A biosensor insertion kit, comprising: a sensor body having a first section and a second section, the second section having a planar surface, a bottom edge and opposing side edges, the first section extending distally from the bottom edge of the second section and configured for transcutaneous placement in fluid contact with an analyte of a user for a predetermined time period, the second section including a retention segment extending transversely from the planar surface and proximate a side edge of the second section and formed by at least a portion of the second section of the sensor body, the second section configured for positioning above a skin layer so as not to contact the analyte when the first section is in contact with the analyte; andan introducer having a sensor guide channel, the introducer configured to frictionally engage with the retention segment of the sensor body during insertion of the first section of the sensor body, wherein the retention segment of the sensor body is located along the side edge in the sensor guide channel prior to transcutaneous placement of the first section of the sensor. 2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the introducer includes a tip portion configured to substantially retain at least a portion of the sensor body. 3. The kit of claim 2, wherein the tip portion of the introducer is configured to pierce through the skin layer. 4. The kit of claim 1, wherein the sensor body includes an analyte sensor. 5. The kit of claim 4, wherein the analyte sensor is a glucose sensor. 6. The kit of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of retention segments along the side edge of the second section of the sensor body. 7. The kit of claim 1, wherein the retention segment comprises an angular protrusion. 8. The kit of claim 1, wherein the introducer comprises opposing guide channels to receive the opposing side edges of the sensor body. 9. The kit of claim 8, wherein the retention segment of the sensor body frictionally engages the opposing guide channels of the introducer. 10. The kit of claim 1, wherein the first section has a narrow structure which extends along an axis of the side edge of the second section opposite the side edge at which the retention segment is positioned. 11. The kit of claim 10, wherein the sensor guide channel of the introducer is configured to retain the side edge of the sensor body where the retention segment is disposed, and a different sensor guide channel of the introducer is configured to retain the side edge of the sensor body including the narrow structure. 12. The kit of claim 1, wherein the sensor guide channel includes a folded metal channel. 13. The kit of claim 12, wherein the folded metal channel forms a U-like shape. 14. The kit of claim 1, wherein the retention segment provides an amount of frictional force to engage with the introducer and retain the sensor body in position prior to the insertion, wherein the amount of frictional force does not impede a disengagement of the introducer and a removal of the introducer after the insertion. 15. The kit of claim 6, wherein the plurality of retention segments provides an amount of frictional force to engage with the introducer and retain the sensor body in position prior to insertion, wherein the amount of frictional force does not impede a disengagement of the introducer and a removal of the introducer after the insertion.
