In various forms the joint assembly includes a first annular race in the first portion and a second annular race in the second portion. A surgical stapling device, comprising: an elongate shaft assembly having a distal end and defining a longitudinal tool axis;an articulation joint; andan end effector, wherein the end effector is configured to be articulated relative to the elongate shaft assembly in directions transverse to the longitudinal tool axis by way of the articulation joint, the end effector comprising: an elongate channel assembly including a portion configured to operably support a surgical staple cartridge therein; andan anvil movably supported relative to the elongate channel assembly, wherein the surgical stapling device further comprises a rotary joint coupling the elongate channel assembly to the articulation joint to facilitate selective rotation of the elongate channel assembly about the longitudinal tool axis relative to the articulation joint;wherein the rotary joint comprises: a first annular race groove in one of the elongate shaft assembly and the elongate channel assembly;a second annular race groove in the other one of the elongate channel assembly and the elongate shaft assembly and being configured for substantial registration with the first annular race groove; anda ring-like bearing comprising a pair of spaced ring-like bearing surfaces and including a pair of free ends such that at least one of the free ends is completely housed within the first and second annular race grooves to rotatably affix the elongate shaft assembly and the elongate channel assembly together. 2. The surgical stapling device of claim 1 wherein the elongate channel assembly comprises a cylindrically-shaped connector portion and wherein the distal end of the elongate shaft assembly comprises a socket portion sized to rotatably receive the cylindrically-shaped connector portion therein and wherein the first annular race groove is formed in the perimeter of the cylindrically-shaped connector portion and the second annular race groove is formed in an inner wall of the socket portion. 3. The surgical stapling device of claim 2 wherein the socket portion includes a window therein communicating with the second annular race groove and wherein the at least one of the free ends is insertable through the window into the registered first and second annular race grooves. 4. The surgical stapling device of claim 3 wherein the window includes a tapered surface portion communicating with the second annular race groove. 5. The surgical stapling device of claim 1, wherein the elongate shaft assembly operably supports a drive shaft assembly therein and wherein the articulation joint comprises: a proximal socket formed in the distal end of the elongate shaft assembly;a proximal ball member movably seated within the proximal socket and including a proximal passage for operably receiving the drive shaft assembly therethrough;an intermediate articulation tube defining an intermediate socket;an end effector connector tube including an end effector ball protruding therefrom to be rotatably supported within the intermediate socket, the end effector ball including an end effector passage for operably receiving the drive shaft assembly therethrough, the end effector connector tube including a distal socket portion wherein the second annular race groove is formed in an inner wall of the distal socket portion; anda substantially-cylindrically shaped connector portion on the end effector, wherein the first annular race groove is formed in a perimeter thereof, the connector portion sized to be rotatably received within the distal socket portion such that the first annular race groove and the second annular race groove are in substantial registration to receive the ring-like bearing therein. 6. The surgical stapling device of claim 3 wherein an end of the ring-like bearing protrudes out through the window to enable the ring-like bearing to be withdrawn from the registered first and second annular race grooves to enable the connector portion to be detached from the socket portion. 7. The surgical stapling device of claim 1 wherein the elongate shaft assembly is operably couplable to a robotic system for applying control motions to the end effector. 8. The surgical stapling device of claim 1 wherein the elongate shaft assembly is operably coupled to a handle assembly configured to generate control motions for operating the end effector. 9. The surgical stapling device of claim 1 wherein the rotary joint facilitates selective 360 degree rotation of the end effector about the longitudinal tool axis relative to the articulation joint. 10. The surgical stapling device of claim 1, further comprising at least one articulation member operably interfacing with said rotary joint for applying at least one articulation motion thereto. 11. The surgical stapling device of claim 10, wherein said at least one articulation member comprises four articulation cables. 12. The surgical stapling device of claim 5, further comprising at least one articulation member attached to said end effector ball for applying articulation motions thereto. 13. The surgical stapling device of claim 1, wherein the surgical stapling device further comprises a drive shaft assembly that operably extends through said elongate shaft assembly and said rotary joint to operably interface with a firing member in said end effector. 14. The surgical stapling device of claim 3, wherein said ring-like bearing comprises a plastic deformable, substantially circular ring. 15. The surgical stapling device of claim 1, wherein said first and second annular race grooves are rotatably interlocked by said ring-like bearing. 16. The surgical stapling device of claim 1, wherein said rotary joint interfaces with an annular portion of said elongate channel assembly and wherein said anvil is movably coupled to said annular portion of said elongate channel assembly. 17. A surgical stapling device, comprising: a shaft assembly defining a longitudinal axis;an end effector operably coupled to said shaft assembly, the end effector comprising: a staple cartridge;an anvil;a first jaw; anda second jaw moveable relative to said first jaw;an articulation joint, wherein said end effector is articulatable relative to said shaft assembly in directions transverse to the longitudinal axis by way of said articulation joint; anda rotary joint operably coupling said end effector to said shaft assembly to facilitate selective rotation of said end effector about the longitudinal axis relative to said articulation joint, wherein said rotary joint comprises: a first annular race groove in one of said end effector and said shaft assembly;a second annular race groove in the other one of said end effector and said shaft assembly and being configured for substantial registration with said first annular race groove; anda ring-like bearing comprising a pair of spaced ring-like bearing surfaces and including a pair of free ends such that at least one of said free ends is completely housed within said first and second annular race grooves to rotatably couple said end effector and said shaft assembly together. 18. A surgical instrument, comprising: a shaft assembly defining a longitudinal axis;an end effector operably coupled to said shaft assembly, said end effector comprising: a first jaw; anda second jaw moveable relative to said first jaw;an articulation joint, wherein said end effector is configured to be articulated relative to said shaft assembly in directions transverse to the longitudinal axis by way of said articulation joint; anda rotation joint operably coupling said end effector to said shaft assembly to facilitate selective 360 degree rotation of said end effector about the longitudinal axis relative to said articulation joint, wherein said rotation joint comprises: a first annular race groove in one of said end effector and said shaft assembly;a second annular race groove in the other one of said end effector and said shaft assembly and being configured for substantial registration with said first annular race groove; anda ring-like bearing comprising a pair of spaced ring-like bearing surfaces and including a pair of free ends such that at least one of said free ends is completely housed within said first and second annular race grooves to rotatably couple said end effector and said shaft assembly together.
