A float sled comprising a body with a substantially flat upper surface, a lift plate operationally associated with the body and adapted to move from a first position in proximity to the upper surface of the body to a second position above the first position and above the body, a set of pneumatic air bag lifts associated with the lift plate to raise and lower the lift plate to various horizontal orientations with differing degrees of tilt, and an air bearing adapted to raise the body above the ground.

1. A float sled comprising: a. a body having an upper surface;b. a lift plate operatively associated with the body and adapted to move from a first position in proximity to the upper surface of the body to a second position above the first position; andc. an air bearing adapted to raise the body above the ground. 2. The float sled of claim 1, further comprising a frame configured to provide structural support to the body, the frame having a hollow channel operatively associated with the air bearing, the frame providing a first path through the hollow channel to supply compressed gas to the air bearing. 3. The float sled of claim 2, further comprising an arm operatively associated with the frame, the arm having a hollow channel operatively associated with the hollow channel of the frame, the arm providing a second path through the hollow channel of the arm to supply compressed gas to the first path of the frame. 4. The float sled of claim 1, further comprising a controller configured to control the operation of the air bearing. 5. The float sled of claim 4, further comprising an arm operatively associated with the body, the controller positioned on the arm. 6. The float sled of claim 1, further comprising a lift configured to move the lift plate from the first position to the second position. 7. The float sled of claim 6, further comprising a plurality of lifts operatively associated with the lift plate, each lift being configured to raise at least a portion of the lift plate upon actuation of said lift. 8. The float sled of claim 7, wherein the actuation of at least one of the lifts can be controlled independently from the actuation of one or more of the other lifts. 9. The float sled of claim 7, further comprising a controller that controls the actuation of the plurality of lifts. 10. The float sled of claim 9, wherein the controller selectively controls the actuation of one or more of the plurality of lifts. 11. The float sled of claim 6, wherein the lift is at least in part pneumatic. 12. The float sled of claim 11, further comprising a frame configured to provide structural support to the body, the frame having a hollow channel operatively associated with the lift, the frame providing a first path through the hollow channel to supply compressed gas to the lift. 13. The float sled of claim 12, further comprising a pneumatic line positioned at least in part within the hollow channel of the frame, the pneumatic line supplying at least a portion of the compressed gas to the lift. 14. The float sled of claim 6, wherein the lift is at least in part hydraulic. 15. The float sled of claim 14, further comprising a frame configured to provide structural support to the body, the frame having a hollow channel operatively associated with the lift, the frame providing a first path through the hollow channel to supply hydraulic fluid to the lift. 16. The float sled of claim 1, wherein the lift plate comprises an upper surface having a configuration that at least in part complements at least a portion of an underside of a load or a load container to be moved by the sled. 17. The float sled of claim 16, wherein the upper surface of the lift plate is substantially flat. 18. A float sled comprising: a. a body with an upper surface;b. an air bearing configured to raise the body above the ground;c. a lift plate operatively associated with the body and having an upper surface; andd. a lift operatively associated with the lift plate and configured to move the lift plate from a first position in proximity to the upper surface of the body to a second position above the first position;wherein the lift is configured to raise the lift plate to an angular orientation above the upper surface of the body such that the upper surface of the lift plate corresponds to an angular orientation of an underside of a load to be moved by the sled. 19. The float sled of claim 18, wherein the lift is at least in part pneumatic. 20. The float sled of claim 18, wherein the lift comprises an air bag. 21. The float sled of claim 18, further comprising a plurality of lifts operatively associated with the lift plate, each lift being configured to raise at least a portion of the lift plate upon actuation of said lift. 22. The float sled of claim 21, wherein the actuation of at least one of said plurality of lifts can be controlled independently from the actuation of one or more of the other of said plurality of lifts. 23. The float sled of claim 18, wherein the lift plate comprises an upper surface having a configuration that at least in part complements at least a portion of an underside of a load or a load container to be moved by the sled. 24. The float sled of claim 23, wherein the upper surface of the lift plate is substantially flat.
