The dental composition of claim 3 wherein further comprising a secondary reducing agent selected from tertiary amines; aromatic sulfinic salts; thioureas; and mixtures thereof. 5. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein the redox initiator further comprises an oxidizing agent selected from persulfuric acid and salts thereof; peroxides, transition metals, perboric acid and salts thereof, permanganic acid and salts thereof, perphosphoric acid and salts thereof, and mixtures thereof. 6. The dental composition of claim 1 comprising more than one oxidizing agent and/or more than one reducing agent. 7. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein the initiator system further comprises a transition metal accelerant. 8. The dental composition of claim 1 further comprising a photoinitiator. 9. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein the polymerizable resin portion of the dental composition described herein comprises at least 0.5 wt. % of addition-fragmentation agent. 10. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein Z comprises a vinyl, vinyloxy, (meth)acryloxy, (meth)acrylamido, styrenic and acetylenic functional groups. 11. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein Z is selected from: wherein R4 is H or C1-C4 alkyl. 12. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein Q is selected from —O—, —S—, —NR4—, —SO2—, —PO2—, —CO—, —OCO—, —R6—, —NR4—CO— NR4—, NR4—CO—O—, NR4—CO—NR4—CO—O—R6—, —CO—NR4—R6—, —R6—CO—O—R6—, —O—R6—. —S—R6—-, —NR4—R6—, —SO2—R6—, —PO2—R6—, —CO—R6—, —OCO—R6—,—NR4—CO—R6—, NR4—R6—CO—O—, and NR4—CO—NR4—, wherein each R4 is hydrogen, a C1 to C4 alkyl group, or aryl group, each R6 is an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a 5- or 6-membered cycloalkylene group having 5 to 10 carbon atoms, or a divalent arylene group having 6 to 16 carbon atoms, with the proviso that Q-Z does not contain peroxidic linkages. 13. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein Q is an alkylene of the formula —CrH2r—, where r is 1 to 10. 14. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein Q is a hydroxyl-substituted alkylene of the formula —CH2—CH(OH)—CH2—. 15. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein Q is an aryloxy-substituted alkylene or an alkoxy-substituted alkylene. 16. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein the multifunctional monomer is an isocyanurate monomer, a tricyclodecane monomer, or a mixture thereof. 17. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein the dental composition comprises at least one (meth)acrylate monomer selected from ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate (BisEMA6), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), bisphenol A diglycidyl dimethacrylate (bisGMA), urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), triethlyene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), glycerol dimethacrylate (GDMA), ethylenegylcol dimethacrylate, neopentylglycol dimethacrylate (NPGDMA), polyethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (PEGDMMA), and mixtures thereof. 18. The dental composition of claim 1 wherein the composition further comprises at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer with acid functionality. 19. The dental composition of claim 18 wherein the acid functionality comprises carboxylic acid functionality, phosphoric acid functionality, phosphonic acid functionality, sulfonic acid functionality, or combinations thereof. 20. The dental composition of claim 18 wherein the dental resin comprises at least 1 wt-%, of ethylenically unsaturated compounds with acid functionality, based on the total weight of the unfilled composition. 21. The dental composition of claim 1 further comprising a filler. 22. The dental composition of claim 21 wherein the filler comprises radiopaque fillers. 23. The dental composition of claim 21 comprising filler in an amount of at least 1 wt-%, based on the total weight of the composition.
