This invention concerns a device for the transmission of impulse and momentum, e.g. from a shock wave from an explosion or momentum from objects impacting the device, from one location to another, and is primarily used to protect vehicles, ships, aircrafts and buildings against impulse and/or momentum, for instance in regards to attacks on those with grenades, bombs, mines and the like. The governing physical principles are those of conservation of momentum and energy, and Newton's 3rd Law, claiming that for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. When the receiver 1 is accelerated by the incoming shock wave 9 it collides with the transmitter 2, connected to an emitter 3, momentum is transferred to the emitter 3. If the transfer is in itself not sufficient to bring the receiver's 1 velocity to an acceptable level, additional energy and momentum is added through the transmitter 2.

A device according to claim 1 in which the receiver is attached to an object to be protected from damage by the shock wave. 3. A device according to claim 1 in which the receiver is integrated into an object to be protected from damage by the shock wave. 4. A device according to claim 1 in which the receiver is V-shaped so as to deflect at least some impulse and momentum of the shock wave approaching the first region. 5. A device according to claim 1 in which the receiver comprises material having a sonic velocity of at least 6000 meters per second. 6. A device according to claim 1 in which the receiver comprises material selected from the group consisting of armor steel, ceramics, and aramid fibers. 7. A device according to claim 1 in which the transmitter comprises at least one rod or fluid-filled tube. 8. A device according to claim 1 in which the transmitter defines first and second ends and comprises an energetic material positioned within or adjacent at least one of the first and second ends and either ignitable or detonatable. 9. A device according to claim 1 in which the transmitter defines first and second ends and comprises at least one armature, rail, or coil positioned within or adjacent at least one of the first and second ends. 10. A device according to claim 8 further comprising at least one percussion cap configured to be struck by the receiver so as to release the energetic material. 11. A device according to claim 8 further comprising a sensor configured to send a signal so as to release the energetic material. 12. A device according to claim 11 in which the sensor is selected from the group consisting of radars, pressure transducers, and thermocouples. 13. A device according to claim 1 in which the mass configured for ejection comprises gas, fluid, powder, or granules. 14. A device according to claim 1 in which the mass configured for ejection comprises resin mixed with powder or granules. 15. A device according to claim 1 further comprising a container of a disintegrating material in which the mass configured for ejection is positioned. 16. A device according to claim 1 in which the mass configured for ejection is launched through the transmitter. 17. A device according to claim 1 in which the mass configured for ejection comprises gas released through the transmitter as supersonic flow.
