A spacer for use in spacing a cladding component from a building component has a support member, a base spaced apart from the support member, the base having a contact surface facing away from the support member, a web connected between the support member and the base, and a guide configured to locate the cladding component on the support member. A plurality of the spacers can be used by resiliently deforming them to accommodate and retain by restorative bias force a corresponding plurality of portions of the cladding component. Thereafter, the spacers are secured to the building component.

An assembly for spacing a cladding component from a building component to provide a cavity for insulative material, the assembly comprising: a cladding component;a building component; anda plurality of spacers, each one of the spacers comprising: a support member for supporting the cladding component;a base spaced apart from the support member, the base having a contact surface facing away from the support member and positioned to contact the building component;a web connected to and extending between the support member and the base, the web comprising a pair of spaced apart walls, each wall of the pair of walls extending between the support member and the base, the web having a fastener path extending therethrough, with the fastener path being positioned between the pair of walls; anda guide having a flange projecting away from the base structured to receive the cladding component therein, the guide being positioned proximate the support member to position the cladding component for securement to the support member and the base by a fastener inserted through the fastener path, the guide being deformable to accommodate and retain by restorative bias force the cladding component;wherein each one of the plurality of spacers comprises a thermally insulative material; the cladding component being secured to the building component via fasteners extending through the fastener paths of the plurality of spacers, at least one of the fasteners extending between the support member and the base member of a corresponding one of the plurality of spacers, to space the cladding component away from the building component to provide a cavity for insulative material, the cavity being substantially continuous between the cladding component and the building component. 2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein each one of the plurality of spacers comprises a fibre reinforced polymer. 3. The assembly of claim 2 wherein each one of the plurality of spacers comprises fibreglass. 4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the support member, base, web and guide of each one of the plurality of spacers are features of a pultruded profile section. 5. The assembly of claim 4 wherein the support member of each one of the plurality of spacers is elongate, and wherein the guide of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers provides a stop parallel to one of the long sides of the support member. 6. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the flange of each one of the plurality of spacers is configured to retain the cladding component against the support member of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers. 7. The assembly of claim 6 wherein at least a portion of the flange of each one of the plurality of spacers is resiliently displaceable away from the support member of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers. 8. The assembly of claim 7 wherein the resiliently displaceable portion of the flange is resiliently displaceable away from the support member of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers in a direction generally normal to the support member. 9. The assembly of claim 8 wherein the guide of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers comprises a flexure bearing connected to the flange, the flexure bearing allowing the resiliently displaceable portion of the flange to be resiliently displaced away from the support member. 10. The assembly of claim 9 wherein the guide comprises a U-shaped flexural member adjacent to the support member, the U-shaped flexural member comprising the flange and the flexure bearing. 11. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the support member flange of each one of the plurality of spacers comprises an aperture defined through it. 12. The assembly of claim 11 wherein the guide of each one of the plurality of spacers is configured to locate the cladding component over the aperture defined through the support member of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers. 13. The assembly of claim 12 wherein the base of each one of the plurality of spacers has an aperture defined through it, and when the contact surface of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers abuts the building component, the apertures defined in the base and the support member of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers are aligned with the fastener path of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers and the fastener path extends normal to the building component. 14. The spacer of claim 1 wherein each wall of the pair of walls of each one of the plurality of spacers extends between the support member and the base of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers in a direction generally normal to the contact surface of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers. 15. A spacer for use in spacing a cladding component from a building component, the spacer comprising: a support member for supporting a cladding member;a base spaced apart from the support member, the base having a contact surface facing away from the support member and positioned to contact a building component;a web connected to and extending between the support member and the base, the web comprising a pair of spaced apart walls, each wall of the pair of walls extending between the support member and the base, the web having a fastener path extending therethrough, with the fastener path being positioned between the pair of walls; anda guide having a flange projecting away from the base structured to receive a cladding component therein, the guide being positioned proximate the support member to position the cladding member for securement to the support member and the base by a fastener inserted through the fastener path, the flange being configured to retain the cladding component against the support member, the flange having a portion that is resiliently displaceable away from the support member and comprises a projection, the guide comprising a recess opposite the projection;wherein the spacer comprises a thermally insulative material. 16. A method for spacing a cladding component away from a building component to provide a cavity for insulative material, the method comprising: providing a plurality of spacers comprising a thermally insulative material, each one of the spacers comprising a web extending between a support member and a base member of the spacer, the web comprising a pair of spaced apart walls, each wall of the pair of walls extending between the support member and the base;deforming a portion of a guide provided on the support member of each one of the plurality of spacers to accommodate and retain by restorative bias force a corresponding plurality of portions of the cladding component; andsecuring the cladding component and associated spacers to the building component via fasteners positioned through the cladding component and the spacers and between the pair of walls, at least one of the fasteners extending between the support member and the base member, to space the cladding component away from the building component to provide a cavity for insulative material, the cavity being substantially continuous between the cladding component and the building component. 17. The method of claim 16 further comprising registering apertures defined through the spacers with corresponding apertures defined through the cladding component. 18. The method of claim 17 wherein securing the spacers to the building component comprises inserting fasteners through registered apertures of the spacers and cladding component. 19. An assembly for use in spacing a building component and a cladding component to provide a cavity for insulative material, the assembly comprising: a cladding component;a building component; anda plurality of spacers, each one of the spacers having: a support member for a supporting the cladding component;a base spaced apart from the support member, the base having a contact surface facing away from the support member and positioned to contact the building component, anda web connected to and extending between the support member and the base, the web comprising a pair of spaced apart walls, each wall of the pair of walls extending between the support member and the base, the web having a fastener path extending therethrough, with the fastener path being positioned between the pair of walls; anda plurality of guides, each one of the plurality of guides being positioned adjacent the support member of a corresponding one of the plurality of spacers, each one of the guides having a flange projecting away from the base structured to receive the cladding component relative to the spacer and to secure the cladding component to the building component via the fastener path, each one of the guides being deformable to accommodate and retain by restorative bias force the cladding component;wherein the support member, base and web and are features of a pultruded profile section, and wherein the support member, base and web comprise a thermally insulative material, the cladding component being secured to the building component via fasteners extending through the fastener paths of each one of the plurality of spacers, at least one of the fasteners extending between the support member and the base member of a corresponding one of the plurality of spacers, to space the cladding component away from the building component to provide a cavity for insulative material, the cavity being substantially continuous between the cladding component and the building component. 20. The assembly of claim 19 wherein the support member of each one of the plurality of spacers is elongate, and wherein the guide of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers provides a stop perpendicular to one of the long sides of the support member. 21. The assembly of claim 20 wherein the guide of each one of the plurality of spacers comprises a body generally parallel to the support member, and the flange of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers is spaced apart from the body. 22. The assembly of claim 21 wherein the flange of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers comprises a tab extending from the body and folded over the body along a fold perpendicular to one of the long sides of the support member of the corresponding one of the plurality of spacers.
