The system and method determine a type of data having one or more parameters, attributes, or values of the data from at least a portion of a data block; select one or more data compression algorithms from among the one or more data compression algorithms based upon the determined type of data and a throughput of a communications channel; and perform data compression with the selected one or more data compression algorithms on at least the portion of the data block.

A system for compressing data, comprising: a plurality of data compression algorithms, at least one data compression algorithm from among the plurality of data compression algorithms utilizing an asymmetric data compression; anda processor, coupled to the plurality of data compression algorithms, configured: to determine a type of data comprising one or more parameters, attributes, or values of the data from at least a portion of a data block, containing either video or audio data;to select one or more data compression algorithms from among the plurality of data compression algorithms based upon the determined type of data and a throughput of a communications channel; andto perform data compression with the selected one or more data compression algorithms on at least the portion of the data block. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the throughput of the communications channel comprises: an actual throughput of the communications channel. 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the throughput of the communications channel comprises: an estimated throughput of the communications channel. 4. The system of claim 1, wherein the throughput of the communications channel comprises: an anticipated throughput of the communications channel. 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the throughput of the communications channel is known apriori. 6. The system of claim 1, wherein the determined one or more parameters, attributes, or values of the data are indicative of an image resolution. 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the determined one or more parameters, attributes, or values of the data are indicative of a bit rate. 8. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected one or more data compression algorithms utilize lossy data compression. 9. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected one or more data compression algorithms utilize lossless data compression. 10. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected one or more data compression algorithms utilize arithmetic data compression. 11. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected one or more data compression algorithms utilize Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG) 4 data compression. 12. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected one or more data compression algorithms utilize Advanced Audio Encoding (AAC) data compression. 13. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to determine the type of data and to perform the data compression in real time. 14. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to determine the type of data and to perform the data compression in real-time or substantially real-time. 15. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is not configured to determine the type of data and to perform the data compression in real-time or substantially real-time. 16. A method for compressing data utilizing a data compression algorithm from among a plurality of data compression algorithms, at least one of the plurality of data compression algorithms utilizing asymmetric data compression, the method comprising: determining a type of data comprising one or more parameters, attributes, or values of the data from at least a portion of a data block containing either video or audio data;selecting one or more data compression algorithms from among the plurality of data compression algorithms based upon the determined type of data and a throughput of a communications channel; andperforming data compression with the selected one or more data compression algorithms on at least the portion of the data block. 17. The method of claim 16, wherein the throughput of the communications channel comprises: an actual throughput of the communications channel. 18. The method of claim 16, wherein the throughput of the communications channel comprises: an estimated throughput of the communications channel. 19. The method of claim 16, wherein the throughput of the communications channel is an anticipated throughput of the communications channel. 20. The method of claim 16, wherein the throughput of the communications channel is known apriori. 21. The method of claim 16, wherein the determined one or more parameters, attributes, or values of the data are indicative of image resolution. 22.
