The disclosed embodiments include a system, computer program product, and method for modifying communications of a communications network. For example, in one embodiment, a computer implemented method for modifying communications of a communications network comprises receiving performance information packets that includes network performance information associated with the communications network, and transmitting a command to a specified access point based on the network performance information. In certain embodiments, the command instructs the specified access point to perform at least one of reconfiguring itself based on a particular set of configuration parameters, restarting itself, running diagnostic routines, increasing buffered data, refreshing a routing table, modifying a routing table, terminating a particular process or processes, and terminating all operations.
1. A computer implemented method for modifying communications of a communications network, the method comprising: receiving, at one end point of a path through the communication network, performance information packets that includes network performance information associated with the communications
1. A computer implemented method for modifying communications of a communications network, the method comprising: receiving, at one end point of a path through the communication network, performance information packets that includes network performance information associated with the communications network, wherein the performance information packets are generated by a plurality of nodes along the path through the communications network, and wherein at least some of the performance information packets include data about signal to noise ratio, interference levels, and signal strength associated with a specified access point, the specified access point being a wireless access point providing wireless connectivity with the communication network; andtransmitting a command to the specified access point based on the network performance information, the command causing a change in operation of the specified access point, wherein the command instructs the specified access point to provide network performance information, and wherein the specified access point was previously a pass-through node from which network performance information was not obtained. 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising changing a frequency at which performance information packets are communicated through the communications network for obtaining additional network performance information based on the network performance information. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance information packets request information from the specified access point. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to restart itself. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to restart itself based on a particular set of configuration parameters. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to run diagnostic routines. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to increase the buffer data. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to modify a routing table. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to terminate a particular process. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to change a priority level associated with a particular process. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to terminate operations. 12. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions for modifying communications of a communications network, the computer executable instructions when executed causes one or more machines to perform operations comprising: receiving, at one end point of a path through the communication network, performance information packets that includes network performance information associated with the communications network, wherein the performance information packets are generated by a plurality of nodes along the path through the communications network, and wherein at least some of the performance information packets include data about signal to noise ratio, interference levels, and signal strength associated with a specified access point, the specified access point being a wireless access point providing wireless connectivity with the communication network; andtransmitting a command to the specified access point based on the network performance information the command causing a change in wireless operation of the specified access point, wherein the command instructs the specified access point to provide network performance information, and wherein the specified access point was previously a pass-through node from which network performance information was not obtained. 13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12, further comprising computer executable instructions that when executed causes the one or more machines to adjust a frequency at which performance information packets are communicated through the communications network for obtaining additional network performance information based on the network performance information. 14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to restart itself. 15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to reconfigure itself based on a particular set of configuration parameters. 16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to run diagnostic routines. 17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12, wherein the command further instructs the specified access point to refresh a routing table. 18. A system, comprising: at least one processor; andat least one memory coupled to the at least one processor and storing instructions that when executed by the at least one processor performs operations comprising: receiving, at one end point of a path through the communication network, performance information packets that includes network performance information associated with a communications network, wherein the performance information packets are generated by a plurality of nodes along the path through the communications network, and wherein at least some of the performance information packets include data about signal to noise ratio, interference levels, and signal strength associated with a specified access point, the specified access point being a wireless access point providing wireless connectivity with the communication network; andtransmitting a command to the specified access point based on the network performance information the command causing a change in wireless operation of the wireless access point, wherein the command instructs the specified access point to provide network performance information, and wherein the specified access point was previously a pass-through node from which network performance information was not obtained. 19. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting a command to a specified access point comprises transmitting a command within a performance information packet.
