A multi-media interactive play system has a number of play elements situated in a variety of play environments or play media. The play elements are linked to a common record of participant performance, progress, character attributes, etc. The participant's performance in the play elements determines the play elements to which the participant may proceed as well as the play parameters of the play element in which the participant is currently involved. The play elements are thus interlinked to define a sequence or path network along which the participant advances. By advancing through the play elements the participant carries out a plot, story, theme, etc. that attaches a significance to the successful completion of a given play element or elements. Also disclosed in a variety of play elements suitable for use in the system, an example of a plot or theme that may be carried out by the system, and a send/receive radio frequency network that may be used to track play participants in a play center.

The method of claim 1 wherein said physical play environment comprises one or more of a play structure, a theme park, a retail store, or an entertainment facility. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said first game comprises a questing game wherein said participant moves from location to location within said physical play environment attempting to solve various problems, challenges, or puzzles presented by said first plurality of play elements. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said portable RF toy is configured to represent a person, character, or object relevant to said first game. 5. The method of claim 4 wherein said portable RF toy further comprising read/write memory configured to store game-relevant information. 6. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing a camera within said physical play environment and configuring said camera to automatically capture one or more digital images of said participant playing said first game. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said first selection of information and said second selection of information each comprise one or more of the following: tasks completed, points accumulated, levels achieved, game character attributes, or game character inventory. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said unique identifier comprises one or more of the following: participant identity, identification number, unique key, login name, or login password. 9. A method for providing an interactive play experience carried out in both physical and computer-simulated play environments, said method comprising: configuring a first host computer to conduct a live-action interactive game carried out within a physical play environment wherein a machine-readable identifier is used to track the locations or movements of individual game participants within said physical play environment;configuring said first host computer to generate a first selection of game progress information for each corresponding game participant in accordance with said live-action interactive game;configuring a second host computer to conduct a video game or computer game carried out within a computer-simulated play environment;configuring said second host computer to generate a second selection of game progress information for each corresponding game participant in accordance with said video game or computer game;providing an internet-accessible data storage system in communication with said first host computer and said second host computer;configuring said data storage system to receive, via a wireless network, said first selection of game progress information from said first host computer and said second selection of game progress information from said second host computer; andfurther configuring said data storage system to create or update an overall progress record for each corresponding game participant based at least in part on said first selection of game progress information, said second selection of game progress information, and a third selection of information uniquely identifying each corresponding game participant. 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said physical play environment comprises one or more of a play structure, a theme park, or an entertainment facility. 11. The method of claim 9 wherein said machine-readable identifier comprises a radiofrequency (RF) identification device configured to be carried or worn by each corresponding game participant, and further comprising providing a plurality of RF transceivers within said physical play environment and configuring said plurality of RF transceivers to wirelessly communicate with said RF identification device. 12. The method of claim 11 wherein said RF identification device comprises a physical toy configured to enable individual game participants to interact with said physical play environment by moving said physical toy to produce a corresponding effect in accordance with said live-action interactive game. 13. The method of claim 9 further comprising providing a camera within said physical play environment, and configuring said camera to automatically capture one or more digital images of one or more individual game participants. 14. The method of claim 9 wherein said first selection of game progress information and said second selection of game progress information each comprise one or more of the following: tasks completed, points accumulated, levels achieved, game character attributes, or game character inventory. 15. The method of claim 9 wherein said third selection of information comprises one or more of the following: a game participant identity, an identification number corresponding to said machine-readable identifier, or a login name and password combination. 16. A method for conducting an interactive game that combines both live-action gaming and video- or computer-gaming, said method comprising: providing a participant in said interactive game with a portable radiofrequency (RF) gaming device configured to wirelessly communicate with one or more RF-compatible devices, said RF gaming device comprising a wirelessly-ascertainable identifier that uniquely identifies said RF gaming device in an interactive game;providing a first plurality of play elements within a physical play environment;configuring said first plurality of play elements to enable said participant to play a live-action game by selectively moving or positioning said RF gaming device within said physical play environment;providing a plurality of RF transceivers within said physical play environment;configuring said plurality of RF transceivers to wirelessly ascertain said wirelessly-ascertainable identifier when said RF gaming device is within a wireless communication range thereof, and wherein said wireless communication range is less than 40 feet;providing a computer tracking system in communication with said plurality of RF transceivers;configuring said computer tracking system to track the progress or performance of said participant in said live-action game using said wirelessly-ascertainable identifier;providing a second plurality of play elements within a computer-simulated play environment provided by an RF-compatible gaming platform;configuring said RF-compatible gaming platform to: (i) wirelessly ascertain said wirelessly-ascertainable identifier, and (ii) enable said participant to access and play a video- or computer-game on said RF-compatible gaming platform;providing a data storage system in communication with said computer tracking system and said RF-compatible gaming platform; andconfiguring said data storage system to receive a first selection of information relevant to said live-action game, a second selection of information relevant to said video- or computer-game, and to create or update an overall game progress record for said participant based at least in part on said first selection of information, said second selection of information, and said wirelessly-ascertainable identifier. 17.
