An orthopedic device comprises a hip plate, a first strut defining an anatomical curvature between first and second ends, and a second strut having a first end slidably received by the hip plate. A hinge couples the first and second struts to one another at the first end of the first strut and the second end of the second strut, and is arranged to provide adjustable abduction ranging from a plurality of angles. A thigh cuff connects to the second end of the first strut.
1. An orthopedic device, comprising: a hip plate and a cover, a space defined between the hip plate and the cover;a first strut having first and second ends and defining an anatomical curvature between the first and second ends;a second strut having first and second ends, the first end of the second
1. An orthopedic device, comprising: a hip plate and a cover, a space defined between the hip plate and the cover;a first strut having first and second ends and defining an anatomical curvature between the first and second ends;a second strut having first and second ends, the first end of the second strut being received within the space and slidable therewith;a hinge coupling the first and second struts to one another at the first end of the first strut, and the second end of the second strut;a thigh cuff connecting to the second end of the first strut;wherein the anatomical curvature is arranged to bias the hip plate and thigh cuff inwardly. 2. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the first strut is substantially longer than the second strut. 3. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the hinge is proximate the hip plate. 4. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the second strut is substantially flat and straight relative to the anatomical curvature of the first strut. 5. The orthopedic device of claim 1, further comprising an intermediate shell located generally within an apex of the anatomical curvature. 6. The orthopedic device of claim 5, wherein the intermediate shell includes a sleeve along which the first strut slidingly engages with a close-fitting relationship and slidably arranged along a length of the first strut between the hinge and the thigh cuff. 7. The orthopedic device of claim 5, wherein the intermediate shell includes flexible portions located on opposed sides thereof with rib portions having greater rigidity from and delimiting the flexible portions for permitting selective flexure of the flexible portions. 8. The orthopedic device of claim 7, wherein the rib portions have an arcuate profile and the sleeve is located between the rib portions such that the intermediate shell only flexes according to the location of the flexible portions. 9. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the cover has a plurality of locations for receiving motion stops, the motion stops delimit slidable motion of the first end of the second strut and combine with the second strut to form a floating hinge. 10. The orthopedic device of claim 9, wherein the second strut includes a sliding stop located proximate the first end and within the case of the hip plate, the sliding stop arranged to maintain the second strut within the case. 11. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the hinge is arranged to provide adjustable abduction ranging from a plurality of angles. 12. The orthopedic device of claim 11, wherein the hinge permits adjustable abduction ranging from at least at 0-30 degrees with indications at least at 0, 10, 20 and 30 degrees. 13. The orthopedic device of claim 11, wherein the hinge includes first and second parts rotating about a pivot point, and the first part defining a plurality of holes corresponding to the plurality of angles, and the second part defining a plurality of holes corresponding to the plurality of angles, a fastener is arranged to engage the first and second parts at the one of the plurality holes according to a desired angular setting of the hinge. 14. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the hip plate and the thigh cuff each include a strap secured thereto. 15. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the thigh cuff defines a plurality of living hinges proximate on opposed sides of the second end of the first strut secured thereto, the first strut telescopingly secured to the thigh cuff. 16. An orthopedic device, comprising: a first strut having first and second ends;a second strut having first and second ends;a hinge coupling the first and second struts to one another at the first end of the first strut and the second end of the second strut;wherein the hinge is arranged to provide adjustable abduction ranging from a plurality of angles, the hinge including first and second parts rotating about a pivot point, the first part defining a plurality of holes corresponding to a plurality of angles, and the second part defining a plurality of holes corresponding to a plurality of angles, a fastener is arranged to engage the first and second parts at the one of the plurality holes according to a desired angular setting of the hinge;wherein each of the first and second struts have a length between the first and second ends, a width, and a thickness, the width being greater than the thickness, such that the width of the first and second struts is parallel to a pivot point of the hinge. 17. The orthopedic device of claim 16, wherein the hinge permits adjustable abduction ranging from at least at 0-30 degrees with indications at least at 0, 10, 20 and 30 degrees. 18. The orthopedic device of claim 16, further comprising: a hip plate connected to the first end of the second strut at a first end portion of the orthopedic device;a thigh cuff connected to the second end of the first strut at a second end portion of the orthopedic device;wherein the first and second struts and the hinge are arranged so the hip plate and thigh cuff are directed inwardly in generally a same direction. 19. A method for adjusting abduction ranging from a plurality of angles in an orthopedic device including a first strut having first and second ends, a second strut having first and second ends, and a hinge coupling the first and second struts to one another at the first end of the first strut and the second end of the second strut, the method comprising: arranging first and second parts of the hinge rotating about a pivot point at preselected holes corresponding to an abduction angle;securing a fastener is arranged to the preselected hole of the first and second parts at the according to a desired angular setting of the hinge;wherein each of the first and second struts have a length between the first and second ends, a width, and a thickness, the width being greater than the thickness, such that the width of the first and second struts is parallel to a pivot point of the hinge. 20. The method of claim 19, wherein the hinge permits adjustable abduction ranging from at least at 0-30 degrees with indications at least at 0, 10, 20 and 30 degrees.
