The invention provides for a retainer for stabilizing a threaded member. The retainer may include a base portion having an opening and an outer perimeter lying in a first plane, the opening having a plurality of elongated sections each extending toward the outer perimeter so as to define in the base portion one or more arms. Each of the aims may have a head section having at least one groove, the head sections being located in a second plane which is parallel to and spaced apart from the first plane. The elongated sections may be symmetrically arranged about an axis. The grooves may be arranged to define at least a portion of a helix. The outer perimeter of the retainer may be circular.

1. A retainer comprising: a first base portion having a bottom surface in a first plane; anda plurality of fingers extending outwardly and upwardly from the first base portion and above the first plane, the plurality of fingers together defining a second base portion, and each one of the plurality of fingers having a deformable tip portion, wherein each one of the deformable tip portions includes at least one thread ridge that is configured to mate with a corresponding thread on a threaded shank, the threaded shank being elongate along a shank axis, wherein each deformable tip portion of a select one of the plurality of fingers is separated from an adjacent deformable tip portion of an adjacent one of the plurality of fingers, the deformable tip portions being disposed in a second plane located above the first plane and above the second base portion, and the deformable tip portions together defining an aperture, wherein the at least one thread ridge deflects away from the aperture when the retainer is pushed over the threaded shank in a direction that is both parallel to the shank axis and directed from the second plane toward the first plane;wherein the at least one thread ridge deflects toward the aperture when the retainer is tightened by rotationally turning the retainer over the threaded shank about the shank axis. 2. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the fingers is tapered in the direction extending from the second base portion to the deformable tip section. 3. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein fingers are not inclined and permit the retainer to be pushed over the threaded shank. 4. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein fingers are wedge shaped. 5. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein fingers are separated by slots. 6. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein the thread ridges are arranged to define at least a portion of a helix. 7. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein the perimeter of the base portion is substantially circular. 8. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein the retainer comprises a polymeric material. 9. The retainer according to claim 1, wherein the retainer is made of plastic. 10. The retainer of claim 1, wherein the aperture has a diameter substantially that of the diameter of the threaded shank. 11. The retainer of claim 1, wherein the bottom surface is substantially smooth. 12. A retainer comprising: a base portion defined by a first plane, the base portion having an outer perimeter and a centrally disposed opening defining a location adjacent a center of the retainer; anda plurality of independently movable elongated sections forming a plurality of fingers, the plurality of fingers extending inwardly along a direction extending from the outer perimeter towards the center of the retainer, wherein each of the plurality of fingers is separated from an adjacent one of the plurality of fingers;wherein each of the plurality of fingers has a gripping section having at least one thread ridge located in a second plane, the thread ridge being configured to mate with a corresponding thread on a threaded shank; andwherein the second plane is parallel to the first plane. 13. The retainer according to claim 12, further comprising a plurality of nibs disposed about a perimeter of the base portion. 14. The retainer according to claim 12, wherein the plurality of fingers are symmetrically arranged about a central axis. 15. The retainer of claim 12, wherein the retainer is formed of plastic. 16. The assembly of claim 12, wherein the base portion comprises a substantially smooth bottom surface. 17. The assembly of claim 12, wherein at least one of the plurality of flexible fingers is tapered in the direction extending from the base portion to the gripping section. 18. A method for securing a bolt to a floor ring, comprising: inserting the bolt through a slot in the floor ring, the bolt comprising a head and a threaded shank, the threaded shank being elongate along a shank axis;sliding a retainer over the bolt, wherein the retainer includes a base portion generally disposed in a first plane and defining an outer perimeter, the base portion further including a centrally disposed opening defining a location adjacent a center of the retainer, the base portion generally defining a bottom surface and top surface spaced from the bottom surface along a first direction;pushing the retainer over the threaded shank along a second direction that is opposite the first direction to thereby deflect a plurality of elongated fingers away from the bolt, the elongated fingers extending out of the base portion upwardly from the top surface along the first direction and inwardly from the outer perimeter toward the center of the retainer;rotationally turning the retainer about the shank axis relative to the bolt so as to advance the retainer along the second direction and tighten the retainer over the bolt by urging at least one thread ridge, carried by a gripping section of each one of the plurality of elongated fingers, inwardly toward the bolt so as to hold the bolt against the gripping section, the thread ridge being located in a second plane that is parallel to and spaced from the first plane along the first direction; anddiscontinuing the rotationally turning step after contacting a top surface of the floor ring with the bottom surface of the retainer. 19. The method of claim 18 further wherein the rotationally turning step is performed after the pushing step. 20. The method of claim 18 wherein the rotationally turning step further comprises generating an inwardly directed force between the thread ridge and the bolt. 21. The method of claim 18 wherein the rotationally turning step is performed by hand, and wherein the base further includes a gripping feature.
