A portable water treatment system includes at least one sub-system to treat water including a flocculation system, a chlorination system, and a bio-sand filter system. The water treatment system may include multiple sub-systems for treating water that feed into one another. The sand filter system may include a mini bio-sand filter, a foam filter, or a pressed block filter. The flocculation system may include a tank bottom that urges settling particles toward a sump and a ladle that removes settled particles. A manual pump or siphon may be included in the water treatment system.

1. A gravity fed water treatment system comprising: a flocculation system including a flocculation system inlet for receiving water and a flocculation system outlet for dispensing flocculant-treated water, the flocculation system including a flocculation tank for use with a flocculant agent for encouraging coagulation and settling of particles suspended in the water in the flocculation tank;a foam filter system having a foam filter system inlet for receiving water and a foam filter system outlet for dispensing foam filtered water, the foam filter system including a foam filter element for filtering microbes and particles out of the water having a biological layer located on the foam filter element, the foam filter system having a restriction orifice for restricting water through the foam filter element to control a flow rate and face velocity of water;a chlorination system including a chlorinator inlet for receiving water, a chlorine source that provides a disinfecting level of chlorine operatively connected to the chlorination system, a chlorination chamber for use with the chlorine source for disinfecting the water, and a chlorinator outlet for dispensing chlorinated water;a carbon filter system having a carbon filter system inlet for receiving chlorinated water and a carbon filter system outlet for dispensing carbon filtered water, the carbon filter system having an activated carbon filter for removing chlorine from the chlorinated water; anda water treatment system outlet for dispensing treated water that has passed through the flocculation system, the foam filter system, the chlorinated system, and the carbon filter system. 2. The water treatment system of claim 1, wherein the foam filter system includes an additional foam filter. 3. The water treatment system of claim 2 wherein the foam filter elements are radial flow filters. 4. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the foam filter system includes a layer of sand located between the foam filter element and the foam filter system inlet. 5. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the foam filter system includes a pre-filter media covering the foam filter element. 6. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the foam has a porosity of approximately 100 pores per inch. 7. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the chlorination system oxidizes arsenic in the untreated water. 8. The water treatment system of claim 7 wherein the chlorination system oxidizes the arsenic in the untreated water from a +3 state to a +5 state. 9. The water treatment system of claim 8 whereby arsenic in the +5 state is removed by the activated carbon filter more effectively than arsenic in the +3 state. 10. The water treatment system of claim 1, wherein the chlorination chamber is transparent allowing a user to see how much of a chlorine source is left without accessing the chlorination system. 11. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the chlorination system is releasably mounted adjacent the carbon filter system outlet. 12. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the carbon filter system includes an additional activated carbon filter in parallel with the activated carbon filter. 13. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the activated carbon is approximately 80% to 90% filter media by weight and 10% to 20% polymer binder by weight. 14. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the flocculation system outlet is mounted in a wall of the tank at a level above the expected depth of sediment to accumulate during a settling period of the flocculation. 15. The water treatment system of claim 14 including a valve on the flocculation system outlet to control the dispensing of flocculant-treated water. 16. The water treatment system of claim 1 including a safe water storage container for storing the treated water. 17. The water treatment system of claim 1 including a manual pump installed on the water treatment system outlet to increase the flow rate of water drawn through the water treatment system outlet. 18. The gravity fed water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the flocculation agent includes one or more of alum and poly aluminum chloride. 19. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the chlorination system includes at least one diffuser to provide even mixing of the chlorinated water. 20. The water treatment system of claim 1 wherein the flocculation system and the chlorination system are provided in separate containers.
