The infusion pump system of claim 2, further comprising a user interface in electrical communication with the central controller, wherein the user interface comprises a cooling input, and wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with cooling by causing the motor driven pump to pump the fluid while the thermal element is on in response to selection of the cooling input. 5. The infusion pump system of claim 1, wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with heating according to a default mode of the central controller. 6. The infusion pump system of claim 5, further comprising a user interface in electrical communication with the central controller, wherein the user interface comprises a heating input, and wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid without heating by causing the motor driven pump to pump the fluid while the thermal element is off in response to selection of the heating input. 7. The infusion pump system of claim 6, wherein the user interface further comprises a cooling input, and wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with cooling by causing the motor driven pump to pump the fluid while the thermal element is on in respond to selection of the cooling input. 8. The infusion pump system of claim 1, wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with cooling according to a default mode of the central controller. 9. The infusion pump system of claim 8, further comprising a user interface in electrical communication with the central controller, wherein the user interface comprises a cooling input, and wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid without cooling by causing the motor driven pump to pump the fluid while the thermal element is off in response to selection of the cooling input. 10. The infusion pump system of claim 9, wherein the user interface further comprises a heating input, and wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with heating by causing the motor driven pump to pump the fluid while the thermal element is on in respond to selection of the heating input. 11. The infusion pump system of claim 1, wherein the at least one thermal element comprises a heating element configured to heat the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the heating element is on. 12. The infusion pump system of claim 1, wherein the at least one thermal element comprises a cooling element configured to cool the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the cooling element is on. 13. The infusion pump system of claim 1, wherein the at least one thermal element comprises a heating element configured to heat the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the heating element is on, and a cooling element configured to cool the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the cooling element is on. 14. The infusion pump system of claim 1, wherein the at least one thermal element comprises a heating and cooling element configured to heat the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the heating and cooling element operates in a heating mode, and to cool the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the heating and cooling element operates in a cooling mode. 15. A method of delivering a fluid to a patient, the method comprising: providing an infusion pump system comprising: an infusion tubing for delivering the fluid;a heat exchanger cartridge in fluid communication with the infusion tubing and removably coupled to at least one thermal element for heating or cooling the fluid;a motor driven pump in mechanical communication with the infusion tubing; anda central controller in electrical communication with the motor driven pump and the at least one thermal element; anddelivering, via the central controller, the fluid to the patient without heating or cooling the fluid by causing the motor driven pump to pump the fluid through the infusion tubing and the heat exchanger cartridge while the thermal element is off. 17. The method of claim 16, wherein delivering the fluid to the patient without heating or cooling the fluid comprises delivering the fluid according to a default mode of the central controller. 18. The method of claim 16, wherein the infusion pump system further comprises a user interface in electrical communication with the central controller, wherein the user interface comprises a heating input, wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with heating according to a default mode of the central controller, and wherein delivering the fluid to the patient without heating or cooling the fluid comprises selecting the heating input. 19. The method of claim 16, wherein the infusion pump system further comprises a user interface in electrical communication with the central controller, wherein the user interface comprises a cooling input, wherein the central controller is configured to deliver the fluid with cooling according to a default mode of the central controller, and wherein delivering the fluid to the patient without heating or cooling the fluid comprises selecting the cooling input. 20. The method of claim 16, wherein the at least one thermal element comprises a heating and cooling element configured to heat the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the heating and cooling element operates in a heating mode, and to cool the fluid in the heat exchanger cartridge when the heating and cooling element operates in a cooling mode.
