1. A method for use in a system in a vehicle, the system including a processor and a display element, the display element configured to display video content, the method comprising: receiving a signal actuating an automatic parking routine stored in a memory of the system;detecting the positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle;displaying the positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle on the display element;computing coordinates defining a potential parking space;determining whether it is feasible for the automatic parking routine to park the vehicle in the potential parking space;displaying the potential parking space on the display element;receiving a user input defining the potential parking space;if it is determined that it is feasible for the automatic parking routine to park the vehicle in the potential parking space, controlling one or more components of the vehicle to park the vehicle in the potential parking space;displaying an animated graphic display depicting an animated representation wherein the vehicle moves into an animated representation of the potential parking space that has been defined by the user, wherein the animated graphic display is displayed prior to controlling the one or more components of the vehicle to park the vehicle in the potential parking space;receiving a signal actuating an automatic unparking routine stored in a memory of the system; andthe processor controlling the one or more components of the vehicle to direct the vehicle out of the parking space. 2. The method of claim 1 additionally comprising periodically detecting the current positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle while the vehicle is in motion and displaying the current positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle on the display element. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the one or more components include the steering system. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining whether it is feasible for the automatic parking routine to park the vehicle in the potential parking space comprises performing a computer simulation comprising determining parameters for controlling components of the vehicle in order to park the vehicle in the potential parking space. 5. The method of claim 4, additionally comprising displaying the animated representation of the computer simulation on the display element. 6. The method of claim 1 additionally comprising the system instructing the user to exit the vehicle after receiving the user input selecting the parking space. 7. The method of claim 6 additionally comprising performing a security check on a signal received from a transmitter, and denying access to vehicle control unless the security check determines the transmitter has a security authorization. 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the system instructing the user to exit the vehicle comprises displaying a video message instructing the user to exit the vehicle. 9. A method for use in a system in a vehicle, the system including a processor and a display element, the display element comprising a touch screen and being configured to display video content, the method comprising: receiving a signal actuating an automatic parking routine stored in a memory of the system;detecting the positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle;displaying the positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle on the display element;computing coordinates defining a potential parking space;displaying the potential parking space on the display element;receiving a user input defining the potential parking space, receiving the user input defining the potential parking space comprising the touch screen of the display element detecting a user touch in a part of the screen showing a location relative to the vehicle;determining whether it is feasible for the automatic parking routine to park the vehicle in the potential parking space; andif it is determined that it is feasible for the automatic parking routine to park the vehicle in the potential parking space, controlling one or more components of the vehicle to park the vehicle in the potential parking space. 10. The method of claim 9, additionally comprising detecting the positions of surrounding objects relative to the vehicle while the vehicle is in motion. 11. The method of claim 9, wherein a designated parking space is stored in a system memory, and the user input defines the designated parking space as the proposed parking space. 12. The method of claim 9 additionally comprising receiving a signal actuating an automatic unparking routine stored in a memory of the system and controlling the one or more components of the vehicle to direct the vehicle out of the parking space. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the processor controls the one or more components of the vehicle to direct the vehicle out of the parking space. 14. The method of claim 9 additionally comprising displaying a video message instructing the user to exit the vehicle after the parking space has been defined. 15. A method for use in a system in a vehicle, the system comprising a processor configured to control components of the vehicle, the method comprising: operating the vehicle in a user-operated mode, wherein components are configured to be directly controlled by a user within the vehicle while the vehicle is in the user-operated mode;determining that the vehicle has come to a complete stop;receiving a signal from a transmitter outside and remote from the vehicle to actuate an automatic parking routine;showing a potential parking space on a display;receiving an input selecting the parking space, receiving the input comprising a user touching the display to define the parking space in which the vehicle is to be parked;devising a scheme for controlling components of the vehicle so as to move the vehicle into a parking space; andcontrolling components of the vehicle to park the vehicle in the parking space according to the scheme. 16. The method of claim 15, wherein a designated parking space is stored in a system memory, and the input selects the designated parking space. 17. The method of claim 15, wherein a designated parking space and a predetermined location are stored in a system memory, and the input selects the designated parking space when the automatic parking routine is actuated when the vehicle is at the predetermined location. 18. The method of claim 17 additionally comprising receiving a second signal from a transmitter outside and remote from the vehicle while the vehicle is in the designated parking space, and in response to the second signal the processor controlling components of the vehicle to direct the vehicle out of the designated parking space and to the predetermined location. 19. The method of claim 17 additionally comprising storing in the system memory the control of components used in moving the vehicle between the predetermined location and the designated parking space, the designated parking space being inside a garage, the predetermined location being outside of the garage, receiving a second signal from a transmitter outside and remote from the vehicle while the vehicle is in the designated parking space that is inside a garage, and in response to the second signal the processor controlling components of the vehicle to direct the vehicle out of the designated parking space and out of the garage to the predetermined location using the control of components that is stored in the system memory. 20. The method of claim 17, wherein the designated parking space is located inside of a garage, and the predetermined location is located outside of the garage. 21.
