoder unit is configured to output pulses when the output shaft connected to the DC motor is rotating, and the microprocessor is configured to count the number of pulses output from the rotation detector. 16. The architectural covering of claim 1, further comprising a wireless receiver electronically coupled to the microprocessor, the wireless receiver configured to receive wireless signals from a remote control, process the wireless signal and convert the encoder unit from the asleep state to the awake state upon reception of an appropriate wireless signal. 17. A motor and control unit for an architectural covering, comprising: a motor unit;the motor unit comprising a DC motor and a shaft connected to the DC motor;a magnetic device connected to the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the magnetic device;a controller unit electrically connected to the motor unit, the controller unit having a microprocessor;a power supply unit electrically connected to the motor unit and the controller unit;a rotation detector electrically connected to the microprocessor;at least one Hall Effect sensor positioned adjacent to the magnetic device, the at least one Hall Effect sensor electrically connected to the microprocessor;the microprocessor of the controller unit configured to switch between an awake state wherein the microprocessor energizes the at least one Hall Effect sensor, and an asleep state wherein the microprocessor does not energize the at least one Hall Effect sensor;wherein when energized, the at least one Hall Effect sensor detects rotation of the shaft. 18. The motor and control unit of claim 17, wherein the microprocessor energizes the at least one Hall Effect sensor in response to a manual movement of shade material of the architectural covering. 19. The motor and control unit of claim 17, wherein the microprocessor energizes the at least one Hall Effect sensor in response to a wireless control signal received by the controller unit. 20. The motor and control unit of claim 17, wherein the DC motor has a rated voltage and the power supply unit supplies power at approximately half or less than the rated voltage of the DC motor. 21. The motor and control unit of claim 17, wherein the rotation detector includes a transistor connected to a positive lead or negative lead of the DC motor. 22. An architectural covering comprising: shade material;a motor operatively connected to the shade material,a controller unit operatively connected to the motor;the controller unit having a microprocessor, a rotation detector and an encoder unit; anda power supply unit operatively connected to the motor and the controller unit,wherein the rotation detector is configured to detect a change in voltage caused by a manual movement of the shade material and transmit a signal to the microprocessor, andwherein the microprocessor is configured to supply power to the encoder unit in response to detection of movement by the shade material by the rotation detector and the encoder unit is configured to track movement of the motor when in powered awake state. 23. The architectural covering of claim 22, wherein the rotation detector includes at least one transistor connected to a positive lead or a negative lead of the motor. 24. The architectural covering of claim 23, wherein the encoder unit includes at least one Hall Effect Sensor positioned adjacent a magnetic wheel that rotates with rotation of the motor. 25. The architectural covering of claim 23, wherein the microprocessor is configured to cut power and place the architectural covering in an asleep state after a predetermined amount of time without rotation.
